For starters, it’s set in 1895. The drama is called Gilded Lillys and it’s by writer K.J. Steinberg (creator The Nine a writer on Gossip Girl). The story is about the fictitious “first true luxury hotel ever built in the city — the family who owns it, the staff who work it, and the people who pass through.”
Gilded Lillys is just a script sale at this point, though any Rhimes production at ABC has a better-than-average chance of making it on the air. It follows up on a trend toward doing shows set in the past, with NBC’s Playboy Club and ABC’s Pan Am set to air this fall (and how well those shows perform could impact the odds of the network moving forward with other ideas like Lillys).
Rhimes will executive produce the ABC Studios production along with frequent collaborator Betsy Beers. Rhimes also, of course, has her new ABC political drama Scandal coming in midseason.
She’s eager to find a replacement for GA/PP now isn’t she!

if it gets made, looks like shonda won’t be writing for it or running the whole ship as she does on GA and PP. but KJ steinberg wrote and create the highly acclaimed, but short-lived the nine and wrote some of amazing gossip girl episodes/some of its best ever. looking forward to this. interesting concept.

ABC already had a TV series about a luxourious and elegant hotel, however set not in the 1880s but 1980s – Arthur Hill’s Hotel! So that’s really a novel idea, Shonda! Well done!
Unlike any series SHE’S ever done before. Some basic reading comprehension might make your snarking less vulnerable to its own criticism.

Now I understand why I dislike the direction Grey’s Anatomy is going: it more about sex (anywhere) and less about a good story! Rhimes mustn’t have a good story to tell if all she gives us is sex. Sexw/love would be a nice diversion.

I actually watched the pilot for a survey and was totally intrigued. And I know I confused things when I said I hate Grey’s Anatomy and I watch Community and 30 Rock. But I loved the pilot episode! Captain Jack from Dr. Who and Torchwood is in it. And it’s kind of an American version of Downton Abbey but with the Carnegys.
