Comic actor Jay Mohr is suiting up for NBC’s cop drama Prime Suspect.

Mohr will be in the show’s first season in a guest appearance that could turn into a recurring role. He’ll play slick New York City assistant district attorney John Bullock — a man considered good at his job, though not exactly on the same wavelength as Maria Bello’s Jane Timoney (but will he wear a hat?).

Mohr most recently starred in the CBS sitcom Gary Unmarried, and before that, was in The Ghost Whisperer for a couple years, and is still remembered for his breakout role in Jerry Maguire. NBC’s Prime Suspect premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. Here’s NBC’s four-minute preview of the show:

Good for you Jay. I hope you can still find time for your podcasts.

    • Jay Mohr

      is under appreciated.

      • What?

I love it when he fills in for Jim Rome. I liked Gary Unmarried, the woman who played his boss/love interest was incredibly HOT, but it was disturbing how much the girl who played his daughter looked like a mini/younger version of her

    Put your name on it!

      Kingfish!

I MISS MY DAUGHTER, JAY MOHRS

  • googie

Great news! I hope he’s a little bad, I always like him more when he’s a little devious!

I do too! I’ve always like him ever since that “Action” tv series. Love it when he’s kinda slimey. I have been SO DEAD SET AGAINST this show because of my beloved Helen Mirrens “Prime Suspect” but I’ve been coming around to wanting to see it. After all, this is NOT going to be a word-for-word “remake”; it’ll more likely be “reminiscent” of (which could be very good indeed).

As long as he still has time for his RHONJ blog, I’m ok with it.

  • Templar

Big fan of his, so I hope the role expands.

  • yam

will he get a better hair piece

  • Jim Rome

Atta boy Slam man! Look at the game tape!

  • Brett

Glad he’s finding work, but this won’t last as long as his last series did.

  • Cyn

Nice. I missed him on Ghost Whisperer after he left.

I like that Jay Mohr is taking a stab at a dramatic role in Prime Suspect. He has been doing comedy shows or sitcoms for years, but it’s good that he’s going for it this fall.

Wasn’t planning on watching this show… now I will! LOVE Jay Mohr! Atta boy Jay Jay!!

  • Lily

    Cannot WAIT for this show.

  • Rod Steel

I was afraid this would be a train wreck, and now I am sure. Did anyone at NBC actually watch the original?

    • moonshake

I agree with you. I don’t think anyone who is considering watching this has. Helen Mirren’s performance as Jane Tennison cannot be topped. I’m not even going to bother watching. This is just an “in name only” series as far as I’m concerned.

      • Peter

I am considering watching this and I have seen the original version.

  • MMJ

I like Jay Mohr, but this is just one more reason NOT to watch this travesty. They may as well change the name of the show because it bears NO RESEMBLANCE at all to the BBC/PBS series. Maybe if I hadn’t seen the original I’d be more inclined to watch this, but more and more it seems like a dumbed-down, actiony version. I love Aiden Quinn, but I won’t be watching.

  • K

This makes me not want to watch.
