'The Office': Stephen Collins, Dee Wallace to guest as...

7th Heaven patriarch Stephen Collins is stopping by The Office.

Collins (No Ordinary Family) tweeted earlier today that he’s doing a spot on the show, adding the cast is a “ridiculously fun & talented group, including @Rainnwilson who I worked w/in his 1st job in ’89 in the Park.” The actor will play Andy Bernard’s (Ed Helms) father on the show.

And who will play Andy’s mom? EW can exclusively report that role goes to Dee Wallace (E.T, Sons & Daughters).

The news comes on the heels of EW learning that The Office is looking to keep the much-discussed manager post in the family. See that interview with Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein and new boss James Spader here.

I can totally see him as Andy’s dad. Yay Eric Camden!

  • Monty

Andy is going to be the new boss. Bet on it.

    • Isembard

Nah, it’s Darryl. I think even the new Robert California spot with the suited-up Darryl is a clue that he’s the man.

      • Dave

I really hope its not Darryl. He’s an okay character, but I really don’t need to see any more of him than I already do. They’ve already expanded his role more than enough.

  • Brett

But we already saw andys parents in season 4. Curse these continuity errors, this is supposed to be a documentary!

  • tracy bluth

Remember, Andy was originally named after his father…but then his parents decided his brother made a better Walter Jr.

  • CJ

Does everyone remember that we already saw Andy’s parents on the episode where he proposed to Angela at the carnival in the parking lot, when he busted up Jim’s plan to propose to Pam?

    • Isembard

Good point!! I’d forgotten that. Kind of like Pam’s mom Version 1.

    • Keith

That was Ed Helms’ real parents in a cameo

    • tnsmoke

But we also saw Pam’s Mom in Season One and it was not Linda Purl, who showed up later at Jim and Pam’s wedding.

    • RR

Yeah, which shows how empty the show has become. No ideas. Pam’s mom 2.0 HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH PAM. The first mom was entirely realistic and I bought it.

The second mom was just there to manufacture tension between Michael and Pam, and to give up a ridiculous conclusion, the stupid slap.

You’re acting like The Office is the only show to ever recast a parent when they decide to expand the character. Lots of shows have done it, it doesn’t mean anything.

  • jk

I just wonder if Andy’s band will perform for Andy’s parents. This would give Andy the opportunity to point out that he has a non white friend several times.
Wait that’s more of a Michael thing, but it wouldn’t be a big reach for Andy to do such a thing.

Don’t care who new manager will be. Long live The Office!!!!!

    • newman

The Office is already dead. Has been for about three years now. Time to haul this old dead horse off to the glue factory.

  • jrs

Oh, the nard-dog’s parents! I can’t wait. I think Andy has become my favorite character on that show. Ed Helms is so good!!!!!

  • Retro

Cool, I always thought Dee Wallace is an incredibly under utilized actress.

    • HI

+1. Good to see her on back on tv.

  • jj

Wow this new era of the office is really bringing on some worthy guest stars. Dee Wallace, uh, yeh, I think I remember her from that one popular movie she was in back when I was 12. Umm, Stephen Collins, yeh, vaguely remember him from various shows I’ve never watched. What a coup for The Office.

    • Tim

What’s your problem troll? It’s not stunt casting, they are actors.

      • RR

Sure, because inviting Jim Carrey, Ray Romano, etc. toe end the last season is not stunt casting. How about Jack Black and Jessica Alba? Yeah, the office is above that.

      • Tim

Exactly. This is not a case of stunt casting.

  • tomm

Cool, Andy maybe met ET when he was a kid!

  • Bill Shakes

Though, mind you, she also starred in “Cujo”…

  • Jess

Considering how awesome he is as Dennis and Dee’s dad on It’s Always Sunny, I think he’s going to be GREAT.

  • Tim

    I love Dee Wallace!

    • Jeremy

Me, too. She is always excellent in everything she’s in, even if what she’s in is not excellent.

  • Josh

Remember when The Office refused to have face guest stars? I miss those days :(
