Jeez, how many celebrity family members does Andy Bernard have?

After we reported that 7th Heaven patriarch Stephen Collins and ET mom Dee Wallace will play the parents of Ed Helms’ character the other day, it turns there’s another casting waiting in the wings: Singer Josh Groban will play Andy’s brother during an episode in the upcoming eighth season where his family comes to visit.

The news comes on the heels of EW learning that The Office is looking to keep the much-discussed manager post in the family. See that interview with Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein and new boss James Spader here.

This just screams duet. Make it happen!

      Brilliant!

Josh Groban; The Years of Golden Cheese Vol 5

    • kate middleton

Totally – you KNOW there will be a song.

    • Jmo

And you know poor Ed Helms will be overcasted by his brother. Wouldn’t be funny if Groban starts picking up on Erin? Out-singed and out-wooed.

  • JJ

Damn, I was hoping he’d be playing Andy’s friend Broccoli Rob

    • Nick

      Josh looks like a troll.

    • chldr

      now THAT would be awesome.

  • Matt

Enough with the celebrity guest appearances. This is supposed to be a show consisting of unknowns (thus making it more realistic and more akin to actual office life).

    • Karen

I’m with you Matt. I appreciate an occasional celeb cameo, but I don’t want The Office to turn into a circus sideshow of famous faces.

      • Carole

Agree with Matt and Karen…a little disappointed with all the guest stars….and I really don’t care for Josh…..

    • Little comment

Ah, Josh Groban, with hits like “You Raise Me Up” and…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

      • Noodley

Just because his songs don’t fit within the top 40 genre doesn’t mean he hasn’t been immensely successful. He’s sold nearly thirty million records and has the best selling Christmas album of all time.

      • WHAT THE EFF

“Top 40″ does not denote good music, and neither does selling a lot of records. This dude makes terrible music. That is all.

      • chldr

if you don’t like it DONT WATCH IT- josh is incredibly talented. his singing career is NOT over! he’s just VERY funny. get over it, and enjoy the show. c’mon..people..show a little love.

      • Michael Scott

Josh is soo talented that he is being featured as a guest “star” on a second rate knock off of a once great show. Next thing he will be on Match Game smoking Lucky Strikes with Charles Nelso Reiley….

        BOOM! Roasted

    • ELLE

WTF showrunners..we saw Andys parents in the season 5 finale when he proposed to Angela i hope a character comments on how different andys parents look! and by the way in survivor man episode meredith orders cake and shes effing lactose intolerant these last 2 seasons have been sloppy as hell. Im boycotting.

    • Michael Scott

I used to really like this show. Every headline I read on EW just makes me hate what its becomming more and more. 1 season more, tops, then its cancelled.

    • Faith

I totally agree, The Office has become a bunch of guest stars because the producers know that nothing can fully replace Steve Carell and the original cast. Moving on to Carell movies and Parks&Rec, ftw!

      • tnsmoke

Fine, no one is making you watch it. I am looking forward to the new faces interacting with the regulars. NEW faces can be an occasional “star”, it has never hurt 30 Rock.

  • jrs

I cannot wait to see more of Andy’s family!

  • Mandy

This is PERFECT! Obviously Groban plays Andy’s more successful, more talented brother. Halirious! I so hope he serenades Erin!

  • Pslightly Psycho

Groban is actually a very funny guy. You should check him out on TIM AND ERIC’S AWESOME SHOW, GREAT JOB! singing “Casey” tunes. Hilarious.

    • V

Check him out singing Kanye West’s tweets as well. Hysterical!

  • Ben

Cool casting. Definitely calls for a musical number.

  • jacob

Andy is so the new manager.

  • kim in kentucky

PLEASE don’t make Andy the new manager – disaster in the making – unless that’s what they’re shooting fore

  • Me

The Office blows now. No amount of special guest stars can save it. They should have cancelled it a few years ago.

    • Tom Bergeron

      You are an idiot

      • Jillian

I thought his name was Josh Grogan? Who’s Josh Grogan?

  • Josh

I hate all this stunt casting…The Office use to have a policy to never do stunt casting!

    • Tory

But now the cast themselves, including Steve Carrell, are major stars in their own right, kind of like Glee. Not really stunt casting anymore, but one big celebfest.

  • bobby

his singing career has failed and now he’s trying to be an actor.

    • ESPE

Are you serious?! His singing career has most certainly not failed. He is currently in the middle of a huge international concert tour. If by failed you mean hundreds of thousands of people (possibly millions?) loving his music and buying his albums then I guess failure isn’t such a bad deal! I myself am excited to see Josh play Andy’s brother, he’s a hilarious guy!

    • Diedra

He is hardly a failure!! I was at his concert in Minneapolis and it was packed!! He has more talent in his little pinky than most of the artists that are featured on the radio these days!!! Sounds like you might be a little jealous!!

  • Tory

Josh has a very dry sense of humor, which is perfect for The Office. And anyone who thinks the show is supposed to be like a real office anymore is insane. Michael would have be slapped with some kind of discrimination lawsuit by the second episode!

  • Christy

I’m not necessarily a fan of Josh’s music, but I find him to be hilarious and pretty charming. He was filling in for Regis once and he was great, and I think he did a thing during the Emmy’s where he sang theme songs and it was hilarious.

  • kczar

This could be good. He guested on Glee as himself and he was pretty funny. With all this casting of Andy’s family, I’m assuming he’ll be the new branch manager.
