At last: The Department of Motor Vehicles is getting its own reality show.

TruTV has ordered a new series from executive producers Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg that goes behind-the-scenes at a California DMV office.

“We’ve all spent time at the DMV, but few people know what it’s like to work for the DMV,” said Goldberg, who’s co-founder and CEO of Katalyst Films (Punk’d, Beauty and the Geek). “California DMV: Field Offices promise to be a glimpse at what DMV workers experience, from strange to hilarious.”

The DMV is infamous for its long waits and is one of the few places in California where the crowd is always a truly socially and economically diverse cross section — after all, sooner or later, everybody must go to the DMV.

“With California DMV: Field Offices, truTV is ready to jump behind the counter and see what really happens,” said Marc Juris, executive vp and general manager of truTV. “This promises to be a fast-paced, fun series, and we’re excited to be working with Katalyst for the first time.”

The series will shoot on location in several DMV offices. No premiere date is set, but the network has made a four-episode commitment.

I’m pretty sure no one has EVER used the words “fast-paced” and “fun” in relation to the DMV.

He is just piggy backing off parking wars. You think a show about parking is stupid until its on a weekend marathon. You watch 10 minutes of one episode and you get addicted and end up watching 10 episodes in a row.

  • Clete

He needs to show up at my job, the fast-paced fun of working in an accounting office. The drama, the life and death situations, the real problems when the breakroom runs out of coffee. It’s just go, go, go all day.

  • JLM

We’ve all just been punk’d, right?

  • Liver

You know, I feel like Kutcher has some good ideas for shows, but they just never actually end up being watchable.

  • Ap

Like anyone needs to be reminded how bad the DMV is. I’m actually surprised the state is allowing the filming to happen.

  • HelloThere

Sounds like the gayest show ever.

  • annie

I like Ashton, he’s a doll! But a show about the DMV, sounds boring.

  • Erica

He should come out with a show about bad haircuts.

  • Jay

The DMV sucks the life out of you when you are there… do we really need a reality show of it to suck the life out of us from home?

  • Basil Jones

Really? Am I the only one that thinks that the quality of shows on TruTV has gome severely down hill since it changed its name from CourtTV? I mean they have five shows about repo alone and now they want to do a show about the DMV, which is one of the least exciting places in the world. That’s just sad. As for Ashton Kutcher, I find everything he touches unwatchable. That includes Demi Moore. I can’t remember the last time I saw her in a movie.

Maybe they feel that the latest set of courtroom cases and trials made for boring programming, so they put on the repo reality shows to jack the lackluster and low ratings up. I think that they’re really changed since they switched from Court TV to TruTV by getting on that reality show bandwagon. And the repo shows are awful, foul and exploitative! They let that Mark Burnett reality show ratings gold formula go to their heads too much.

Asston should come out with a show about midlife crises in horny women that make them turn into pedophiles – he could interview his own squeeze and film her and her ugly daughters and Broose peering at them thru the windows late at night.

  • dee-dee

Will Patty & Selma be in it?

    • Selma

Some days we don’t let the line move at all, it’s called a weekday

  • Lari

I renew my tags by mail just to avoid the DMV… watching 30 minutes of it on TV? I’d just as soon watch the channel that features paint drying or grass growing… which may be Ashton’s next, greatest idea.

  • Mad Dog

Hollywood needs to quit giving Ashton projects to do. We really do not want to see him on TV. He definitely is not funny and is not worth what he is getting paid for the show.

  • LAZeeGurl

Haha! Not a bad idea actually– I think the DMV is quite funny. There are so many characters in there. Last time I was there, I could not stop laughing at people and their costumes, attitudes, and lack of common sense! Ashton is cute. :)
