'Glee Project' renewal expected, here are season 2 casting details -- EXCLUSIVE

Oxygen is putting the finishing touches on plans to officially start casting for a second season of The Glee Project, with a formal renewal of the reality breakout expected relatively soon-ish.

With ratings for the contest rising throughout its debut season and last night’s finale delivering a crowning preliminary return of 1.2 million viewers, it’s no surprise Oxygen intends to bring back the show. The network dropped casting information notices into the last two episodes of the program, which have yielded nearly 50,000 email requests for more information, according to an insider.

We’re told formal casting will likely start this fall. Unlike the first season, which had two casting calls, season 2 is expected to have four or five open castings around the country. Oxygen is also arranging talent to appear at the castings. (Season 1 castings had Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet.)

One major detail Oxygen might not be able to reveal anytime soon, however, is what the prize will be for the winner of season two. Not one but four Glee Project finalists won roles in the upcoming third season of the Fox hit. But Glee isn’t renewed for a fourth season. (Broadcasters generally don’t renew shows until after the start of the new calendar year.) And as producers on the Glee Project made clear at critics press tour last month, it’s pretty tough to give away a prize appearance on a season that doesn’t officially have a green light. That said, a renewal on Glee Project before Glee is renewed seems like a rather safe bet: Does anybody  expect a pop culture phenomenon like Glee to not continue at least another season?

This is a terrible idea. Glee is going to become a revolving door of sub-par talent to balance off the sub-par plots. Plus, the format of the Glee Project got old and redundant after the 2nd episode. Not looking forward to this (but you know that I’ll watch all the same…)

Interestingly enough, the above comment (in latin) translates almost excatly to “i just wasted 10 seconds of you life”.

        LMAO

Damian could be a freshman, as mentioned in the show. Samuel could be a part of Vocal Adrenaline. Same with Lindsey. Alex could be a member of Mercedes’ church choir.I am an Air Force and single at present .I need a woman who can love me back ..I also uploaded my hot photos on U’niformedM’ate .C óM under the name of flyer212..It’s the largest and best club for seeking Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Police Force, and the admirers of those who wear the uniform.I just hope you don’t mind me being a soldier …Please Check it out!I’m serious.

        Exactly! Blah blah blah…

oh right, I was like why did I waste anything on what that said?

Although I’m hoping ryan murphy sticks to his word in saying that this season is going back to basics (maybe adding some plotlines??), I completely agree with your comment. But of course I’m still going to watch, as are the millions of fans who just want to see the cast do obnoxious covers of top 40 songs every week

Once again milking the cash cow. Didn’t Glee learn anything from their movie? Its amazing how confident the Powers That Be at Glee are that they believe they will survive without Lea Michele. . .and Chris Colfer. That duo has saved the show for me. I’ve spent enough time invested into these characters that they made me stick through S2. I’m not confident Glee will survive without them, and on top of that Cory, Naya, Dianna, Mark, will have their characters graduate. I don’t see why they can’t end Glee after this season and start a spinoff. I hate how RM thinks he “discovered” Lea and Chris, please. Lighting won’t strike in the same place twice, no Lea, no Glee.

    • Ari

I watch the show only for Lea and Cory, tbh. Finn and Rachel better be on the spin-off.

      • Kalleb

Then you don’t really get the whole part of GLEE. Smh.

The Glee Movie tanked because it focused too much on the fan stories and the incredibly annoying Warblers. I can get Darren Criss is a good performer and all but he’s a very mediocre actor. MOREOVER GIVING THE WARBLERS THREE SONGS WHILE THE MAIN LEADS LIKE CHRIS COLFER, MARK SALLING, CORY MONTEITH AND KEVIN MCHALE ONLY ONE SOLOS WERE A TRAVESTY. The Glee fans don’t want to watch a movie about sappy fans stories and The Warblers. They watch for the main cast.

Darren Criss isn’t a mediocre actor, he’s just really poorly written. Being Kurt’s love interest isn’t a personality trail, Ryan Murphy.

This is great news since everybody wins on this show! We ALL can be on Glee!!!!!!

  • Corky

Last night I watched a Godzilla movie on TV.

    • Rachel

Finally a second chance for glee. i will be on Glee

  • tommymommy

I will be there to watch every episode–again!

Ok… so Ryan Murphy says that S3 focus on the CORE cast and depend on the tributes/stunt casting, and get tid of a decent character with Chord’s Sam, and now they add these 4 as well as some “mean girl characters?”… sounds to me like a mess in the making, but I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised. The challenge is there Murphy, deliver it….

  • Milo

This show was such a disappoint and bc love GLEE I gave it a chance. I can’t picture any of the contestants on the show and now I have to see four of them? Lame to have four winners. I hope they don’t run the show for me which is currently my favorite on tv. The best part about the show was seeing the creative team that makes the show fantastic. I hope it stays that way.

    • Simon

Hmmm, you ever consider that these characters will be interacting with the CORE cast. Unless each character gets an individualized storyline -season three WILL be concentrating on the CORE cast.. And btw, when the seniors do graduate -who is going to be left in the choir room? Do you want to know any new faces now -or wait until next year?

  • RCB

Damian could be a freshman, as mentioned in the show. Samuel could be a part of Vocal Adrenaline. Same with Lindsey. Alex could be a member of Mercedes’ church choir.

I’m proud of and happy for all 4 finalists and looking forward to Glee season 3 and Glee Project season 2. These shows are so fun to watch. Another poster fears the GP will water down the original Glee, but I don’t think so. What I liked most about the Glee Project was that it wasn’t a true reality show where the contestants got to eliminate fellow contestants but rather the creative team behind the show were the judges AND deciders on who got eliminated… Yes, I know viewers were invited to vote for a fan favorite, but that’s not the same as voting who gets to stay and who has to go. I think this method helped prevent or at least minimize a lot of infighting among the contestants.

  • JoshP

If the ratings keep dropping. It may be gone.

  • CoachD

They really need to figure out a way to get Cameron on the show! He was our favorite as well as the FAN favorite and he was awesome. His personality had depth and good character.

    • Julia

      THIS ^

  • Captain

How the hell are they going to fill 4 roles? I just don’t see it but alteast it will lessen the new roles they need for Seaosn 4.

  • anonymous

Love Damian! So happy for him. Looking forward to next season of Glee and especially the Glee Project.

OMG -I hate open-ended questions at the end of an entertainment article. It leaves the readers the opportunitiy to criticize more than promote a show. And the writer totally gets off the hook by looking like he/she has remained neutral. That last statement totally gives the audience to once again hate on the show and that is probably exactly what the author of this article wants.
