On this week’s True Blood, we met the other four vampire sheriffs of Louisiana when King Bill summoned them to discuss their witch problem. One of the vampires, Blackburn (pictured), is played by Aaron Perilo, who celebrated his debut by watching the show with friends — a circle of dedicated True Blood fans. (They hushed the fool who “Ooh!”ed when he made his first appearance, he reports. There is no talking during True Blood.) Though Perilo is under the usual cast orders to stay spoiler-free, here’s what we gleaned from our chat this morning:

• Blackburn has been an acquaintance of Bill and Eric’s for “a very long time,” and he’s friends with Eric (at least the one who’d remember him). He doesn’t have a job in the human world, and “he doesn’t really care too much about the human race,” Perilo says. READ FULL STORY »

What happens when a TV show’s mission is achieved?

Last February, Japan suspended its controversial whaling operations after years of international criticism — and, more specifically, the aggressive efforts of marine conservation group Sea Shepherd to halt the practice, as chronicled on Animal Planet’s hit Whale Wars.

The activists, in other words, won. So now network has ordered a spin-off that not only continues the show’s legacy of whaling prevention tactics, but is launching a bigger operation than ever before. READ FULL STORY »

'Doctor Who' trailer might give you nightmares (but it's worth it)

Categories: Doctor Who

Before Comic-Con closed out this year’s epic event, the cast and creative team from BBC America’s Doctor Who took to Hall H to talk about the upcoming season and debut the trailer (which you can check out after the jump).

It all goes too fast, if you ask me, but it definitely makes you wish tomorrow was Aug. 27. I’m most excited about an eye-patch-wearing Alex Kingston returning as River Song, and I’m least excited about seeing some of the scaries featured in this teaser in my dreams (particularly anything around the 30-second mark). If it happens, it’ll be worth it, though. Because this trailer is amazing. READ FULL STORY »

The biggest Glee news coming out of Comic-Con: Despite Ryan Murphy saying that Rachel, Kurt, and Finn will graduate at end of this coming third season, stars Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, and Cory Monteith will return for season 4.

At today’s panel in San Diego, Glee co-creator and exec producer Brad Falchuk told the audience that even though the three were set to finish high school, “because they’re graduating doesn’t mean they’re leaving the show. If you have Lea Michele under contract, you don’t say, ‘We’re gonna let you go.’” READ FULL STORY »

Comic-Con 2011: 'Fringe' cast talks recasting Josh Jackson, and who should get naked for Emmy love

Categories: Fringe, Television

After Saturday’s Fringe panel, which featured a gag reel of all-star “auditions” for Joshua Jackson’s Peter Bishop, the cast stopped by EW’s VIP lounge at Comic-Con to chat with our own Sandra Gonzalez and debate which of those featured actors they’d like to see in the role. (Jackson called for an EW.com poll, which you’ll find below.) Later asked what they’d need to do to get shown some Emmy love, another debate broke out on who should get naked. (No poll, sorry.) Watch a clip from the interview below. READ FULL STORY »

Comic-Con 2011: 'Vampire Diaries' cast talks soapy Somerhalder and Wesley's worst nightmare

After their Saturday panel at this year’s Comic-Con, the cast of The Vampire Diaries and exec producer Julie Plec visited EW’s VIP lounge to chat with our own Sandra Gonzalez. Naturally, she led with a question about the season 3 footage that got the loudest reaction at the panel: A wet, shirtless Ian Somerhalder. “I soaped him for that scene,” Paul Wesley cracked. And that wasn’t the last laugh: If Wesley doesn’t love the attention of, say, 4,250 people singing “Happy Birthday” to him — which the crowd did during the panel — why did he become an actor? “I hide behind the complexities of Stefan,” Wesley deadpanned into the camera. We want to see Stefan be that funny! Watch a clip from the interview below. READ FULL STORY »

'Alcatraz' producer on 'Lost' comparison: 'We totally embrace it.'

Is Alcatraz the next Lost? You can’t help asking the question. The show comes from Bad Robot productions, home of Lost co-creator J. J. Abrams. The Alcatraz showrunner is iconic Lost writer Elizabeth Sarnoff. One of the show’s stars — arguably the biggest name attached, depending on how often you rewatch Jurassic Park — is Jorge Garcia, Lost‘s lovable Hurley. After a rough pilot season that saw the series picked up as a midseason replacement, Fox hired Jack Bender as an executive producer and director — the same Jack Bender who directed most of the iconic episodes of Lost, including the three-hour finale. And that’s not to mention the plot, which focuses on a mysterious island, features extensive use of flashbacks, and might even (why not?) include time travel. READ FULL STORY »
