Forgive me. Are these tears in my eyes? Indeed, they are, but they come only from the pure joy as CW confirms to EW that two Buffy alums — Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters — will be guesting in the fifth episode of Supernatural this season. But who will they play?
Husband and wife… with a twist!
Marsters will play a man whose scorned wife (Carpenter), who is also a witch, is taking her anger out on the entire town in the episode, titled “Shut Up, Dr. Phil,” according to TV Line.
This will mark the first time Carpenter, best known for her run as Cordelia on the former WB show, and Marsters, who played Spike, have shared a scene together since their days on Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off, Angel.
Supernatural returns for it’s seventh season Sept. 23.

EW squee bomb dropping in 3…2…1..
So excited for Cordy!!
SPIKE!!
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. My life is a little empty without a weekly dose of Spike awesomeness. I was never a big Cordelia fan though.
See now I’m thinking about actually watching this show.. Cool
Hey, Dash – did u see James Marsters in Torchwood episode Kiss Kiss Bang Bang?
I happen to like both of them (I really dug James’ guest shot on Hawaii 5-0) but the show right now is pretty awful. Adjust expectations accordingly.
Spike and Cordy Married! LOL
I am so taping that episode.
I would have preferred Spike and Drusilla; Juliet Landau over Carpenter here, but this should be amusing enough to watch live, lol.
If you’ve ever heard Juilet Landau’s true voice, it is very sweet. She would have made that casting perfect.
They didn’t share too many scenes together on Buffy or Angel.
My thoughts exactly. Can’t really call this a reunion. Both shared more scenes with guest stars than with each other. They were never even regulars during the same seasons of either show. In fact, James basically replaced Charisma twice.
I never really thought of it as him replacing her. I really think that the last season of Angel was the best one because they added Spike. His relationship with Angel was always so interesting, such a love-hate bromance heavy on the hate.
Cordy was only in the one episode (“Thank You”) during the time Spike was on Angel, and most of her scenes were with Angel. I think they only had one scene together, when Spike bit her, and then briefly when Spike was fighting off zombies so Angel and Cordy could go after Lindsay. Still, genius casting.
But Spike also guest-starred in the first season of Angel, and Cordy was in that episode as a regular.
Epic Awesomeness!!
Just another reason to love Supernatural! Can’t wait for it to be back.
eek!! love!!! <3
Outstanding!
I’ve never watched Supernatural, but I won’t miss the episode with Marsters and Carpenter.
Yes, these two are a huge draw for anyone that loves supernatural/monster related shows. I suspect that after watching the one episode you will probably stick around for more Supernatural. This is my favorite show on T.V. since Buffy and Angel and the Winchester boys have this uncanny ability to keep you watching. You’ll love it!
I am so with you on this. “Buffy” is my all-time favorite show and “Supernatural” is my current favorite. When “Buffy” & “Angel” ended, I never thought I’d find another show in the same genre that I’d love as much, but SN is terrific!
While Supernatural is off for the summer I watched all the seasons of Torchwood and much to my pleasant surprise the actor that plays Spike has been on it a few times. It’s a good series and better with a little “Spike” to it!
Totally agree, it’s my favorite show too! I also own the entire dvd set for each season Supernatural Rocks !
I don’t watch Supernatural either, but I might have to watch and get my kumbaya-yas out.
I so agree with you. This will make me so nostalgic for the good old days of Buffy.
Im wattching this ep just for them
Ah, 2 of my BUFFY favorites! I guess I’m watching Supernatural that night.
I may have to watch Supernatural for the first time.
@Alice – I may have to watch for the first time as well. These two were definitely two of my favs. This is awesome casting!
Definitely watching this ep!
Never watched Supernatural but I’m DEFINITELY tuning in for this!
Same, never seen the show but will certainly be tuning in for this! Currently enjoying re-watching Buffy and Angel on Netflix.
The episode in Buffy’s 7th season when Spike deals with his mommy issues is literally one of my favorites in the entire series. James Marsters was excellent at being both a poetry writing softy and a Principal Wood beating badass. I think I’m going to go watch that episode right now!
Why exactly is James marsters not a huge tv star with his own show? I thought for sure he was headed that direction.
@ Ames, I don’t know!!!! I’ve always thought he was good enough to hold his own show. I like to think it’s just because he hasn’t found the right role yet. I can’t really see him being in some kind of legal/cop drama and that’s really all there seems to be lately. I don’t think he would be well used in a comedy because he does dramatic so well. I would watch a show that he was the lead in!
Tears in my eyes, too.
