Oh those cruel TV critics! Fox’s The New Girl star Zooey Deschanel barely survived her encounter with the hard-nosed media at their press tour in Beverly Hills, where she was asked: “When did you first realize you were adorable?”
Deschanel blushes and covers her ears.
“My mom told me when I get compliments to cover my ears,” she says.
Dammit! She pulled that adorable thing again.
“Thank you for saying that,” she said. “I don’t know if I’m adorable. No, really. I’m flustered. I don’t think of myself that way but I will take the compliment.”
Another critic asked about the similarities between her character in 500 Days of Summer and her Fox sitcom character. “They look alike,” she quipped… adorably.

I thought I was the only one. The woman has one note as someone who’s done a few drugs. I saw her in the Tin Man on Syfy and thought she was horrible – all her roles are the slightly ditsy or drugged adorable character.
I cannot watch any of her work, she is that bad.

Watch Tin Man a second time. I think you’ll find it much better once you understand – from hindsight – what is going on.
She was great on Weeds. They need to get her back with Andy.
I think it really depends on the role with her. check out Manic, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, intense movie but I thought her acting was solid in it.
When she gets to do something other than bohemian crush object, she’s not bad. In Failure to Launch, she was ‘that person in the office that hates everyone’ — and pretty much the only good thing about the film.

Totally loved her in Failure To Launch. She and Bartha made that film for me, because I can’t stand SJP and MM.

She was so adorable in 500 Days that I hated her for treating Joseph Gordon Levitt like that. Finding the girl of your dreams, having fun with her, then she turns out to be a big tease.
She did NOT tease him, she told him from the beginning that she didn’t want anything serious – he didn’t listen.
Still she consciously knew he was falling in love, and shouldnt have allowed it to happen.
Don’t date actresses. That is lesson number one.

I could not figure out all the flattery in 500 days of summer, a women who is obviously totally infatuated with herself, who has a hairdo and wardrobe from the 50s, that is not adorable. It is annoying.
I found the movie to be WAY overrated.
The faux-indie thing is pretty lame, too.
She wasn’t infatuated with herself, she just didn’t love him, despite the fact that she wanted too.
Kevin is 100% right. You all have growing up to do. Her character had been alienated by the attraction of men. She wanted something real, and was both lost and defensively retreating in the mirror of herself in trying to find that authenticity.

Not that either is lacking in each department, but if you have to compare the 2, this is the only fair way.
