Alan’s ex-girlfriend is coming back.
Courtney Thorne-Smith is set to reprise her role on CBS’ Two and a Half Men in the highly anticipated ninth season.
The former Ally McBeal and Melrose Place star previously had a 10-episode arc on the show as Lyndsey McElroy, a love interest for Jon Cryer’s character Alan Harper. Lyndsey was introduced at the end of the seventh season last year, with Alan landing a model-esque ideal woman instead of Charlie. Thorne-Smith continued on the show through last fall, but then things went south between the couple (in one memorable episode, Alan accidentally burned down her house). Thorne-Smith’s last episode was in January, after Alan became convinced Lyndsey was secretly dating Charlie.
She’ll be back in a recurring role this season, but — like many plot details on Men this fall — her storyline is being kept under wraps. Also added to the Men cast this fall: Judy Greer will play new hire Ashton Kutcher’s ex wife.
For more on the new Two and a Half Men, see EW’s exclusive Q&A yesterday with star and Emmy nominee Jon Cryer where he talks about his relationship with Kutcher’s character on the show, behind the scenes details, and how Men will deal with Charlie’s death beyond the pilot.

I like her and would not mind if they got married
I liked most of the Lyndsey-Alan storyline, and don’t mind it continuing (but they need to let it actually advance, instead of the way they’ve done it, where every change is erased eventually). Even better would be if Lyndsey’s son Eldridge also returns–I think a good way for the show to develop would be to have more stories about the two idiotic teenagers. It brings a whole different tone to the show, rather than doing the same stories year after year.
Yay for Eldridge, my favorite. Please bring him back!
!
I thought she was kind of boring on the show
Considering Thorne-Smith was on According to Jim longer than Melrose or McBeal, you’re doing a disservice to the facts leaving it out of her introduction. However, you are doing a kindness to her for trying to get the world to forget that part of her sitcom past, and as a fan of her earlier work, I commend you for it.
The diffrence is people have fond memories of Ally McBeal & Melrose Place……
she actually showed some potential on Ally McBeal and then she quit that for….According to Jim??? Add in Two and a Half Men and this woman’s career trajectory is one of the most puzzling we have ever seen.
Liked her on According to Jim! She didn’t fit in on 2 1/2 men.
She didn’t like the anorexic/bulimic atmosphere on Ally McBeal.
Ha! Love that comment and yes, you’re right.
You’re actually right. She quit because every single female on the show was super skinny.
So, since Judy Greer played Herb’s sister, Myra, will Ashton be Herb’s brother-in-law? That concept, in itself, would be very funny!! Personally, I can’t wait to see how the new season plays out!!
She’s not playing Myra this time! She’s playing a new character. We’re supposed to forget that Judy was Herb’s sister! lol
As someone who has never watched a single epsiode of this show – why would producers hire an actress to play a character who has already been associated as another character form the same show? That’s absolutely ridiculous!
Jennifer Taylor has played 4 different characters on this show, so Judy Greer playing a second is no big deal.
It is though, if an actress has already played a character, give another actress a chance. This isn’t a soap opera where that kind of recasting is expected/accepted.
Jennifer Taylor was awful so bad example satirex
Her character is too good for Alan and is really funny now that she knows that (she definitley caught that clue when fool burned down her house). One of my fave eps that season was about her and Charlie bonding.
THEY SHOULD KILL ALAN ALSO HE SUCKS
funny stuff : Courtney first job was Charlie Sheen girlfriend on Lucas..ah good times..
Amen. I’ve never hated a character so much. He is AWFUL!
They should bring back Jenna Elfman.
Well I was going to watch this show in the fall but not now! Can’t stand her!
bring back Candy, she was hot and funny as hell
YES!
I wuv you Awison.
Can you bring back Candy???
For Candy to return, April Bowlby would have to dump her other job on Drop Dead Diva.
What ?
An actor/actress can’t be in two shows ? Why not ? It’s been done before. Remember Heather Locklear in TJ Hooker and Dynasty back in the ’80s.
Wow. Judy Greer AND Courtney Thorne-Smith. Love them both … but I can’t imagine they’ll make this garbage show even remotely watchable.
“why would producers hire an actress to play a character who has already been associated as another character form the same show? That’s absolutely ridiculous!”
It has happened more than once before in TV history. My favorite example is Harry Morgan on M*A*S*H*. He played a crazy general in an early episode of the series, and everyone on the show liked him so much they brought him back to be Col. Potter. Worked out great, too! Any reason is a good reason to bring Judy Greer aboard as far as I am concerned!
Love Judy Greer!!
like Judy Greer as well… but if the character she played in 2007 was Judith’s sister, Jake’s AUNT–and now she is another character– just think they lost out on a good opportunity
oops… Herb’s sister, not Judith’s. Still, a good opportunity was lost.
Oops! Herb’s sister… still think it was a lost opportunity.
The woman can’t act people! Take it from a master thespian such as myself.
Yea, but she makes a mean meatball!
They should bring back Kandy for one episode to tell Alan that she’s remarried and he doesn’t have to pay alimony anymore. He’s so overjoyed that he impulsively marries Lyndsey and she files for divorce in the middle of their honeymoon, dropping him right back where he started. Also, Judy should be both Ashton’s ex and Herb’s sister. That will keep everyone in the fold.
