Leave it to Secretary‘s Maggie Gyllenhaal to ask the most provocative question on Discovery’s new series Curiosity. On this Sunday’s episode (for mature audiences), the star of the stimulating upcoming film Hysteria hooks up with experts to find out why sex is fun. For a tease, watch our two exclusive clips below. In the first, she narrates an experiment in which scientists are studying brain activity during a female orgasm. “Inside this MRI machine, she’s about to give herself an orgasm in the name of science,” Gyllenhaal says. Thirty different areas of the brain light up when she finally succeeds. In the second clip, she narrates an experiment by a biological anthropologist at Penn State who concludes that women report more frequent orgasms with men of “high genetic quality,” which could mean the female orgasm functions as an incentive for women to select sexual partners with good genes in case they procreate.
Other upcoming episodes of Curiosity will find Robin Williams studying the effect of drugs on our bodies, Samuel L. Jackson surveying how the world might end, Brendan Fraser digging deep to uncover what really lies beneath Egypt, Morgan Spurlock seeing if living as a primitive caveman would actually improve our health, MythBusters' Adam Savage testing if we can really live forever, and Dirty Jobs' Mike Rowe revealing the hidden organisms that call our bodies home.

Sex is one of many reasons why my husband and I are still together and happily married. Marriage, in my experience, takes work. A lot of work.
I think my husband taught me a lot about inner beauty and confidence in myself. I’m slim but voluptuous. I’ve got curves and a large bust but it seemed that men were more interested in my chest than my personality. My exes seemed obsessed with my cleavage. They were always going on about my breasts, and in bed they practically worshipped them, while I wished they concentrated their attention elsewhere.
My husband’s in love with the person inside of me, and the outside of me is just a bonus. I feel better—so much better now than I ever did in my twenties. I know who I am. And as a result, I feel much sexier.
You sound…..delish! Good for you!
She wore a pe@rl necklace.
Man, Maggie G is looking B A D. She was kinda cute in Donnie Darko, took a 180 into ickville with The Dark Knight, and now…..no thanks. I’ll pass on that.
Yes, yes. I’m sure you’re a wonderful woman with a lovely personality. But… can I Motorboat you now, or what? (sorry… just being cheeky!)
yummy
Wow. This is so interesting!! Is this program available in Canada?? I want to watch. Everyone is curious about the taboo but nobody wants to talk about it because it’s “uncomfortable”. But the truth is, we’re all so curious about these topics but no one wants to admit it. I think Canada is much more open about taboo topics such as sex. Hey, 1 Girl 5 Gays (Logo TV) is filmed in Toronto! They answer all sorts of questions about love, sex and marriage. They explore and discuss topics the rest of us wouldn’t dare talk about– on national television.
Couldn’t the producers of this show find someone “hotter” than Maggie Gyllenhaal for a show about orgasms?
I take that back. That was a big mean.
“bit” mean.
Sorry.
I’m not surprised he doesn’t know…
I wonder if Maggie has ever been overweight and lost weight too fast because she’s too young for her skin on her face to be saggy. It’s been that way for awhile.
Well if her brother wasn’t such a hottie, we wouldn’t be dissing her looks!
This seems like a really interesting show. Can’t wait for Sunday!
Why is sex fun? Well, I have always liked younger men. I have never dated or had sex with anyone older than me – it hasn’t been a conscious choice, just a fact. I love their youthful energy, it makes me feel young. Not that I am old – really, 35 isn’t, and society is more accepting of cougar relationships these days.
So beware guys the cougars are on the loose – and if they lure you in you might just be in for the best ride of your life.
Were the producers going for the least sexiest famous person they could get so as to emphasize the science of the show? Buscemi wasn’t available?
Maybe some religious zealots figured out a new way to take all the fun out of it.
My mother had a full time caeerr and I would NEVER had it any other way. I always felt loved. In fact, her firm wanted to send her on a six month assignement to Africa, but she chose not to go (due to me being only seven at the time). As I got older, I actually resented that decission. I imagined the stories she could have come back with When I see women who live only to breed, I feel sorry for them. My sister in law is a stayathomemom. Her kids spend most of their lives in front of the TV, while she is on the phone talking to her girlfriends about the challenges of motherhood Pathetic
Anyone saying Maggie Gyllenhaal isn’t hot hasn’t seen “Secretary”.
That was many moons ago…
Oy vey. It sounded interesting when they first announced the show but now its just stupid. They ran out of episodes almost immediately.
Agree, first episode had Steven Hawking talking about the creation of the universe. The next one was some silly crap about the response to an alien invasion. The third one is going to be about sex. Wonder what the fourth one is going to be about, probably rural mail delivery in South Dakota.
Two ironies: Maggie is a deeply beautiful woman vs all you shallow people. Second: on a show about truth, they applied so much makeup to her face the genuine person’s true face is masked.
Too bad.
I’m sure he has a great personality, too.
LEAVE MAGGIE ALONE!
Judging by her face she is what I would call a woman with a “great personality”
Are you kidding me? Maggie Gyllenhaal is probably wayyy more beautiful than all of you idiots. Its kind of sad that your standards for celebrities are set so high but you probably have none for the girls you bring home…
LEAVE CELEBRITIES ALONE!
Celebrities are held to higher standards because they ask to be.
She looks 80!
