Al Jazeera English, the Qatar-based news station that has been lauded for its coverage of the Middle East’s recent political upheavals but remains controversial in this country, is now available in the New York City market, according to the New York Times. The news network has struggled to establish a foothold in the U.S., but is now subletting cable space from RISE, a suburban New York channel, and will simulcast 23 hours of programming each day. (Al Jazeera English already has a similar business relationship with another cable channel in the Washington, D.C. market.)

The only thing i know about the English version is for some odd reason they have Sir David Frost

I imagine Al Jazeera is middle eastern propoganda network much like Fox News is a republican propoganda network. I watch Fox News occasionally to see their takes on certain issues so I would probably watch Al Jazeera for the same reason.

It’s heavily biased for Qatar news but surprisingly sane on anything else. It’s one of the few major news stations that actually focus on news, and their coverage of things like the Arab uprising has been nothing short of fantastic.
What, we don’t get enough one sided news from our own news programs that we need to hear theirs?

Al Jazeera’s coverage of world events is unsurpassed. The major US Networks should take note, quit running entertainment fluff and let Americans know what is going on in every corner of the world.
