Cable shows: Hottest program this summer was...

Who cared about broadcast shows like America’s Got Talent or So You Think You Can Dance? Cable programs had no trouble drumming up the eyeballs this summer, which is probably why viewership levels were up year-to-year among ad-supported basic nets like TNT, USA, History and MTV (4 percent) versus what the Big Four broadcasters were attracting (down 3 percent).

Did your favorite ad-supported cable show make the top 10 cut? (We’re talking just the nets with commercial, people. Not HBO or Showtime). Check out the charts below which take into account the top 10 new and returning shows on ad-supported cable among viewers through Aug. 21. (Note to tweeners: Kiddie nets were excluded). USA network is on fire.

“White Collar” and “Covert Affairs” were my favorites this summer. Well, heck, every summer now! I like “Necessary Roughness” and “Royal Pains”, but admit that I’m not yet on board with “Suits” (not sure why). I’ll have to catch a “Suits” ep online and give it another look. USA Network rocks!

I love “White Collar” and “Royal Pains”, but “Necessary Roughness” hasn’t really hit for me. I enjoy “Covert Affairs”, but don’t find the need to watch or DVR it. I haven’t tried “Suits” yet.

      • LOL

        America loves crap.

Not to the nets; Build good shows, they will come.

      • What?

SYFY should be ashamed – Falling Skies is the type of show they should be making.

ABC should be showing shows like Switched at Birth

Finally, The Killing was just plain awesome, but most network tv is for those dazzled by CSI

lies… lies.. lies.. number one show my butt

  • Rebecca

Luther was my favorite show of the summer!!!

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by “Suits”. The original premise as presented in the pilot was kind of lame but the leads are charismatic and the storylines pretty relevant.

Hi Cindy, First you should get a flu shot. When I have a cold (which I get many) I take Airborne, Dayquil to get me thruogh daytimes then at night I take 1 Nyquil capsule and use Vicks Sinex 12 hour nasal spray for the 3 first (usually the worst) days only so I can at least sleep at night. For sore throats and coughing I use Hall’s Honey Lemon lozenges. As you can see I’m a pro at cold relief and have been doing this for years. Try some of these remedies..they do help. Also tea with honey and lemon is soothing. I hope this info helps.

Mounted in Alaska is a show about Bristol Palin.

    • P.

And here I thought Bristol’s new reality show was called Knocked-up Media Wh0re.

USA might be on fire… but History is the one that is really on fire. Those are some huge numbers for them.

  • Amy

Glad to see Switched at Birth, my favorite of the summer shows, has been so well received.

  • chloe

“Mounted in Alaska” must be Bristol Palin’s reality show.

    • benji

      lmao, perfect delivery

      • abadstroller

        Funny, but mean, you guys!

  • illiac

There are some mistakes, the numbers for MTV are Live+same day while the numbers for TNT or USA Network are Live+7. So you can’t compare all these ratings

  • Pslightly Psycho

The dumbing down of America continues. Of ALL the shows on cable TV this heaping mound of dog poo is #1. That says a lot about U.S. pop culture consumers and how shallow they have become. You all are pathetic. Go read a book and learn something.

As for my opinion, Dream Team USA will emrgee the winner for the Gold for Basketball men. If you are looking for the updated and complete medal standings and medal count, please refer to this link 2008 Beijing Olympics Medal Tally Count.

Yep–Burn Notice, Royal Pains and White Collar. These are encouraging numbers.

  • Bad “Situation”

I was hoping Hurricane Irene wiped out the JERSEY SHORE cast. No luck. Damn!

  • jfms777

I like the star of “Necessary Roughness.” I just wish the character wasn’t such an ass. And a lousy Mom. And get rid of her kids. Brats. Makes one almost wish she would become an amoral temptress, like the “Nancy Botwin” character on “Weeds.” She is smart–and hot.

  • jpratm

shame on you AMERICA – Jersey Shore is the disgrace of MTV

  • allie

great for burn notice!! and i agree, jersey shore sucks. how can people watch that trash, lol. i know teen-nick is kind of a tween channel, but wish they showed how degrassi did!

  • Adam

    Happy for Alphas.
