Ken Marino talks 'Party Down' cameo on 'Childrens Hospital.' As for that 'Party Down' movie...

Party time! The cast of Party Down makes a special appearance on tonight’s Childrens Hospital (Adult Swim, 12 a.m. ET). Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr, and Ryan Hansen — along with Ken Marino and Megan Mullally, who already star in Hospital, show up to cater Dr. Glenn Richie’s (Marino) later-in-life Bar Mitzvah.

“I couldn’t believe all the Party Down actors showed up!” Marino marvels to EW over the phone. “I love the guy who plays Ron. He came in. He was kind of a d—, actually, in real life.”

Getting the gang together was awesome, but bittersweet, Marino says. Starz canceled the underrated and woefully under-viewed Party Down after two hilarious seasons. “We had so much fun doing that little scene,” Marino says of tongiht’s Hospital cameo. “And then we were like, goddammit, why is this show not happening anymore?” Another huge disappointment: Marino’s hair. “We had to try to fake my Ron Donald haircut because I had my Glenn Richie haircut,” he says. “It was too long and looked a little ridiculous.”

As for a possible Party Down movie — which Marino called “a go” during the Childrens Hospital panel at July’s Comic-Con — things are looking good. “They’re moving in the right direction,” Marino says. “Nothing’s ‘a go.’ I don’t even know what ‘a go’ is. But I will say this: It looks positive, and it it happens, I’d be thrilled. I know everybody in the cast would too.”

In the meantime, wouldn’t it be great if Ron Donald just opened that Soup R’ Crackers he’s always dreamed of… adjacent to or even inside Childrens Hospital? “You’re blowing my mind,” Marino says. “I’ll pitch it.”

I love(d) Party Down, and how passionate the cast was about it and still is. When I saw tonight’s episode was called ‘Party Down’, I was hoping for such cameos, and they didn’t disappoint!

It’s not truly a “Party Down” reunion. Where is Adam Scott???

    • Liam

He quit in the last episode of the series remember? He started auditioning again so it makes sense he couldn’t be there and this is an in continuity reunion of the characters, not just having all the actors together again.

I loved Party Down but I’m glad it was cancelled so Adam Scott could join Parks & Rec.

Adam Scott joined Parks & Rec before Party Down was cancelled.
Starz have the actors no visibility over the future of the show, while other networks tend to offer multi-season contracts to the cast.
Between the time the episodes were completed and the time they aired, there was an executives shuffle, which gave everybody even less hope that it would be renewed. Ryan Hansen was already cast in a new show. Adam Scott was approached for P&R and decided to join them.
Had a third season of Party Down been green-lit, he would have played in two or three episodes. But the writing was more or less on the wall and the show was officially cancelled one month later.

Love party down. So excited about a possible movie!! Everyone go out and buy the series so they will have more reasons to make the movie!

    • Leslie Knope

Yes! I just bought both seasons at a Super Target for $15 (all together, not each)

I’m still waiting for the Vinnie Van Low movie.

    • Mandy

True that! Or have him appear in the VMars movie that must get made!
Why is Ken Marino always in gems that get cancelled?!?!

  • BHM1304

They need to get Ken Yeong and Ryan Hansen as well.

  • Disappointed

Instead of making a movie, they should just make four episodes and then put it on the big screen. I should be a movie producer.

, you are quoted as the hit as been less than shtnmoieg like 50%. So are you really saying that implementing FB Credits as a payment method only has decreased your earnings by ~50%? That doesn’t sound very good. What would you expect to see if you actually integrated Credits as your hard/premium currency?George

It’s not a true reunion until you get Adam Scott and Jane Lynch!

  • ian

He DID open a SOUP R’ CRACKERS. It failed.

  • Hannah

I agree. It’s going to be a great episode of Children’s Hospital, but it’s NOT going to be the same without Adam Scott and/or even Jane Lynch!!

  • LA

I got both seasons at Target for $13. Totally worth it. Might give as Christmas presents.

So it happens all the time, bring in bueidds, college bueidds, girlfriend, old coworkers, friends of old coworkers. Now, these are the royalties, the cannot be fired and make the other employees the slaves. And no shame, and be confident, and CTO, list Stanford as his school when he went to John Hopkins; of course, he needs self-esteem.
