L.A. judge pares down Nicollette Sheridan's suit against ABC

Nicollette Sheridan’s prospects are getting slimmer in her wrongful termination lawsuit against ABC and Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, reports the Associated Press. After limiting the damages the former Housewives villainess could win at October’s trial, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White urged Sheridan to resolve the suit. “You’re going to spend a lot of money on this case,” White told attorneys.

According to Sheridan’s suit, she was unceremoniously fired from the show after complaining about physical abuse from Cherry. Under White’s ruling, Sheridan is only eligible for one season’s wages (roughly $980,000), though she initially sought at least two on the basis of options in her contract. Jurors will consider Sheridan’s battery and wrongful termination claims, but White previously threw out Sheridan’s harassment suit against Cherry and ruled yesterday that Sheridan could not reference those allegations in her current suit. If Sheridan wins the trial, she may be entitled to additional punitive damages. Her reps have not yet responded to a request by EW for comment.

Desperate Housewives should have been cancelled after the 2nd season. I only actually watched that show for maybe 2 seasons at most. What a bunch of over hyped garbage.

This is going to be the final season for this show anyways, so there is some good news to all of this. Sheridan doesn’t have a chance to win this case…sister, just settle this case with ABC and Cherry and move on.

I think Nicollette has a chance of winning here. I believe her story about the slapping and firing her. It didn’t make any sense to fire her, and the show has suffered for it. Anyway, I bet it will settle because ABC doesn’t want this desperate laundry aired in public.

I disagree, I think shes a vindictive ugly liar just like she is portrayed in the show. Why would all of the other leading actors support Marc Cherry if this really happened? They wouldn’t! And I DEFINITELY DON’T think the show suffered…I was HAPPY TO finally see Edie die! I think the show got better after she left.

I was shocked when Nicollette Sheridan’s character died because, to me, she was such an integral part of the show. Because she played a character so unlike any of the others, I felt her absence when watching the series following her character’s death. Her character truly brought a depth, an edge, an intensity, and a force that no other character since her departure has brought to the show. I now understand why the series has been cancelled. That the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, physically abused her does not surprise me, as I have heard how many actresses are mistreated from my many relatives in the business — directors, producers, actors, etc. As a paralegal, I completely disagree with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Allen White. Apparently, like so many women in the workplace, she is a misogynist. I think there are more misogynistic women than there are men. I hope Sheridan wins in the end. She deserves it. No actress should be mistreated and abused on the set, but it happens regularly.
