SIDE DISHES
Image Credit: Mitchell Haaseth/NBC Hola Sandra! So, you know you’re awesome. Done even try and pretend like you are not aware of the fact. That being said, be a little bit more awesome, and gimme some Community scoop! Pretty please?? — Raksha
Why, thank you. Your shameless attempt at flattery (a.k.a.: the best kind) earns you a bit of scoop, indeed: So, we know that Annie’s getting a rival this year. That’s not new info. But what might be new to you is what creator Dan Harmon hinted to me in our recent convo: Annie might have to go back to a very dark place in order to match wits with her mini-me. “[Annie's rival] is cut from the cloth that Annie used to be cut from. She’s like a younger, more powerful kind of Annie, and Annie’s going to have to struggle with regression in order to defeat her,” he says. The funny thing is that when I first talked to Alison Brie about a year ago, she had mentioned wanting to one day see Annie go back to her crazy days. Looks like she may have gotten her wish!
Omar is coming to Community, yo! Ever since it was announced that Michael K. Williams will guest star in Community. I’ve been super excited. Anything else you can tell me about that? Or anything Community-related would do. I’m not that picky. — MJ
Well, since you’re not picky, how about some fantasy-casting scoop courtesy of Harmon! According to Harmon, he’s still hoping to snag the notoriously reclusive Bill Murray to play Jeff Winger’s dad. (After all, he says, Jeff was named after Murray’s character in Stripes!) But will it happen? Harmon’s not optimistic — considering a recent snub they received. “Jason Biggs just passed on a cameo on one of our episodes. We’re a low-rated show just chugging along in the corner. I’m pretty certain that when Amy Poehler says she’s interested in working with [Murray], she’s going to be the one who ends up working with him. So, I’ll just keep saying in Entertainment Weekly that I want to work with Bill Murray and hope some weird fairy turns Bill’s head toward our show and he checks it out and likes it and takes pity on us.” We believe in you, Dan! Shoot for the stars because even if you miss… well, you’ll be lost in space. And that would suck. Wow, I’m really terrible at motivation stuff.
How I Met Your Mother, please! Anything will do! — Abel
When Martin Short makes his first appearance this season as Marshall’s new boss at an environmental firm, he warned me earlier this week that we might feel like his part was cut a little, erm, short. He’s only in two scenes — and both are in a swamp. “He’s looking for chemical run-off, but very happy about it — high waders and a big smile on his face,” says Short. But not to worry! When we spoke, he was just a few days away from returning to the set for two more episodes. And these, he said, will reveal that there is much more hiding behind his character’s optimism. Short teases: “We find out there are darker elements to his joy.” How very Damages.
Any Nikita scoop please! The wait is too long! I feel like I’m getting more impatient as we get closer. — Kelly
Amen to that. Thankfully, it seems the wait will be worth it. I’m particularly excited about the sixth episode, in which Nikita finds herself face-to-face with the man she believes to be her father. But there’s more to that story… which, of course, I can’t tell you. I can say, however, that it’s an episode that teaches us quite a bit more about Nikita’s backstory.
Royal Pains ended this week and while it was just an okay episode, I’m really curious what’s going to happen with Divya! Is she coming back after the break? — Amanda
Rest assured Reshma Shetty will be back as Divya for the second half of the season in the winter. But her actions in the season finale won’t be without consequences — not the least of which will be the loss of some of Hank’s trust. But it won’t be all dreariness when we return. One of the episodes in the second half will give us a peek at Evan… the thespian!
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is coming back soon, Sandra! A little scoop for your old friend, Day Man? — Day Man
Anything for the champion of the sun. Having viewed the season premiere (abs-o-freaking-awesome), I can tell you a cryptic series of actions that you may attempt to piece together with the correct character in your masterful mind: Someone pretends to be a millionaire, someone vomits blood, three people have medical issues/emergencies (not including the aforementioned blood vomiter), and someone (sort of) interacts with both Tiger Woods and Don Cheadle. Best guess gets a shout-out next week. You have to e-mail me your guesses: spoilerroom@ew.com!
Let’s get some Hawaii Five-0 scoopage!! — Nola
A case in the sixth episode of the season will take McGarrett and Danny into the world of MMA fighting. And you can BET the writers are not going to pass up a chance to get McGarrett into the ring… or is it cage? Whatever, McGarrett fights. That’s what’s important. If that’s not something to look forward to, you’re impossible!
NEXT: “MORE SIDE DISHES! Scoop on ‘Parenthood,’ ‘Parks and Recreation,’ ‘Castle,’ and more!”

“Whatever, McGarrett fights. That’s what’s important. If that’s not something to look forward to, you’re impossible!” Can we get our hopes up that he fights without a shirt? He seems to like running around without shirts so there is some hope of that happening, right?
You’ve obviously never seen MMA fighting. OF COURSE he will not be wearing a shirt. If he did, it would be ripped off of him during the wrestling bits.
Seriously, I’m drooling just thinking about those scenes.
If Steve wants to solve cases sans shirt then who are we to say no! That man can run around in just cargo pants or less all day if he wants, it is Hawaii afterall. I’m glad the show is continuing on. Last season Law & Order LA showed Corey Stoll looking like THAT in a wife beater then NBC cancelled the show!
Loving all the scoop on my favorite shows! That said, you totally know that Ryan is going to pick Esposito as his best man. Castle, Ryan, and Esposito maybe all be BFFs (which I love), but Esposito is the one that’s had Ryan’s back all these years
Bring on the darker side of Annie! As far as Bill Murray is concerned I would prefer seeing him as Mayor of Pawnee. As much as I love Community, I think he makes the ideal Pawnee resident. Surely they can get some other awesomely weird person to play Jeff’s dad.
I agree – rather see Murray as the mayor than Winger’s dad.
Agreed! He strikes me more as a Pawneean than a Communitarian.
I am quitting Royal Pains. It used to be a fun, breezy summer show but now its just boring. Zzzz…. And not enough Campbell Scott, which is why I started watching in the first place.
Who’s Campbell Scott?
Campbell Scott plays Boris.
Not to mention what a total jerk Evan has been.
I know! Evan’s being a major jerk. I don’t care that he’s Hank’s brother. Hank took an oath, and he takes it seriously. After the inital shock, Evan should understand this.
I’m also a bit mad at Paige for putting Hank b/w a rock and a hard place. She also owes Hank an apology.
Aw, Ryan! Your best man should be Esposito, all the way! He was your partner and buddy long before Castle showed up on the scene!
Agreed. Though it will be fun to see Castle try to hone in on the spot, if Ryan doesn’t pick Esposito something is definately screwed up in the writer’s minds…. Although the resolution of 3XK could change that if it is again Rick and Ryan that confront him.
I agree with both of you. It has to be Ryan. I love Ryan and Esposito together.
Is it me or does Sandra really not like giving out scoop? Most of the stuff she gives isn’t really thar great; half of the time she chooses to taunt us or dodge the question. Not cool Sandra.
Or refer us to other articles that better EW writers have written. She’s not that great at this job.
@ AB… Whatever, you just suffer from depression. Sandra does a wonderful job. She’s on top of her game.
Have to agree. The only thing that interested me (the Prentiss/CM scoop) she didn’t even answer! Also, a lot of her “spoilers” are tl;dr. Brevity is not her strong point.
.. wait, where’s the G’sA scoop? Did I miss it?
Pfffft, wrong page when I clicked the link. My bad!
Do you have any interviews with Jensen Ackles to report on?
I second this!
Yes, please?
Me 3.
Yes, more from Jensen Ackles and something juicy about Dean!
Sorry that I did not see this sooner, Jim. My gonadsrn is 20 and still sports-obsessed. Many Autistics have obsession; for my gonadsrn it’s sports. My little buddy loves to game online with his Wii, and if it’s not a sports game it’s Rock Band or Guitar Hero. We watched the game, and of course he was ecstaic over the Saints’ win. We did our traditional high-10-low-10-hip-bump of victory for his team. I hope that this win helps NOLA get the additional attention that it still needs. As for what destroys a game, the emphasis on specialization has destroyed the enjoyment that I used to have. I am old enough to remember when players had to be able to multitask: play more than just one position, play both offense and defence, etc. One just doesn’t see the verssatility in the players anymore (sigh). My mother was a football fan all her life, and she hated the influx of specialization in the professional sport but continued to watch college ball until her death. I enjoy our local high school games. I have seen more heart and determination on the local high school fields in one game than in an entire NFL season. We watched our local working-class school underdog team hold off the better-rated opposing school with a goal line stand through 3 plays that changed the momentum of the game. We saw our boys defeat a school from a more high rent’ area at their homecoming; it was sheer bliss. My gonadsrn’s English teacher that year was also the coach for the JV cheer squad, and all of the girls were so sweet to him. When I was in high school, the cheerleaders did not sit in the cafeteria with the special ed kids or the odd’ kids, but those girls made my gonadsrn feel that he was just as good, just as worthy as anyone else in ways that I never could and for which I will always be grateful. It may explain why he is still sports-obsessed and why football remains a favorite. When you are different’, you never forget the first popular person/people who treat you well or the things that you associate with them. And fortuneately the FotF ad was s close to innocuous as it could get, so that was not a major issue at least. I agree with Nancy: if many of us hadn’t pitched a major fit, I do believe that the ad would have been much more blatant in its anti-choice agenda.
yeah, where the heck is he? Or is Sera making it official that Jared is the only lead on the show now?
did anybody ge the fall tv preview and knows what the spnl spoilers are?
Jason Biggs passing on work? Give me a break…he can’t be Jim from American Pie forever.
I thought something similar. Who the hell does Jason Biggs think he is? He’s not some A-list star (TV or movie!). Frankly, I’d rather not have him on the show if he can’t appreciate Community’s brilliance.
You took the words out of my mouth, Chanandler. He should be so lucky. Community’s too good for him anyway.
Good DDD article, great interview with Lex Medlin.
But come on, EW…do you EVER proof your stuff? The new judge’s name is OWEN French, not OLIVER.
He is perfect for the role. There is great chemistry. Grayson is lame. GO OWEN AND JANE!!
Thank you for going back and changing your error, EW. I am back to loving you again…
That said…MORE Judge McAwesome!
i cant believe this!! me and my sister just got two i-pads for $42.77 each and a $50 amazon card for $9. the stores want to keep this a secret and they dont tell you. go here……( BidsGet ) . (com)
I really hope they don’t kill off Hetty on NCIS: LA. She holds the show together.
As for Royal Pains, I could care less. I really used to like that show (and Campbell Scott) but no more.
Wait, holy sh*t, what? They shot Hetty?! I miss part of a season and THIS happens? Wow… f***!
I was surprised that they just dropped the whole Boris being poisoned thing over the last few episodes. It’s never even been mentioned! And Evan was a total 2-year old. It made me mad that Hank acted all hang-dog like he did the wrong thing. It was Evan that was wrong. And with Castle, I think Ryan needs to pick Esposito for sure. Castle is fun and would certainly be a prestigious best man, but I agree with other posters, that it would be great to see Castle competing for the slot, but for Ryan to give it to Esposito at the end.
A bachelorparty thrown by Castle? I’m definitly looking forward to that one xD
Thx for the scoops!
