Jimmy Fallon is headed from late night to… well, slightly earlier in the night.

The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon host will return to his Saturday Night Live roots when he hosts the show on Dec. 17, which will also feature musical guest Michael Bublé. This will be Fallon’s first time as host. “I’ve never forgotten where I came from,” says Fallon in a statement. “That’s why I’m so incredibly honored to be hosting the Saturday Night Times program December 17th on HGTV.”

Fallon, who has hosted Late Night since 2009, left the show in 2004 — thankfully, not before giving us this sketch:

I think he’ll be good. Bu what I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to happen on the upcoming season of SNL is to see Jennifer Larence host!!! You watch any interview with that girl you crack up. I think she might have a hood shot at it too because if The Hunger Games. I’d also love to see Josh Hutcherson :)

Love him also and LOVE his nightly show…which ironically has better sketches than SNL these days.

  • Richard

Does this mean Justin will be back as well? A little History of Rap and Barry Gibb Talk Show, anyone? I guess they need Horatio back as well so they can laugh through a Jeffery’s Sketch as well.

Marking my calendar now! Love Jimmy!!!

This must have been such a hard get for SNL.

  • rey

really? i thought he was still a cast member with all the time he spends on the show and cast members he has as guests.

The only reason Jimmy has so many cast members as guests and pops up in sketches from time to time is because his show is filmed just a few floors down from the SNL studio. Also, his announcer Steve Higgins is a producer for SNL. So, naturally it is rather easy for Jimmy to do these things.

Conan did the same thing when he was across the hall.

What’s the over/under for the number of times he breaks character?

    • Cris

Depends … what’s the over/under for the number of sketches he’s in?

LOVE HIM! His late night show is so funny. I’ll be there to see him on SNL.

I personally know his Dad…I hope he makes a reappearance. Jim sr. is hilarious as well.

This is fantastic, I love Jimmy Fallon. I wondered the same thing as @Richard, if this means Justin Timbelake will make an appearance, then I remembered JT is always making appearances so this will be no different..lol…imagine Tina Fey will pop up at some point too…and they gave him an amazing musical guest in Michael Buble…remember when he was on with Jon Hamm? Their skit was hilarious.

  • shellsncheese

Maybe he can get his best friend for six months, Stephen Colbert to make an appearance, too!

  • tomm

I thought he already hosted SNL before???

  • satirex

They sure do seem to have Buble a lot–are they trying to draw an older audience back in?
