The first season of Boardwalk Empire featured a lavish vision of Prohibition-era criminality, complete with enough decadent party scenes to make F. Scott Fitzgerald blush. But viewers were split on whether the show lived up to its “Next-Big-HBO-Show” hype. (The fact that it bore a resemblance to almost every other show in HBO history may not have worked in the show’s favor.) But as a Boardwalk skeptic, I’m surprised by how excited I feel after watching the just-released trailer for season 2. It’s simple, but effective: Steve Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson wanders down the Boardwalk, sharing deep glances with everyone in the show’s sprawling cast, who all seem to be watching him like hawks ready to strike. If nothing else, it’s a good reminder of the sheer depth of acting talent on Boardwalk‘s bench. Check it out: READ FULL STORY »

Emeril joins 'Top Chef' as new judge: Bam?
Image Credit: Jakes Van Der Watt/PR Photos
I would have loved to see Anthony Bourdain go full time on Top Chef. Or that bald guy from MasterChef who likes to stare at people really, really hard. Instead, the Bravo reality competition show has hired Emeril Lagasse as its new judge, along with another lesser-known chef, Hugh Acheson (who previously competed on Top Chef Masters).
Padma Lakshmi, Gail Simmons and head judge Tom Colicchio will remain on the judging panel for the upcoming ninth season along with Lagasse and Acheson. Instead of focusing on one city, the show is going to three cities in Texas (Austin, San Antonio and Dallas) and returns later this fall.
In other reality news: Lifetime has ordered America’s Supernanny, a new series seeking to prove that you don’t need to a British accent in order to tell kids what to do. Guess the cable network saw an opportunity since ABC has (unofficially) cancelled Supernanny.
What do you think of the changes to the Top Chef panel?

'Ludo Bites' star kills and skins a buffalo for dinner -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO [Graphic content]
WARNING: The video at the bottom of this post contains extremely graphic images of an animal slaughter. As they say on TV, viewer discretion is advised.
Ludo Lefebvre, the irascible star chef of the Sundance Channel’s Ludo Bites, has no problem firing insults at the cooks and waiters who help him launch his weekly pop-up restaurants around America. But shooting an actual bullet at an animal destined for the dinner table is a different story. In this exclusive clip, Ludo is visibly shaken as he shoots, skins and butchers a buffalo for his newest restaurant in Denver — and then, following what he says is a Native American tradition, he takes a bite out of its heart. “I’m going to respect her,” he says over the animal’s body. “I’m going to make her taste so good.”
Folks, this is seriously gross — some might even say disturbing — material, and definitely NSFW. The gore in this video will probably shock anyone who hasn’t hunted an prepared an animal carcass before, and it serves as a potent reminder of what it actually takes to put food on many of our plates. As the clip states, Ludo used the meat to feed over 100 people the next day at Biker Jim’s, a Denver hot dog restaurant that Ludo commandeered for day. Check out the clip below — and, if you’re still hungry for more, watch the full episode of Ludo Bites tonight at 9 p.m. ET on the Sundance Channel. READ FULL STORY »

Here’s a statement from Syfy: READ FULL STORY »
'The Secret Circle' scoop: 'Make It or Break It' star Zachary Abel to guest
Make It or Break It star Zachary Abel has landed a guest spot on The Secret Circle, the new multigenerational supernatural drama from The Vampire Diaries exec producer Kevin Williamson premiering Sept. 15 on The CW. In the premiere, orphaned Cassie (Britt Robertson) moves in with her grandmother in Chance Harbor, Wash., and learns that she’s a teen witch destined to bind powers with five others to complete a new generation of the Secret Circle. She also finds that she’s drawn to circle member Adam (Thomas Dekker) and hears that they are “written in the stars” — which Williamson is quick to say doesn’t mean what we think it means. If the fact that Adam has a girlfriend, Diana (Shelly Hennig), who genuinely wants to be Cassie’s friend, isn’t complication enough, in episode 3, a hot jock named Luke (Abel) will ask Cassie out. Tim Allen answers: 'Why are men douchebags in sitcoms?'
The critics were restless. After two weeks of sitting in hotel ballrooms listening to celebrities talk (and talk and talk) about their shows, reporters were ready for the summer press tour to be over. But there was still one last must-see panelist: Tim Allen, who is making his return to TV in ABC’s Last Man Standing, about a traditional male living with modern women.
“You’re pissed,” he told the critics at the start of the session. “I can see it … already pissed off and tired.”
So the critics didn’t waste much time. “Tim, why are men always portrayed as douchebags on sitcoms?” one asked. READ FULL STORY »

All My Children will pay tribute to its creator this month by featuring Agnes Nixon in a cameo role.

Panthro lives! Check out his debut on the new 'Thundercats' -- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK
Thundercats nostalgists were probably a bit sad when, in the early moments of the premiere of Cartoon Network’s franchise reboot, it was established that Panthro — one of the most iconic characters from the original ’80s series — had died off-screen. The same nostalgists were then cheered up when Panthro turned out to still be alive…but were then even more horrified when “Panthro” turned out to be the regicidal Mumm-Ra in disguise. Well, nostalgists, once you’ve emerged from your session with your friendly neighborhood pop culture therapist, be aware: This Friday’s episode of Thundercats will introduce the genuine Panthro. And unlike some iconic ’80s anthropomorphic animal cartoon superheroes, Panthro’s still got his nunchaku. Check out the clip below: READ FULL STORY »
Connor Paolo might not return to 'Gossip Girl'
With his new show coming to ABC in the fall, Connor Paolo is unsure he’ll return to the world of Gossip Girl.
“I don’t know that I’ll be able to recur on Gossip Girl. That’s a question for the creators of both shows,” the actor told reporters today at the TCA panel for Revenge, a soap drama in which the actor plays a character named Declan Porter.
“I don’t know how I can do it. I’m here. I have to move out here now; I don’t know how’d that work,” he added after the panel. “I try never to look back…I hope my legacy will be being the one positive character in a slew of double-talkers.”
At the end of last season, Paolo’s Gossip character, Eric, was planning on going to college at Sarah Lawrence. For Paolo, the joy was getting to play a character who “couldn’t be more different” from the one he’s played on the CW show for four years.
“I don’t think they’d get along in a bar,” he said. “And you can’t ask for anything more fun for an actor.”
Revenge debuts in September.
