Sebastian Roche, whose character Balthazar was last seen stabbed by Castiel in the Supernatural season finale, has been booked as a recurring guest star on the new season of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries.

Executive producer Julie Plec tells EW Roche will play “a very mysterious man who appears to be hunting vampires, most specifically Klaus.” Mysterious indeed. As Plec explains, “For some reason, Klaus, who shouldn’t be afraid of anybody, seems to be concerned about this person.” The character was originally to be named Eric, but since the show is also introducing a character in season 3 named Bill (Heroes‘ Jack Coleman), the name of Roche’s character will be changing. “To protect from accidental True Blood comparisons,” Plec laughs. (For the record, on TVD, “Bill” will be a former Mystic Falls resident who returns to point out all the failings of the current Council’s attempts to keep vampires out-of-town.)  READ FULL STORY »

Spike TV has announced pickups of four new series and the renewal of its original series Repo Games for 2012. Repo Games, which premiered in April, is currently averaging 1 million viewers for new episodes. Repo men/trivia masters Josh Lewis and Tom DeTone (pictured) will return for at least 20 new episodes in season 2.

According to Spike’s statement, the four new series follow “a distinctive theme of genuine men in high pressure situations where the stakes are real.” (I love genuine men! Stakes I could give or take.)

In World’s Worst Tenants, professional evictor Todd Howard confronts the dirtiest and most insane tenants imaginable in over 150 residential, commcial and retail units.

American Digger will follow former pro wrestler turned modern day relic hunter Ric Savage as he attempts to convince homeonwers to allow him and his American Savage team to dig up potential treasure in their backyards.

In Big Easy Justice, bounty hunter Tat-2 hunts down some of the most elusive criminals in his native New Orleans and “will utilize any means necessary” to “apprehend his prey.” Still talking about humans here.

And Undercover Stings, from the producers of Cops, will take viewers inside the high-stakes world of orchestrated busts and undercover police sting operations.

We all know she’s coming back, but here’s yet another indication that she really is, indeed, coming back. American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe just told host Ryan Seacrest’s radio audience that Jennifer Lopez will return as a judge next season.

“Do you want to do the Jennifer announcement here or are we still waiting?” Seacrest asked Lythgoe.

The producer replied: “I believe we’re still waiting for the official announcements but I am delighted to say that all three judges, along with the brilliant host of American Idol, is back for the next season.”  READ FULL STORY »

Jon Cryer on Charlie Sheen's 'death' in season opener of 'Two and a Half Men': 'No ... explosion'

charlie-sheen-lying-down

Jon Cryer is bored with all of his Emmy nominations!

Not really, but the funny man from Two and a Half Men made a crack about his sixth consecutive Emmy nod on a Los Angeles TV station Tuesday by saying he’s become one of those actors who forgot about the nominations. “This year was a total surprise,” Cryer told the anchors on KTLA. “I don’t know if you heard but some weird stuff went down on this show this year.”

Speaking of which, Cryer acknowledged there are some weird stories circulating about how Charlie Sheen’s absence is addressed in the season premiere on Sept. 19, but he assures fans that it doesn’t happen as the result of some combustible catastrophe. “There is no meat explosion,” he said, in reference to one particularly strange rumor floating about the much-anticipated episode. “I don’t want Americans to be afraid of the meat. It’s not some entrée that ends disastrously. I’m not allowed to say much about it.”

Strangely, the firing of Sheen brought clarity to the cast and crew, Cryer said. “My perspective has been great through all of this. For many fans of the show, [Sheen's departure] meant a great deal, and that’s important to us. It was an awful thing to be a part of, and I’m glad that some measure of peace has come out of all of it. I never want to go through it again.”

Travis Wall is sad to report that you will not see him in this week’s So You Think You Can Dance two-part finale.  The Emmy-nominated choreographer, and season 2 SYTYCD runner-up, tells EW, “I was supposed to do the finale, but I had to cancel because I got the movie.” Indeed, Wall is currently in Miami creating contemporary pieces for Step Up 4, starring season 6 contestant, and season 7 and 8 All Star, Kathryn McCormick. “It’s my first movie to choreograph,” he says. “I’m really excited.”

But back to SYTYCD: After getting his first shot on the judges’ panel this year, who does he think should take the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer” this season?  READ FULL STORY »

'Bewitched' reboot in the works at CBS

Categories: Remakes, Television, TV Biz

Hawaii Five-0, Charlie’s Angels and … Bewitched?

In the latest classic TV title getting considered for a reboot, CBS and Sony are developing a script for remake of the classic sitcom Bewitched. This is still in very early stages, but it’s definitely a project worth keeping an eye on.

Sony ushered the return of Angels and the producers of the clunky film version (which starred Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell) are on board. Can you imagine the 2011 pitch of this show, about an ordinary suburban businessman who discovers his wife has magical powers? “It’s Harry Potter meets Desperate Housewives!” Here’s a blast from the past: READ FULL STORY »

'House' producers taking on 'Frankenstein' for NBC

Categories: House, Sci-Fi, TV Biz

It’s alive?! No, not yet. It’s just a script deal. But it’s interesting that House executive producers Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner are developing the classic horror tale Frankenstein for NBC.

No other details are available at this point other than this will be a modern-day take on the story. But Frankenstein is one of those concepts where the closer you stick to the original tale, the tougher it becomes to imagine as a TV show — you’d have to radically change things to have a concept that could run five seasons. (Hmm: After a strong, silent-type cop is gunned down, a brainy scientist reanimates him from the dead and together they solve crimes in modern-day New York City — there).
