As usual, the cast and writers of Dexter were generous with teasers for the next season, which returns Oct. 2. Here’s what they spilled during their Comic-Con panel today in San Diego. (Check out the trailer with the awesome use of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” song after the jump):

  • Dexter (Michael C. Hall) begins the season with worries that the apple won’t fall far from the tree when it comes to his son, Harrison. Will the little guy be a killer, too? “That’s a fundamental fear that Dexter has, that’s where he’s at,” Hall told the crowd. “He knows he doesn’t want his son to show those traits and he doesn’t want to encourage them. That’s a constant fear and consideration.”  That’s where religion comes in! “His son is only going to get older and more in need of guidance, and Dexter feels ill-equipped to provide that. As a result he is motivated to find ways to do that, including giving him spiritual grounding .. something that Dexter hasn’t cared about.” Executive Producer Sara Colleton would like to add to that. “Dexter knows what he doesn’t want to pass on to Harrison, so he starts this journey that snowballs into a huge evolved plot for the season. It’s initiated by his desire to define faith … which is by it very nature, undefinable. It’s done in true Dexter style so it’s a lot of fun.” READ FULL STORY »

'Shameless' at Comic-Con: What's the big deal about Emmy Rossum showing her boobs?

Categories: Cable, Television
emmy-rossum_320.jpg

Don’t ask Emmy Rossum to talk about her nude scenes in Shameless – the Showtime drama that’s already in production on a second season that’ll return early next year. The comely actress got a little defensive when her Comic-Con moderator asked her to talk about flashing her breasts more than once during the drama’s first season.

“There’s a stupid stigma about it,” Rossum snapped. “It’s just a body, it isn’t anything. It doesn’t say who you are inside. I tihnk I revealed way more on this show in scenes were I got to be unattractive and lonely than I ever did in a scene where I was having sex with my boyfriend. People are all a tizzy about it.”

Well, some nudity helps when you are dealing with a show about a reckless dad and the family who lives with him. Case in point: That naked butt you see in the opening credits? Executive Producer John Wells said the vision of a pants-free derriere – which rumor has it, belongs to series star Justin Chatwin, though he didn’t seem to want to acknowledge it — was by design so people would know what to expect from the dramedy.

“You mean this isn’t a show about plumbing?” star William H. Macy joked.

Otherwise, there wasn’t too much spilled about the second season, but the crowd at Comic-Con got a taste of Macy’s dry — but genius — sense of humor. But when it came to talking about his pay cable gig, Macy was humble and genuine. “It’s a joy to come back to this and get to be with this character and these cast members again. I’m just in love with this job. It’s the greatest fun I ever had.”

Receiving huge cheers from the fan boys and girls who packed the second biggest room in the San Diego Convention Center, Sarah Michelle Gellar returned to Comic-Con Thursday to promote Ringer, her comeback to TV after Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended eight years ago. “When you have a show like Buffy that was so perfect, you’re not looking for a show to top it. You’re not looking for show that’s completely different,” Gellar said during the panel moderated by EW’s own Kristen Baldwin. “We wouldn’t exist without fans. We wanted to come back and do a show that fans would love that would be different but still exciting.”

For the uninitiated, Ringer is about twins sisters — one who is driven by redemption and one who is driven by revenge — that was first developed by CBS but ended up on The CW. Star Ioan Gruffudd — who plays the rich husband of one of the twins — admitted that he didn’t recognize the fifth network, but he and the cast were ultimately grateful that it picked up the heavy serialized drama. “I’m thrilled, because I’m 37 now and the median age of all the cast members on The CW is 22,” he told the audience. “I’m thrilled that I’m considered to be young enough.” READ FULL STORY »

Wanted: New Charlie for 'Charlie's Angels'

Categories: 2011 ABC Upfronts

Goodbye, Charlie! ABC’s reboot of Charlie’s Angels hasn’t bowed yet but the studio is already making a change on the high-profile project: Robert Wagner won’t be voicing the iconic (and unseen) character this fall. Sony TV, which is producing the drama for ABC, told TV Guide in a statement: “Due to his scheduling conflicts, Robert Wagner will need to step away from his duties as Charlie on Charlie’s Angels.” Dang! The 81-year-old vet of film and TV would have been great.

Suggestions for his replacement? Ricky Gervais? James Earl Jones? Newman from Seinfeld?

Heidi Fleiss launching reality show about ... parrots?

Categories: Reality TV

So. This just happened: Animal Planet is teaming with Heidi Fleiss for a reality show about parrots. Seems the former Hollywood madame has 20 macaw parrots. And that’s worth a TV show, right?

Here’s the must-read official series description: “With her home covered in bird poop and monthly bills for the birds soaring into the thousands, the former madam must balance her need to tend to the birds at home with the necessity of leaving them to earn a living outside of it. With multiple businesses and jobs to focus on, Fleiss spends her days shuttling from the laundromat she owns, to the doggie daycare she is set to open. But, as the anxiety at being away from her birds increases, and the pressure to hire a staff to care for them rises, will the stress of life drive her back to drugs?”

The title is Heidi Fleiss: Prostitutes to Parrots — because you gotta work the big pimping in there somehow. “I never, ever thought that I would end up here, but everything happens for a reason,” Fleiss says. “[Today] some people call me a crazy lady who plays with birds. It’s been a crazy way to reinvent myself, but I love these birds and I will be successful.”

The show debuts July 31. What do you think, readers: Will you tune in to see if bird poop causes Heidi Fleiss to relapse? Will she resort to pimping out her birds?
