Syfy renews 'Eureka,' and is 'hopeful' it will continue

What’s going on with Eureka?

Syfy confirms its ordered a mere six episodes for a sixth season of the veteran sci-fi drama. But the network seems to be disputing a report that the shortened order definitely marks the end of the series.

In a statement issued to EW, Mark Stern, president of programing at Syfy, says: “[Producers] Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia have brought a creative vitality to Eureka that has kept it fresh and inventive. Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise.”

Notice Stern says “franchise” at the end here instead of “show” or “series.” Spin-off? Hmm…

Sounds like new contracts time to me…

  • Big D

Rut roh! Time to start the Save Eureka movement!

  • Brent

They can’t let “Eureka” end. It is one of the most original, inventive, and entertaining shows on television. Oh, yeah…that’s not like the rest of the crap on TV and that stuff costs squat to produce.

  • jk

Hopefully Eureka will get more than just six episodes next season. But if it is the end of Eureka, please move Carter and Fargo over to Warehouse 13.

    • bob

Season 5 already has 13 episodes, this is an extra 6 to bring it to 19. I guess you could view the extra 6 episodes as season 6 or as season 5.5.
Either way, there are still 25 episodes left to air.

I may seriously cry if Eureka ends. It’s one of my favorite tv shows of all time.

      • Bill

That’s wild Anonymous! My list is about the same one! Except: 1. Eureka, 2. Warehouse 13, 3. Haven, 4. Alphas! I also agree with Big D! Time to start the “Save Eureka” movement!

Syfy hopes it will continue? They could make that happen by ordering it up and making it continue. I’m no fan of the show, but I absolutely hate double-speak. Would have been better if Stern had said, “It’s been a good run,” so that the crew and cast members have a definitive answer and can find other jobs after the show ends.

Um guys, it’s only currently airing season 4.5; we still have another year. Clearly over the break we’re about to hit, they’ll have the mission to Titan, and then come back after break with the results of that mission. Have to remember they work in half seasons.

    • GooGoo

Dude, don’t be fooled by “4.5.” We’re in the fifth season.

      • Lisa London

All of these “half seasons” confuse the heck out of me. A ploy to sell more DVDs?

      • Sam

Actually, this is the sixth summer of first run episodes.

  • cin

Just like Siffy to let another one go. Must be more wrestling or a giant alligator that needs space. You guys need help. Remember just because it’s not spelled SciFi, doesn’t mean that is not what you promised us(you know, the loyal fans).

  • David F.

How about giving everyone a straight answer for once?

  • John W

I hope they’re just messing around. Eureka is a good show.

  • BAdams

They must need room for more rasslin.

  • Moorlan

Damn, I love it so much that the theme is my tone for text messages.

  • Greg

I really really hope this show is not cancelled. It is one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever seen on Syfy.

    • ks

I love it as well, syfy has to know that keeping Eureka around is a good move, but you never know with syfy-look at all the great shows they have let go

  • GooGoo

Man! I hope they don’t cancel it. The first couple of seasons I was “meh” But since Colin Ferguson’s been allowed to let his goofball flag fly it’s been really enjoyable.
I love it when he comes up with a science solution to a problem, everyone looks shocked and he declares “I been listening.”

    • Jen

It’s getting a little formulaic, but I love when the “dummy” sheriff figures out how to fix the scientific problems. I agree it is funny when he says, “I’ve been listening.”

  • Catherine

I think the Cast, or some of them are ready to move on, so maybe they would do a spin off. The cast was hinting that they wanted a ‘challenge’ at Comic Con 2 years ago, then they rebooted the show last year, so maybe some are still thinking its time to move on.
