'The Secret Circle': Cast talks about the 'sexy' series, living up to fan anticipation

The cast of the CW’s The Secret Circle is well aware of the buzz around the show as a result of the popular young- adult book series and know it’s a lot to live up to.

“It’s stressful, because we want to make sure people like what we’re doing and we can only go by what we hope people will like at this point because no one has seen it,” cast member Thomas Dekker said.

In a chat with EW, cast members Gale Harold, Adam Harrington, Thomas Dekker, and Ashley Crow talk about those big expectations and how the show will live up to the fan hype.

Read this series a million times, and the trailer bears little resemblance to the book. Pass.

Wow, because it would be wrong to modify the TV series a little so that tired old whiners like you can stop the hate and give it a chance. Run along now.

Whatever take your liberal stance elsewhere

    • Jenna

Television is a completely different medium than literature and HAS to be modified to keep viewer interest. What works on the page does not work on the screen.

Also, these books were written something like 15 years ago. It only makes sense to update the story for the times.

Your close mind won’t be missed. The show is doing great without you anyway.

I like the idea of witchcraft as an expansion of natural forces. And I’m very excited about Gale Harold as this complex character.

the cw is smart to jump on with the supernatural trends. vampires are so over done, werewolves are fun but… Witches are where its at. you get it all with witches, sexy, smart, stylish, fun, entertaining, appeals to all ages and genders. with the growing occult trend its a sure fire way to make a hit. now if it stays away from being overly fantastical and is more realistically believable its going to a show that makes it big.

& Karen if it keeps to the book too much that’s just predictable & boring. I loved the books but this has the books spirit & I’m sure its going to keep us guessing & entertained. It’s not supposed to be a exact copy of the book.. its a series not a movie. Look at true blood. I hope its more into the natural powers of witchcraft, also spells with words & rituals not fire throwing crap. & not overly wiccan like the books. More realistic witchcraft. The books captured that well… just very wicca-ish.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s the cast of Heroes! Pretty much, I mean. There’s Claire’s mom, and her best friend Zach!! If Sylar makes an appearance……

Keep in mind, the Vampire Diaries started off as sort of “Twi-lite” and turned absolutely awesome so give this one a chance.

Gale is gorgeous! The Secret Circle brovo!

I’m going to try it, because I love Thomas Dekker. He did a really good job as John Conner in the Sarah Conner Chronicles and I liked him in Heroes.

Love Gale harold’s work, love the theme of the show and love anyhing the cw/other networks do in the themes of supernatural, and etc. Thanks for this article.

I’m going to give it a chance. I think Kevin Williamson has done a great job with The Vampire Diaries so it’s worth a look. About it straying away from the books -I don’t give a flip. If it’s good in its own way -then that is all that matters.

  • Dawn

Dekker & the ladies? Yeah right.

    • Jenna

      What? Is he gay?

  • Yvonne Reid

I’m really looking forward to this show.I can’t wait to see Gale as Charles!!!!

But why did they eliminate all the minorities? When they downsized the cast of characters fromthe books to screen, why not include a few ethnic people in a coven of 6? It’s ridiculous, but since I haven’t read the books, I guess the minority characters weren’t that central anyway. *sigh*

    • existentialpenguin

There weren’t any minorities in the coven in the book. They’re all 2nd and 3rd cousins and all typical old-school new england white.

  • Rex

Couldn’t care less about the book-to-screen transition having not read the books myself. Not interested in this in the slightest until just now when I learned Gale Harold is involved. Great. Now I’ll have to check it out.

  • Marion LoCurto

i’ll watch to see gale harold. i would anything to see gale.
