Spoilers are like apples, Roomies. Shake the tree, and you’ll get one to fall. And next week at the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the apples will fall like rain, so be prepared. Rather, help me prepare! Send your burning questions about any and all shows going to Comic-Con (and those that aren’t, if you’re so inclined), so I can come back with a basket of bounty to share with you all. We’ll make spoiler pie together! Also, this apple metaphor has gone on about five sentences too long. So I’m stopping now.

Send questions to spoilerroom@ew.com (note the two “r”s) or Tweet them to me @EWSandraG.

Also, this week, the “side dishes” are the main course. (Clearly hungry right now… ) Enjoy!

Sandra, I’m betting you’ve already drooled over these pics of gun-wielding Joe Manganiello on the set of White Collar, right? What else can you tell me about his role (and how much heavage we’ll be seeing)? — Maggie READ FULL STORY »

InsideTV Podcast: Aaron Paul previews 'Breaking Bad' premiere and discusses whether the show will end after season 5 ('It makes me really sad')

Television’s best show is here to rescue us from the doldrums of summer TV as Breaking Bad returns Sunday night on AMC. In honor of the occasion, Melissa Maerz and I did what any two jacked-up obsessive fans of the crystal meth drama would do: We kidnapped Emmy winning star Aaron Paul and forced him to deliver some dirt on the new season for the latest edition of the InsideTV Podcast! “If you like crazy and dark, you’re gonna love this season,” Paul promises. After giving us a taste of what’s in store for Jesse Pinkman, Paul also talks about creator’s Vince Gilligan’s recent comments that the show could end after season 5. “It makes me really sad,” says Paul about the possibility of the drama coming to a close, although there is something to be said for going out on top. “It makes sense to end it on a good note. It’s good to end with people wanting more.” Not that he wants that to happen. “I feel we could do 6 [seasons]. I don’t want it to end.” Speaking of finales, the rabid Lost fan also discusses his thoughts on the island drama’s final chapter and dissects a less celebrated role on his resume: that of “Wasted Guy” in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. 'Sons of Anarchy' creator slams Emmys over snub

Katey-Segal-Sutter

After Sons of Anarchy was overlooked in the major categories by the Television Academy today, the show’s always opinionated showrunner Kurt Sutter — who is married to Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal, frequently mentioned as a strong possible nominee – took to Twitter to fire back.

In a series of profane Tweets, Sutter mocked Emmy voters as out of touch:

“Best part of not getting an emmy nod. now i don’t have to pretend i give a s— about the profiteering d-bag academy. … because you know if we were nominated i’d be all humble and blowing smoke up their asses. now i can stay true to myself and just be a d—.”

And: “If my mom and dad were alive this emmy snub would kill them. that’s not true, they were too old to understand my show. just like the academy.”

Femme-Fatales

Ready for more powerful, sexy and dangerous women? (Would any man say no to that question?) Cinemax has ordered 13 more episodes of Femme Fatales, a late-night anthology series about (you guessed it) powerful, sexy and dangerous women. The first season is currently airing and features “13 stand-alone episodes find extraordinary ways of coping with their problems, channeling their survival instincts and bringing out their inner guile.” Ooh-kay!

The show is inspired by and styled in the tradition of pulp stories, film noir and graphic novels, and takes place in contemporary settings. The first season ends Aug. 5.

Tanit Phoenix will return as Lilith, the mysterious host of each episode, for season two that’ll bow in 2012. Guest stars for the next season will include Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill: Vol. 1), Antonio Sabato, Jr. (General Hospital), Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Jeff Fahey (Lost) and Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager). Time to check this show out?

Shark Tank is giving Mark Cuban a promotion.

The Dallas Mavs owner stole the show during a trio of guest appearances on the business-based reality series last season. Now ABC and executive producer Mark Burnett have signed on Cuban for nearly all of season 3.

Cuban will appear in 10 of the reality show’s 13 episodes, which means the rest of the sharks can expect to look forward to the young billionaire aggressively outbidding them. Shark Tank is expected to return to Friday nights in midseason.

'So You Think You Can Dance' host Cat Deeley talks first Emmy nomination -- and celebratory conga line?

“I know I should pretend to be a lot cooler than I am, but inside there’s a screaming teenage girl just dying to get out,” Cat Deeley tells EW. The feeling is mutual. The host of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance earned her first Emmy nomination after years of being snubbed (something fans – and EW – have been lamenting since the category was introduced in 2008). “‘Ohmygod, you’ve done it!’” she says her publicist told her on the phone this morning. “I’ve got a couple of friends staying with me at the moment, so everyone was there in pajamas with giant hair and slightly sleepy eyes but completely delighted and sharing in the glee of it all,” Deeley says. “It was a fun morning. Because I style myself for the show, I had to literally throw everything into a bag and then come to the show. It’s been very hectic, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else to celebrate it really.”

Having a show tonight — during which we’ll find out Season 8′s Top 10 dancers and their new all-star partners — does present one problem. READ FULL STORY »

2011 Emmy nominations: 10 burning questions answered

modern_family

This morning, as you might have heard, the 2011 Emmy nominations were announced. But after a perusal of the list of those lucky enough to score nods, we found ourselves with questions. Lots of ‘em, in fact! Such as: Is this the first time four actors – Modern Family‘s Ed O’Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, and Ty Burrell — from one show have been nominated in a single category? Why was PBS’ Downtown Abbey nominated in the Mini-Series category when a second season is in the works? And: Why is Cloris Leachman showing up in the Guest Actress category when she was in 20 of Raising Hope‘s 22 episodes last season? Well, we searched high and low — and enlisted knower of all things Emmy, the Television Academy’s SVP of Awards, John Leverence — to help us get to the bottom of 10 perplexing queries. Read on for all the details.

• With Modern Family actors taking four spots in the Supporting Actor in a Comedy category, is this the first time a category has been so dominated by one television show? No. In 1982, five actors from Hill Street Blues — winner Michael Conrad, Taurean Blacque, Charles Haid, Michael Warren, and Bruce Weitz — filled the category. [Ed. note: Thank you, commenters, for helping us catch our mistake with this answer initially!] The full-sweep feat is rare, but multiple nominations from one show in the same category happens every so often. It was common with Hill Street Blues. As for other examples, in 2004, three of the leads from Desperate Housewives – Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, and Felicity Huffman (sorry, Eva Longoria!) — all scored nods. (Huffman eventually took home the trophy, and she was the only other DH lady to be nominated again.) And back in the late ’80s, The Golden Girls had a similar embarrassment of riches: Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur, and Betty White were nominated together in 1986 (White won), 1987 (McClanahan won), 1988 (Arthur won), and 1989 (none of them won).

Don't expect Letterman to address second 'Late Show' break-in until Monday (if he does at all)

Categories: Late Night, Television

If you’re hoping for another funny Late Show take on the Ed Sullivan Theater being broken into for a second time, don’t. At least not until Monday. David Letterman taped both Thursday and Friday’s episodes earlier this week, a CBS spokesperson confirms to EW. The show and network declined to comment on the latest incident, which is said to have occurred at 1 a.m. Thursday. According to Reuters, 42-year-old aspiring musician Alvin Moore is accused of using a newspaper stand to break glass panes at the Ed Sullivan Theater, where Late Show films, for the attention — which he believes will help his music career. He did not gain access to the building, so the studio and set were not damaged. On Monday’s show, Letterman joked extensively about a 22-year-old man who allegedly broke into the theater Sunday morning while intoxicated. If attention is what Moore seeks, perhaps Letterman will stay mum.

Emmys: Buddies Josh Charles and Peter Dinklage already engaging in friendly trash talk?

The-Good-Wife_Charles

Tomorrow is the first day of shooting for season 3 of CBS’ The Good Wife, and what better way to welcome the cast back than with nine Emmy nominations — including nods for the series, actors Julianna Margulies, Josh Charles, Christine Baranski, Archie Panjabi, Alan Cumming, and guest star Michael J. Fox, as well as casting director Mark Saks and director of photography Fred Murphy? Charles, who’s celebrating his first-ever Emmy nom, returned to New York last night after two-and-a-half weeks out of the country. (“Obviously, when you’re walking around Jerusalem or in the Dead Sea or Masada, it’s not really necessarily the place where people are expecting to see someone that’s on a TV show they like,” he says, “so I always get a kick out of seeing people go through that process in their brain of figuring out if what they’re seeing is correct.”) Jet-lagged, all he was thinking about this morning was getting himself to the cast’s annual pre-season photo shoot on time.

“I was headed to get into the car to come to this photo shoot, and one of my best friends texted me. Just said, ‘Emmy.’ That was it. I was like, ‘Oh.’ It wasn’t super-exciting,” he laughs, wishing he had a better story. “And then I just got hit with a barrage of emails, texts, and calls from people. Honestly, one of the best parts of it is just seeing how happy it made a lot of my friends and family and my fellow actors. It’s a hard business and I’ve been in it a long time, and I feel like I have really good friendships with actors — people who I’ve worked with or people I’ve just been friends with over the years — and we all really have each other’s back. It felt good to have them all reach out and feel their happiness for me.” That includes his good friend Peter Dinklage, who also earned a supporting actor nomination for Game of Thrones. “I’ve been trading emails and texts with Peter, back and forth, and we’ve been ribbing one another and having some laughs. All of our friends are joking with us that we should fight it off,” Charles says. (Another memorable reaction: “One of my other best friends is in Greece for his brother’s wedding, and he said he was screaming and scared people on the beach,” Charles adds. “That made me laugh.”)  READ FULL STORY »

Sara Bareilles joins 'The Sing-Off' as celeb judge

Categories: Television

Sara Bareilles will show up on The Sing-Off this fall as a celebrity judge. The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter will join fellow celeb judges Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman on the panel when the show returns Sept. 19.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining the panel of judges for The Sing-Off this fall,” says Bareilles in a statement. “A cappella music is very near and dear to my heart, and I have been a huge fan of the show from the beginning. I love the opportunity to be a part of something that celebrates a genre of music that I just adore and believe in. I can’t wait for it to start.”

Bareilles, a three-time Grammy Award nominee, released her platinum selling major label debut “Little Voice” in 2007. The album’s first single “Love Song,” was a hit in 22 countries, including the Billboard Hot100. It garnered a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year before going multi-platinum.

Big muscles. Big swords. Big cod piece. Starz’ new Spartacus, Liam McIntyre, is taking to the sands and streets of Ancient Rome, and EW has your first look at the escaped rebel gladiator in action. Above and below we see McIntyre crossing swords with Centurions in two fight scene photos, and then standing there just looking badass in another. (Sparty basically looks like he’s saying: Hey, you, you want some of this? I mean the sword!) McIntyre will be at Comic-Con next week for the show’s panel. Emmys: Walton Goggins on Emmy nod for 'Justified' (not 'The Shield')

For fans of The Shield, today’s nomination for Walton Goggins probably felt ridiculously past due. The actor never got the attention he deserved for co-starring as Det. Shane Vendrell in the FX cop drama The Shield, but he was no less thrilled about today’s nod from the TV Academy for his portrayal of Boyd Crowder in the cabler’s Justified. The drama earned four nominations in all, including one for star Timothy Olyphant.

Emmy snubs: Here's our grouse list

Categories: Television
walking_dead

First the good news: Fan favorites like FX’s Justified, HBO’s Game of Thrones, and NBC’s Friday Night Lights got some TV Academy love alongside usual nomination hogs like AMC’s Mad Men and ABC’s Modern Family.

But then there’s this:

– AMC’s The Walking Dead. Remember? Took a B-movie topic and delivered a show that played like high art.

– Also: True Blood, again. We have to keep checking with HBO to make sure it’s eligible because we NEVER understand why this crowd pleaser — and superior actors like Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer — are ignored. It did get four nominations, for best craft services food or something (we’re kidding, but you get our resentment).

– Perhaps AMC’s The Killing should have been nominated for drama series. Better yet: How about we make the producers think they’re going to get nominated, then not reveal the list of nominations until next year? READ FULL STORY »
