Wondering if Benjamin Bratt will return to Modern Family this season? You can bet on it. EW has learned that Bratt’s Javier — ex-husband of Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and absentee father of Manny (Rico Rodriguez) — will spend a day at the races with the Pritchett-Delgado clan. In an episode airing this fall, “Jay (Ed O’Neill) feels possessive of Manny for the first time and wonders what he’s allowed to do and what he isn’t as his step-dad,” hints exec producer Christopher Lloyd. “The [racetrack] backdrop becomes kind of a competition between Jay and Javier for Manny.” Modern Family returns to ABC for season 3 on Sept. 21.

Loved his last appearance on Modern Family…you could definitely see how he and Gloria would’ve been a couple…hot!
I just hope poor Jay doesn’t end up sitting on the curb with a sad look again, waiting for Javier to pick him up.
Jay will pull Manny out of school and take him to the track like his father did as a bonding experience, and Javier will already be there working his usual angles. When Manny displays an uncanny ability to pick the winners, Jay tries to prove Javier’s only paying attention to his son because he’s making him money. In the short-term, he’ll be proven wrong, but in the long-term he’ll be right and Manny will see that.
Have always loved Benjamin Bratt. I try to watch all of his shows. Love and watch Modern Family anyway. Will be sure not to miss this episode.
Modern Family has done an awesome job on the Jay/Manny stepdad/stepchild relationship. In the beginning, Jay found Manny to mostly be an embarrassment but they’ve grown to have a great deal of mutual respect and love. It’s subtle and you have to look for the evolution, but it’s wonderful.
