USA Network bosses: 'Outlook is sunny' for second season of 'Suits,' 'Necessary Roughness'

USA network co-presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel are more than pleased with the performance from freshman drama series Suits and Necessary Roughness. “The outlook is sunny,” McCumber said at last night’s NBC party during the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles. “The future is so bright, we feel like wearing shades,” Wachtel added.

Timbuk3 references aside, the two shows have been doing good numbers, with both pulling in well over 4 million viewers every week. Last week, Suits topped the night among viewers 18-49 with 1.8 million of its 4.4 million falling into the demo.

I would definitely renew both of these shows. Suits and Necessary Roughness are great shows, just like the other USA network shows. USA network’s “characters welcome” moniker is definitely working on me, cause I watch nine shows on this network, and each one comes with great characters, good drama and good humor.

I follow @TedOnTV on twitter. Love him and USA shows. Watch every show at USA puts on because I know it will be on good quality and if it has some tough edges, USA will work them out instead of canceling it.
THIS IS HUGE TO ME! I can’t stand picking up a new show and getting invested and then having it cancelled after a few shows.

    YES! I love “Suits”!

Suits gave me ice cream on the streets of Chicago. Therefore, it should be renewed.

I was really excited for this show, but after I watched the first couple episodes of Necessary Roughness I quickly found myself skipping over everything involving her family. After four episodes I gave it up. I like her work with the clients, but the constant family drama got old fast.

Suit just fill like a ripoff of white collar

Really? I love both shows for completely different reasons. Harveys in on the secret on suits, peter is completely out of the loop with Neal.

I’m still going back and forth on “Suits”. I’m fighting how annoyed I am with how arrogant Harvey is, and I don’t think I should have to work that hard watching TV! Also, not sure how much time I want to spend watching lawyers being lawyers…one of the reasons I like “Fairly Legal” is that the mediator HAD been a lawyer and is trying to find a way to with-in (and with-out) the system. Also, the character is fun to watch…AND she lives on a boat!

I love Harvey’s arrogance. It’s what makes the show so entertaining. Yeah, in real life, he’d be a jerk, just like House is, but on TV, it’s fun to watch a character like Harvey and House.

Just because the two shows have similar elements doesn’t mean one is a rip off of the other. And even if it was a rip off, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy both. I mean, I love Psych, but The Mentalist is good too.

I feel the same about “Necessary Roughness.” The family stuff is awful and her kids are spoiled
brats. I wish the father would get custody so that the kids leave the show. The therapist stuff more interesting.

I also like “Necessary Roughness”, and I agree that the business with Dani’s kids needs to be dialed–go live with Dad or share custody and have the kids show up now and again. The children are noxious, especially the daughter (the actress playing her does the bratty sneer TOO well–as a mom, at a certain point, I’d be tempted to slap that sneer right off her face [and I don't have my mom to step in and send me to MY room, like Dani's mother did])…I like the therapy scenes and the interplay between Dani and her patients…I would like to see Dani and Nico do the flirtation dance and for Dani to have to decide between the “fixer” and the trainer (the trainer is hot and darling; the fixer, hot and dangerous).

  • Cindy

I’m thoroughly enjoying Necessary Roughness. The scenes with Dani and Nico are charming. And it’s cheap therapy.

I hoping that this network could pick up and/or renew Matt Nix’s
“The Good Guys”. It was an awesome freshman show that didn’t have room to grow. Burn Notice is such a success and that The Good Guys could possibly have more followers than it did on Fox if it was brought to USA. It was refreshing to see a spoof comedy cop show with such funny story lines other than reality tv shows. Love Dan Stark’s character on the show!! I hope that USA would consider this show in their program lineup. I currently watch several shows on this network and they are original like they say. Please USA don’t join the so called reality tv show boat. You’re better than that. :)

Love Suits, I don’t find any similarity to White Collar apart from the wardrobe, and wouldn’t dream of missing either show. Necessary Roughness is of no interest to me, but it doesn’t detract from my love for USA. The big 4 networks are circling the drain with only a few shows i enjoy in any given week. USA, TNT and A&E are the programming leaders in my book.

  • Liz

USA has had quality shows for the past several year. In Plain Sight, Burn Notice, I wish they would get more press. I do t even watch shows on the big three anymore.

Surely hoping for Necessary Roughness to be renewed. Do enjoy the show…esp Callie, Nico and Matt.Nice to see Suits up there also. USA keeps bringing us top notch shows !!!!

  • Elizabeth

I LOVE SUITS!! Love the characters, love the story lines, love everything about it! Please keep it on! USA is top in my networks. Love Covert Affairs also!

  • taw

I love Suits and am glad to see its potential renewal (Yippee!) I will admit I have not seen Necessary Roughness. I just hope that we would not have to wait until next summer for season 2 like they did with Covert Affairs, that made for a very long wait.

  • Elizabeth

Pick up “the good guys” from fox! It was an awesome show. Fox doesn’t have the viewers for it but USA does!!! Bring it back!!
