'MasterChef' ratings rise, top 'Bachelor Pad'

ABC and Fox’s reality shows continued to battle it out Monday night — and, once again, food beat romance.

Fox had its highest-rated summer Monday in four years, with Hell’s Kitchen (6.8 million viewers, 2.8 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) and MasterChef (6 million, 2.4) dominating the evening. Hell’s was steady with last week, while MasterChef climbed 4 percent as the show presented its final four.

The second week of Bachelor Pad (6.3 million, 2.1) dipped 9 percent in the ratings with a two-hour show compared to last week’s three-hour mega premiere.

MasterChef is an amazing show and I can’t wait to see a third season!

  • Lee

Good for MasterChef. Terrific show! In some ways, I like it better than Top Chef because I like the format better. I like how they have mystery boxes that lead to team captains that lead to “the losing team will battle it out with someone going home.” IMO, Gordon Ramsey is a much better judge on MasterChef than Kitchen.

    • Em

Agree. Plus I have to come to like all the judges on MC while TC just got Lagasse to replace Bourdain and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Don’t forget everybody, TC:Just Deserts is premiering next week on Bravo. Hope it’s as entertaining as last year (Seth) and hope EW does recaps again.

      • Joey

Oooh! TC: Just Deserts. I can’t wait for the Sahara!

  • amy

Says a lot about Americans! Maybe we like gourmet food more than sex? lol Never saw what the big deal was anyway! lol

    • Em

If you watched the show last night, MC seems to be a big, big hit across the world with different masters for each country, so it’s not just Americans. I think they said in France it is the most watched show period whenever it is on tv.

  • Fez

Those ratings are both stunning and amazing!

    • Gina

You need to get out more Fez! Lol

    • orville

No Fez…*The MOST* stunning….*The MOST* amazing…. Makes you wonder if he has anything in his vocabulary for when something really is “The most amazing” something or other.

      • Em

        Weird comment.

      • orville

Em, have you ever listened to Gordon Ramsey on MasterChef (or any of his shows, really)? Everything is *The MOST* amazing, stunning, delicious, etc. etc. etc. Tonight, so far, it’s been *The MOST* amaaaazing chicken.

    • bootsycolumbia

Fez, don’t forget “most sumptuous” and “most incredible”!

      • Melissa in CA

        … and occasionally GORGEOUS!! LOL!

  • Lauren

I have a feeling Bachelor Pad’s ratings will keep falling the longer Kasey and Vienna stay on the show. Those 2 are the worst!!

  • Melanie

I love Masterchef. I agree with Lee that Ramsey is a better judge on this show than on Hell’s Kitchen. But I really like both shows. Maybe ABC will stop with these Bachelor/Bachelorette shows!

  • angel

Im glad Master Chef is doing good. Last years Master chef was not as good due to the way contestants were kicked out. This year’s format is much better.

  • juli

what about the ratings for SyFy shows?

  • EmilyAnn

Funny, I turned off my TV last night because I was sick of Gorden’s foul mouth in Hell’s Kitchen. The constant beeping of his words does nothing at all for the show. Bachelor Pad is just creepy. Reading a book in bed was divine.

    • sly

you should try watching Master Chef – I’m not a big Hell’s Kitchen fan exactly for the same reason (he’s beyond mean to these people!) but he’s the nice one on Master Chef – there’s no yelling or berating and since the contestants are just everyday people, I find the contestants are less trying to please the judges and kow-towing to them.

    • T2

It’s not just him on HK, it’s the contestants. Yes, I said ‘contestants’. It’s very apparent that some were cast for the show, and have no cooking experience.
All of the bleep bleeping is just a waste of time.

    • Annon

Yes, Gordon gives me a headache sometimes but he’s still good tv, pretty hot, and i’d love to eat at any of his restaurants.

  • EmilyAnn

I do like Master Chef, too, but again, Ramsey’s foul mouth just ruins it. for me. It is an unnecessary distraction for the poor contestants as well as the viewing audience.

    • krash

Well, goodness gracious my stars-and-garters, foul language!

  • Shane

Its because of Christian! He is hot hot hot!!!!!
I loved the first season and am loving the second season. MC has been much better than Hell”s Kitchen the past two years. Its almost impossible to find a “character” on HK to root for these past two years.

    • Kio

Ewwwww!!!! I hate Christian’s attitude and he’s a stay-at-home dad, nothing hot about that. My vote’s for Adrian.

      • yepyep

im with Kio Adrian got the better attitude and I think the better skills.
Also another Ramsey show worth taking a look at, is Gordon’s great escape.

      • PianoStace713

I really hate Christian too. He adds nothing to the show like they think he does. I was really surprised they let Suzy go and not him. She had the better tasting pie, so she should have stayed and Christian should have gone. He’s just TOO cocky to even be fun to watch. At least he was a little nervous last night!

    • bootsycolumbia

Christian is hot?!? Seriously, the guy is such an arrogant jacka$$ that I don’t find him attractive in the slightest. Even taking into account the fact that reality shows exaggerate a lot of the contestants’ behavior, I still find him pretty much a total tool. Added to that, I don’t think he won too many of the challenges. Adrian has won more challenges, he seems like a nice guy, he’s cute and he doesn’t bad mouth the other contestants. I’d much rather see him or Jennifer win.

  • Em

I agree re HK. Down to what, 8 and I still haven’t found one to root for. Too many incompetents. Seems like a season or so back the losers would have been eliminated by now and we could start watching some real cooking, but now it’s all about GR screaming bloody murder. I love him on MC and I have to say all the judges are pretty damn cool on that show.

    • T2

      Elise must die.

      • Em

        Say what?

  • Szewczyk

  • its me

I like both shows, people forget the meaning of Hell’s kitchen though, he is supposed to make it the worse place to work to see who can stand the heat in the kitchen. In all his other shows he isnt nowhere near as mean as he is in Hell’s kitchen.

  • Kevin

Kids today need dads like Gordon Ramsay!
