It takes a strong Grey’s Anatomy fan to follow creator Shonda Rhimes on Twitter. She’s a clever woman with enough vague teases to send any hardcore fan into a “Why isn’t it September yet!?!?” rage. Exhibit A, a tweet sent yesterday about an upcoming episode of hit drama: “Table read for the all boys episode of Grey’s Anatomy was hilarious!!!”
An “all”-what? Not that I’d personally complain about an all-beef episode, but her tweet certainly made me curious about the specifics. If you were too, read on.
Apparently, the episode, which will be the fourth of the new season, will be told from an “all male” perspective — meaning voiceovers, usually done by Meredith, will be done by [spoiler alert] newbie chief Owen, Derek, Alex, and the other male cast members. And not to worry, a source adds that the women of Grey’s also appear in the episode.
Additionally, I’m told the hour will center around a disaster that takes place a Comic-Con-type convention, complete with some costumed victims. Considering the adventures team EW had at Comic-Con, I’m rather looking forward to this one. Agreed?

As long as they don’t do another musical episode, I’m good. What a piece of poo that was!
hahah amen to that!
Doogie Howser is going to make a special appearance to help boost rating soon.
AMEN. AMEN, AMEN! that was absolutely the worst show EVER!!!
hahaha Doogie Howser
I disagree… I may be the only one, but I thought the musical episode was really good!
Not just you. I liked it and my “doesn’t go onto chat boards” dude friend liked it, too.
I really liked the musical episode as well.
So did I. I thought it was worth it just to hear Sara Ramirez belt out that last song. I don’t know why people can’t just go along for the ride when shows like this try something different. Maybe it wasn’t the best episode ever, but it was entertaining.
I not only loved the singing episode, I DVR’d it and have watched it again and again! LOVED IT
I liked the musical episode too! An all men of Grey’s Anatomy episode get out the chocolate. Where’s the “Men of Grey’s Anatomy” calendar that’s what I want to know.
I loved the musical episode!!!!
You’re definitely not alone. Both my husband and I loved it and watched it three times. It was one freakin’ episode… can’t people just suspend disbelief. It was fun and moving.
i liked the musical…i thought it was fun. i really enjoyed hearing sara ramirez sing.
you’re so right about that – it was really way too much!
Hum, pretty much every show that use voiceovers have done it (Desperate Housewives several times); it seems gimmicky. If the story is good, however, I’ll still watch it.
um, did I miss a post about Owen being named the new chief? has it been announced? would have liked a spoiler alert on that front!
I’ve added one. I’m sorry you didn’t get a warning!
Doesn’t count as a spoiler alert when the words spoiler alert are immediately followed by the spoiler because by the time your brain processes that it is a spoiler alert, you have already read the spoiler.
Look forward to this, t will be nice to see it from their presepective for once.
I’m looking forward to this!
really…spoiler alert….., if you don’t want to be spoiled. DON”T check spoiler related websites and DON’T click on articles related to possible spoilers
I like when they have other people do the voice overs and get to see their view-point. I remember one with Christina that was really good and the Callie one (even if you didn’t love the musical aspect) was really good too. Or I think the ones where Meredith died for an episode (ferry crash) and there were no voice overs. I like when it switches it up a little. It is a subtle way to revive things.
The male characters are not interesting enough to carry an entire hour. I remember the episode which was half all-guys – the camping trip… a snoozer. An all-female episode (or several) is what we need to see. The ladies are the show’s strength.
Unless you have missed the whole series, the show is usually told from a woman’s POV. So yeah, an all boys POV is a breath of fresh air.
No, The women are more interesting than the men. Mark is pointless (not to mention ED is a bad actor). Owen is all angst and no fun. Derek is fine but doesn’t really work without Meredith.
I agree. The male characters are mostly boring and have no real depth. Owen does nothing but scream, Jackson and Mark barely do anything at all and I wouldn’t even notice if Derek was gone.
Not really interested in watching Owen’s perspective on anything but meh.
What happened to Derek and Mark? They were at least funny…
Well, it’s an “All-boys-episode”, not an “All-Owen-episode”, Mark and Derek will be there, if you read the whole article.
Hating just for the sake of hating is not really mature, by the way.
It’s not all all-boys episode if any of the girls appear in it. Besides, I hope Shonda and the writers aren’t so low on plot ideas that they have to resort to such stupid gimmickry.
Shonda Rhimes is capable of making a killer all boys episode. Will she? We’ll have to wait to see. The last time I remember seeing an all boys medical episode of any hospital type show was an absolutely stellar episode of M*A*S*H where they had some critical surgeries to attend. The writing was spectacular and the acting was so powerful that I remember feeling just spent at the end of that special episode.
Whatever. This show is really not that good. With the exception of the second half of season 6, this show hasn’t been good since season 2. This show is really only one step above any old soap opera.
Trolling?
Was there an actual story here?
maybe a circle jerk episode? I see the chief winning.
I hope if it is all guys, it’s watchable. Most of the time, I find myself daydreaming and not caring.
