Alexander Skarsgard lovers, your prayers have been answered: HBO has picked up a fifth season of True Blood.
The pay cabler has ordered 12 more episodes of the drama from Alan Ball that’s based on Charlaine Harris’ mega-popular Sookie Stackhouse novels. The fifth season will bow next summer.
“I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers,” said Ball in a statement. “I can’t imagine having more fun than this.”
The fourth season premiere of True Blood on June 26 matched its series high performance of 5.4 million viewers. It also improved upon its season 3 debut by 6 percent. The current season ends Sept. 11.
In an interview with EW earlier this year, Ball said the show has “a lot of life in it.” “I love doing it and I don’t really have any plans of doing anything else right now,” Ball said. He also has plenty of material to cull from Harris’ book series. “She said there will be a total of 13 novels, and she’s publishing 10 or 11. If we did do 13 seasons I believe we would have to address why are the vampires aging.”
True Blood will vie for four Emmys next month, including one for Outstanding Guest Actress (Alfre Woodard).

How about they spin her off in her own show instead. If it doesn’t work, how that is possible I don’t know, they can always bring her back.
When the writer said “Alexa Skarsgard lovers” she wasn’t implying that everyone only loves Alex. She was referring to how adoring and at times obsessed some fans can be, in this case Alex fans, and how they were probably on their knees hoping to see Alex on another season on TB.

I am not surprised by this great news. ‘True Blood’ is one of the best series on pay and commercial televisioin. I wish, the series would stay on for 2 hours weekly, instead of one hour.

Uh, I don’t like the show myself, never got into it tried but it just isn’t for me. But it isn’t respected “because it’s on HBO” that’s f*cking stupid. Cause if thats true then shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Entourage, Sex an the City, Treme, Bored to Death and Curb Your Enthusiasm were all liked only cause they aired on HBO And it’s definitely not Twilight for grownups, Twilight has been all about being abstinent while True Blood has a lot to do about sex with vampires. But what ur saying is that any vampire related film/tv show is a Twilight knockoff. Is copallas Dracula a darker Twilight? No.

holy crap.. 13 books!! well i just read #10 so that makes me kind of sad that it will end.. but i am super excited for the show to come back next year! whoo hoo!!

All her books suck. She has the writing skill of a third grader. Though I do give her props for a vivid imagination (Bubba notwithstanding).
Actually the last book was a slight improvement, though both just seemed tossed together to meet a contractual obligation.
Love that it got renewed and I think this season as been the best yet. An enemy of vampires that can actually fight them on their level and beyond, WAY to wonderful a plot. Keep up the good work HBO and TRUE BLOOD folks!
Alex is literally the ONLY thing about the show I am still watching. Thank god they invented fast forward!
I am I love with this show! But I must say that it would best of it ended next year. 5 years is great but I don’t want it to end on a bad note. It would be horrible if we had another bad season (I’m looking at you season 3)

Can’t wait to see how they amp things up in season 5. The fifth book is probably my least favorite in terms of exciting plot. I love all the additions they’ve made to the fourth book. they have truly made a great story even better. they have there work cut out for them next season.

This season’s finale will be 57 minutes of all of the characters just pooping. The poop is obviously a metaphor for gross intolerance that vampires face (which itself is a metaphor for the gay civil rights movement.) Each character will have to struggle through the hardship of dropping a deuce and how it affects them both physically and mentally. It will probably be one of the best character studies of this television season.

They do have blood “flowing” in them. The cry blood and they bleed when injured. People drink their blood too.

We’re getting closer to that EW article, “True Blood signed for last season.” Not because of being cancelled but I can’t imagine Alan Ball going past season 7.

I really love this show I got hook on the second season the and I went back to the frist and I have watched it since I love TB I am reading all the books now I can’t wait till season 5
