'Falling Skies': Colin Cunningham talks about breakout turn as biker/baker baddie John Pope

There are many reasons to watch Falling Skies, TNT’s absorbing summertime sci-fi hit about ordinary folk-turned-warriors surviving – and rebelling against — a devastating alien invasion. Tops on the list: Noah Wyle’s strong central performance and the creepy mystery of the gooey harnesses making docile drones out of captive kids. (Spoiler Alert for anyone who hasn’t yet seen Sunday’s episode: How creepy was that alien-hosted slumber party with Ben and the other harness kids? Didn’t that hair-stroking beastie strike you as nurturing, even parental?) Alas, one of the most enjoyable elements of Falling Skies was (temporarily) MIA last night: Colin Cunningham’s charismatic John Pope, a tack-sharp, politically incorrect, dangerously amoral biker rogue skilled at killing Skitters and quoting literature. And the self-styled “culinary artist” – a bigoted foodie who blanches as paprika-seasoned chicken – can bake some seriously mean bread, too. John Pope — part heartless Road Warrior, part Gordon Ramsay gone totally psycho!

That was fast. CBS announced today that Dick Donato, aka Evel Dick, has left the Big Brother house. The show just premiered Thursday. ”Due to a personal matter, Big Brother houseguest Dick Donato had to leave the game unexpectedly on Thursday,” a CBS statement said. “His departure will be addressed on the episode to be broadcast on Wednesday, July 13.”

Donato went MIA not long after appearing in the premiere episode. Anyone who tuned into Big Brother: After Dark on Showtime late Thursday should have noticed that he was nowhere to be found. In the meantime, BB blogs began noting that he went into the Diary Room and never came out. His daughter Daniele (who entered the house with Evel Dick as a pair) began inquiring about his whereabouts while the other players simply thought it was a ruse. READ FULL STORY »

Some old lovers are returning to Salem. EW has confirmed that Patrick Muldoon (Austin Reed) and Christie Clark (Carrie Brady) will make their way back to the NBC sudser in September. Clark last appeared on Days in 2010, having worked on and off on the soap since the mid-80s. Muldoon left the show in 1995 to launch a TV (Melrose Place) and film (Starship Troopers) career.

They’ll go in front of the Days camera next week.

The return of Muldoon and Clark is just one many changes that Executive Producer Ken Corday is planning for the venerable soap. After hiring two new head writers to replace Dena Higley, Corday’s team has promised to return to more character-based storylines this fall. In addition, the show recently hired Freddie Smith (90210) to enter a same-sex relationship on the traditionally conservative show.

Ever since long-time fans of the Torchwood series learned major changes would take place within the series (most notably the show’s move to the United States from its native U.K.), expressions of worry and doubt have dominated the conversation surrounding its return. But newbie cast member Arlene Tur, who plays ER doc Vera Juarez in the “don’t call it a reboot” installment, thinks the first episode, airing tonight, will quell their fears.

“Initially, I was thinking that maybe they wouldn’t like it because they’re coming to the U.S., but I think they should be more proud that it’s a collaboration,” she says. “It’s not like we’re trying to make it American. We’re saying, ‘You have a great thing going and we’d like to join you.’ It’s a compliment more than anything. I’ve spoken to a couple of the British press, and they’re just taken aback by it. [But] I think their opinions have changed on that and so will the fanbase.” READ FULL STORY »

See Homer Simpson's invitation to the Royal Couple -- EXCLUSIVE PHOTO

When Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge arrive in Los Angeles this afternoon, they will have a world of possibilities at their golden fingertips. (Beaches! Mountains! Traffic!) Turns out, the pair even received a brilliant offer from the folks in Springfield. Having read that Prince William was a fan of The Simpsons as a boy, the show’s writers invited the Royal Couple to attend a read-through of an upcoming episode with the cast. Well, they didn’t officially extend the invitation — Homer did. In his frosting-stained-yet-surprisingly-eloquent letter to William and Kate, the Simpson patriarch displays a rather impressive knowledge of British royalty (“We know your vacation time is precious, and you must be very tired from your busy schedule back home of jousting and fighting dragons”), and draws a few intriguing parallels between the two cultures (“British people revere the royal family, where in America, we worship on our own royal family: The Kardashians”). Alas, William and Kate regretfully declined, as they will be royally busy with various throne-representing commitments. (That, or Homer didn’t throw in enough pints of Duff.) The Simpsons camp isn’t conceding defeat yet, though. “Our next choice is Prince Harry, and then we’ll go to one of Fergie’s kids,” quips Simpsons executive producer Al Jean. “We’ll work our way down.”
