Alec Baldwin will host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live, as first reported by the New York Times. It will mark the 16th time that Baldwin has hosted the show, a record. NBC has also confirmed that Bridesmaids‘ break-out star Melissa McCarthy will host the season’s second episode. Both actors will be surrounded by familiar faces; producer Lorne Michaels told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that the entire cast will be returning for this season, the show’s 37th.

I’m sure Steve Martin will be hosting sometime soon afterwards to keep up the “rivalry.”

    • tracy bluth

Exactly…and he will hopefully show up during Alec’s episode!
Also, yay Melissa McCarthy! I’ve loved her since Gilmore Girls, and she was my favorite part of Bridesmaids.

      • Cygnus

They need to bring in Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, and Paul Simon too, to continue their rivalries and gags for hosting the most.

      • Josh

        And John Goodman!

      • Jennifer

They should have Jon Hamm and Justin Timberlake show up and try to join their club, only to be hazed mercilessly…

      • Good Luck Charlie

        Wrong, wrong, wrong.

They should have one of the stars from “Switched at Birth” host, or Noah Wyle from Falling Skies, or Rufus Sewell from Zen on Masterpiece Mystery

      • orville

I kind of wish they could get Buck Henry back in on the “rivalry” too–he’s hosted 10 times.

      • reel_deal

I agree with Josh on Goodman, hopefully his stint on Community this season fits the bill of “Host plugging Something” theme they’ve gone with

I am beautiful woman and I love good man…..inter racial romance is my dream… so I joined —- βlαckwhitеCùpid.СòM—–it’s where to- connect with beautiful and excellent people! Maybe you wanna ch’eck it out or tell your friends.

    • Joon

Good lord, remember when Alec was hot? Yes, I know he is a popular commodity now, but I mean “hot” as in “I wanna sleep with him.” Miami Blues, Malice, The Hunt for Red October…damn, he was absolutely, stunningly gorgeous. His body was in shape, he was hairy, masculine, and he had a dangerous edge… Today, he is…well, he is funny. But boy, why dyd he have to let himself go like that? He could still be a hottie, even at his age…

      • Matt

        1)He’s still a bad-a$$ looking dude
2)There are much more important things to worry about.

      • Winnie50

@ Joon – Seriously? He is in his 60′s now and people do tend to become less attractive as they age. Comments like yours is the reason that that most actors in their 40′s and 50′s look like they are made of plastic. They feel like they have to keep up with the younger generation instead of aging gracefully as nature intended.

      • Joon

Winnie and Matt: 1- I still think he is a badass. 2- I totally believe he is one of the funniest people in Hollywood. 3- My complain was not about his face. You don’t have to have plastic surgery to still look young-ish. (Ironically, in spite of your reservations about my post, Alec has indeed had some work done on his face. You can tell) No, my problem is with his body. Hollywood stars have full access to the best nutritionists, the best personal trainers, the best gyms and spas, etc. He could have maintained that formerly beautiful body of his even at this age. That’s all I’m saying. And that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy him anymore. But I could definitely see him being funny AND hot in his sixties.

      • Jefffro

        Alec is 53 years old.

      • alec baldwin’s nutrionist

folks, it’s not rocket science. you don’t need “the best nutritionist.” it’s on the internet. exercise, eat less fat. alec is just fat, folks. he doesn’t care. move on. he has.

    • vin

Steve needs to host his own episode! It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t have a movie or cd or anything out at the time jsut make him host!!!

  • KC

I remember when the ones Alec hosted were actually good.
That must’ve been 10-15 years ago.

  • “familiar faces”

    i.e, Tina Fey
Can she not distance herself from SNL already?

    • Reading Comprehension is Your Friend

“Familiar faces” referred to the returning cast.

      • UGH

Yeah, but “ff” probably hit that one on the head.

  • Cygnus

Hopefully we dont get another season full of Kristen Wiig crazed women, ESPN product spoofs, and wasted music/bands you never heard of. The music needs to be cut to a single song or nothing at all, and find something new/original to fill that spot.

    • Jen

I am pretty sure most people would not consider Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber, Pearl Jam, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Tom Petty, Chris Brown, Paul Simon, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Eminem, Paul McCartney,Linkin Park, Kings of Leon, and many others bands you never heard of. Granted, some may not be everyones taste in music but they do have very well known artists on this show.

      • S.O.

Don’t forget “The Black Keys” also. One of the best Alternative Rock bands out right now was musical guest when Jim Carrey hosted.

  • Paige

I’m excited for Melissa McCarthy! She is hilarious and very talented, and absolutely stole the show in Bridesmaids.

  • Nathan

I wouldn’t be surprised to see McCarthy get a supporting actress nod for Bridesmaids, hope she does.

    • davey

she was funny – but, NO…I wouldn’t count on it!

      • Kathy

She could( and should ) get a nod for a golden globe for the comedy category but not for an Oscar.

  • jets

I think Elle Fanning, Chloe Moretz, and Hailee Steinfield all co-hosting an episode would be fascenating. Or just Chloe in November, near when “Hugo” comes out. They haven’t had a young’n host for awhile.

      • Jen

Charlie Sheen hosted back in 2001 and was actually very funny.

  • tim

    More schwetty balls.
Hes a great host an actor.

  • MiaS

    I agree with Cygnus.
Time to bring back all the members of the 5 timers Club.
Remember the Club scene and Conan was the butler? Funny stuff.

    • Bill

Baldwin and Steve Martin are 15 timers. They look at the 5 timers like 5 timers look at the 1 timers. It’s down to these two. And there can be only one.

  • nicole

Awesome for Alec, bad for us. I can’t believe they are going to keep the entire cast. Abby Elliott is DEAD weight, the only reason she is kept on is because of her kinda funny dad. And Seth Meyer is still head writer, does Lorne have any idea how much last season sucked?

  • ben

@Nathan Tha sounds fantastic because the speech she made to Kristen Wiig is a notworthy scene as well as much stealing every scene in the movie. As well as the screenplay and Kristen Wiig’s performance at least for the Golden Globes. If The Hangover can win Best Comedy at the GGs, so can Bridesmaids because it is a summer hit and it got better reviews for the acting and comedic skills.

  • ben

They need more diversity in the cast. From the writers to the cast, they need more women, African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians, etc. If MadTV had an advantage over SNL, it is diversity. Also, if SNL was going bad back then, I’d always flip over to MadTV. Not everyone gets the humor at SNL, but people could always find a favorite on MadTV (Aries Spears BTW). If they want a great season, they need to fix these glaring problems.

    • Mike

Just need to start using Jay Pharaoh more. They couldn’t figure out how to use him last year except for the obligatory Will Smith imitations…

      • JMAG

^ Agreed…..the cast is so boring and similiar..

      • Jeff C.

Agreed Jay Pharoah is hilarious, as is Taran Killam, though they are both very underused.

  • Cris

Given their recent success in movies, I’m kind of surprised Wiig and Sudeikis are coming back.

  • ben

I would love to see Nick Offerman, better known as Ron Swanson, host.

    • LMFAO

Hopefully that will happen this season!
