Expect the unexpected. We must have heard those words a million times last night on the season 13 premiere of Big Brother, but you know what you can always expect on that show? Contestants straddling a giant banana and having whipped cream sprayed all over their faces! Kristen Baldwin, Jessica Shaw and Kate Ward join me on the latest InsideTV Podcast to break down all the latest Big Brother shenanigans. How do we feel about the new players (especially the dude who loves metal, bacon and 90210)? Who is more hateful: Evel Dick or Rachel? And how does the Golden Power of Veto now feel about there also being a Golden Key? (Is the house big enough for that much gold?!?)

To join in on the fun, just click on the audio player icon below. Or, since we’re on iTunes, you can subscribe for free and take the podcast with you on the go. No iTunes? No problem. You can also download the entire podcast right here. And to send a question to the InsideTV Podcast team, follow us on Twitter @InsideTVPodcast. Harry Smith has found a new home. The former Early Show host — who first joined CBS back in 1987 — is swapping networks to NBC News, where he will collaborate with Brian Williams on a primetime newsmagazine. The show is set to premiere during the 2011-2012 season.

Last November, Smith and Maggie Rodriguez were ousted from Early Show in an effort to revamp the morning show. Chris Wragge and Erica Hall replaced the two vets.

ABC's Comic-Con plans revealed, including moderator Damon Lindelof

He’s back! Kinda. It wouldn’t be Comic-Con without Damon Lindelof on stage for an ABC drama series. We don’t have Lost to obsess about anymore, but Lindelof will be in San Diego to moderate the panel for ABC’s new fantasy series Once Upon a Time (and, presumably, to support Cowboys and Aliens).

ABC just announced it will also have panels for the more Lost-esque midseason mystery drama The River, as well as for Charlie’s Angels and Castle.

Biggest 'Big Brother' premiere in four years

Categories: TV Ratings

The return of Big Brother delivered strong ratings for CBS, the veteran reality contest pulling down 7.7 million viewers and a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49.

That’s up 8 percent from last summer’s opener and marks the show’s best debut rating in four years. Brother returning didn’t help the show’s 9 p.m. ABC Expedition Impossible (5.5 million, 1.6) over on ABC, the adventure contest slipped again, down 16 percent this week. Lead-in Wipeout (6.6 million, 2.0) was flat while 10 p.m.’s Rookie Blue (5.6 million, 1.5) gained slightly.

On Fox, So You Think You Can Dance (5.4 million, 1.6) was unchanged from last week’s low.

This exclusive compilation video of Ron’s best foodie moments is not only a peek inside the brain of a complicated man, but pretty darn hilarious, too. 'Game of Thrones' casts fan favorite Brienne

Another role has been filled on HBO’s Game of Thrones!

Actress Gwendoline Christie has been cast in the pivotal part of Brienne, announced Thrones author George R.R. Martin on his blog.

Brienne isn’t physically a very flattering character in the books, described as a large and piggish-looking woman with an awkward personality who’s mocked as “Brienne the Beauty.” But her character, who serves the late king’s brother Renly, is a fan favorite. Brienne is as tough and skilled with a sword as most men and longs for knighthood despite her gender. Christie is a relatively unknown actress who was in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and joins former Tudors star Natalie Dormer who was added to the Thrones season 2 cast a couple weeks back.

UPDATE: Here’s who will play Davos and here’s who is cast for Melisandre and Stannis.

Former Twilight star Rachelle Lefevre has landed a series regular role in the upcoming CBS medical drama A Gifted Man.

Lefevre is joining the cast of the fall series, about a recently widowed doctor who begins to see visions of his deceased wife. She’ll play Kate, a doctor at the family “clinica” where Dr. Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson) now finds himself spending more and more time, pulled away from his own very upscale hospital.

Lefevre appeared as the sinister vampire Victoria in the first two Twilight films, then was bumped from the third due to a scheduling conflict with an indie film — a producer decision that caused outcry among some fans. She was also another TV medical drama –  ABC’s Off the Map.

If you’ve watched syndicated reruns of sitcom How I Met Your Mother lately, you might have been startled to see advertisements for very current movies such as Bad Teacher and Zookeeper in episodes that originally aired as early as 2006, long before those flicks were made. The photos here, for instance, are from the second-season episode titled “Swarley,” which originally aired Nov. 6, 2006 — more than four years before Bad Teacher hit theaters. So… what exactly is going with this phenomenon? EW investigated, and here’s the scoop.

TNT renews 'Falling Skies' for second season

TNT just renewed Falling Skies for a second season.

The alien invasion drama has been a ratings success on Sunday nights so far, with its premiere posting as the most-watched cable debut of the year. Skies has averaged 6.4 million viewers for its first three episodes if you include DVR use. Sunday’s episode of Skies slipped once again, but at 4 million viewers it was a very mild drop between episodes two and three — especially for a holiday weekend.

Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing,” said Michael Wright, head of programming for TNT. “We’re reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next.” TNT picked up another 10 episodes which will debut next summer.
