MTV to Abercrombie: 'Jersey Shore' diss 'a clever PR stunt'

MTV has fired back at Abercrombie & Fitch after the clothing company offered Jersey Shore‘s The Situation money to not wear its clothes.

“It’s a clever PR stunt,” writes MTV’s Lisa Chudnofsky in a rebuttal posted on the network’s blog, “and we’d love to work with them on other ways they can leverage Jersey Shore to reach the largest youth audience on television.”

She continues:  “Oh, Abercrombie, what kind of snowball hath y’all set in motion? We hate to add to the avalanche of publicity that A&F is currently eating up at the expense of our innocent reality TV icons (who declined to comment because they were too busy getting more famous) — mostly because that was the whole point of this shenanigan, wasn’t it? — but we’re all family here at MTV, and no one messes with our “Situation.” There are plenty of neon sweatpants in the sea of franchised fashion, so we encourage him to take the money. And donate it all to Ed Hardy.”

Then adds:

“Mike, you look better naked anyway.”

There’s an image for you while you eat your Cheerios. You’re welcome.

But it’s not actually true that the cast has been too busy finding new ways to get more popular to respond to the knock. The Situation hit back at Abercrombie yesterday on Twitter. Sitch tweeted a story about the company’s stock dropping 9 percent and wrote “Looks like Abercrombie got themself into a Situation!” (I bet shareholders had simply forgotten they still held Abercrombie stock until the Jersey headlines, then were like, “Wait, why did I buy that again?”).

MTV is retarded, and so is the Jersey Shore. So is A&F, for that matter. Does anyone actually still buy their crap? I thought that trend ended in the 90′s.

    • Jaded

I think middle school kids still wear Abercrombie…

    • Todd

+1 The A&F store stinks up our mall in Memphis, TN. I haven’t stepped foot in that place since I was in high school.

    • Jennifer

A&F used to have nice clothes, but they became all about the ‘youth market’ and started selling the kind of crap that reality wh*res would wear and have been going down hill for the last several years.

    • Nick

Innocent reality show? MTV is on CRACK

  • Heywood Jablome

Someone please put an end to the freakin’ mutants!!

    • Mike Hunt

      Seconded.

      • Nick

Where I live they petitioned the cable company to remove MTV entirely from their lineup of channels. It worked. No more garbage. It’s easy. Try it.

      • @Nick

That’s bigger news than this crapola!

      • @Nick

What an embarrassment that you force everyone in your community not to watch a certain channel. I’m glad I don’t live in your snobby neighborhood.

      • ^

        Haha.
That last guy would probably cry if he can’t have his MTV.

      • Nick

When a company like A and F have to pay you to stop wearing their brand of clothing because you reek of “date rape” (paraphrasing what they told him), just how messed up of a human being must you be??? Just sayin..

    • Steph

I still wonder WHY this show is on. I’ve NEVER watched it. Maybe it’s reasons like this that they’re still famous. People want them gone so much, it keeps them famous.

  • Ashley

It’s Jerzday! I guess Abercrombie corporate employees are getting ready to watch tonight. #situationnation

    • dgh

“Jerzday” please do the world a favor and jump of a bridge!!

      • april

hey monkeyboy, please don’t wear our clothes, we will pay you lots of money.. thanks, a&f

      • Johnny

“Jerzday” is atrocious English, but so is, “…jump of a bridge!!” (It should be, “…jump off a bridge!!”)

  • Templar

A&F is as passe’ as Tommy Hilfiger. Just a ploy to get some press. IMO

    • Ashley

Even though A&F’s popularity has faded a bit, they are no where near as attrocious as Tommy Hilfiger. TH is far more passe.

  • Sarah in Texas

Come on, Entertainment Weekly. It’s = it is.

    • Ashley

I have an English degree and even I get tired of the grammar nazi’s. The entire internet is loaded with errors. Get used to it. It’s almost like people point them out to be like “Look, look. I’m smart!”

      • Abe Froman

        Nazis, not nazi’s.

  • Membery

I see douche seeping out my screen.

  • DetroitPC

I thought that only douchebags wear A&F anyway….

    • Greg

It’s bad when a douchebag clothing line asks someone to stop douching up their image. I didn’t know there was a pecking order of douchebaggery.

  • The World to MTV:

    QUIT AIRING GARBAGE

    • occlifford

i completely agree with this. it’s supposed to be “reality tv” when you can clearly tell that this is all staged to create drama so that people keep watching. the cast of this show is basically what every guido frat dude/sorostitute thinks that life is really like. thinking that you should be the center of attention because you’re the most tan person in the room does not make you cool. let alone how they fight over everything. another reason why i dislike the entire state of new jersey douche bags like this.. (and the fact that you can’t make a damn left turn in the state either..

  • claudenorth

A&F are a bunch of hypocrites. They’ve made millions using homoerotic imagery to sell their clothing, but when the producers of Queer as Folk suggested a product placement deal, A&F turned it down because they didn’t want their products associated with gay people.

  • Jay

Nobody worth a f*ck would ever wear A&F anyway, so its fitting that The Situation wears it

  • Lisa

    hahahahahahahaha thats actually funny!!!!

  • j

People who like either A&F or Jersey Shore are stupid.

  • guodrellit

Who really cares what “The Sick Mutation” wears anyway.

  • nunya

I agree that this is a pretty pathetic PR stunt…if they paid every “douchebag” to NOT wear Abercrombie, then they would be out of business pretty soon.

  • Rob

So the DB’s @ A&B don’t want the DB’s on Jersey Shore to wear their DB clothes?
