'Futurama' goes Roaring '20s retro in finale -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

You’ve seen the clip from the upcoming Futurama finale where the gang spoofs Voltron and other classic anime cartoons, right? But have you seen the segment from later in the same episode that mocks 1920s ‘toons like “Steamboat Willie”? Of course you haven’t, because it hasn’t been released yet. But EW has a sneak peak below. Futurama’s “Reincarnation” episode (which also includes a segment done in the style of early 1980s videogames) airs Thursday, Sept. 8 on Comedy Central. Here’s your exclusive clip:

    great show

Just watched Thursday’s episode. What a sweet, lovely ending. Same goes for the previous week’s ep with Fry’s dad. Amid the hilarity of any given episode, this show provides so many genuine, touching moments. Great season.

    • Emeri

Yeah, last weeks ending was unbelievably amazing and heart warming. A brilliant show.

This season has been very good. Season 5 had good moments, but was kind of uneven. Season 6 was classic Futurama and is every bit as good as 1-4.

I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve seen this season and look forward to this one, too. But I hope only this segment and not the whole episode will be in B&W.

This show is still on the air? I remember it premiering on Fox like 15 years ago.

  • dee123

So despite Katey Sagal being on Married With Children & Futurama & now SOA she’s never won an Emmy?

    • Summer

Totally off topic but yes, sadly true about Katey but also typical Emmys: Angela Lansbury, Hugh Laurie, Courtney Cox the ONLY Friends cast member never nominated i could go on forever……

      • Lena120

It is true and unfortunate. Katey Segal can act circles around so many of her peers but she gets no Emmy love. At least she got that Golden Globe. The Emmys just like the Oscars are a group of pretentious p***ks. If you look at the people who’ve never won Oscars you’d really lose faith in the system and I’m talking competitive not the honorary Oscar. Stanley Kubrick, Robert Altman, Alfred Hitchcock, Peter O’Toole, Cary Grant, Judy Garland, Barbara Stanwyck, and Charlie Chaplin never won before.

I feel like Futurama is the most underrated show on television. The writing has only gotten better since it’s been back. Just compare a recent episode of Futurama to one of the Simpsons, South Park or Robot Chicken. Frankly, it is becoming a comic masterpiece.

    • Pat D.

Thats not saying a whole lot though….the Simpsons has only rarely been funny in the past 15 years or so….Its kinda sad….the writing during the prime years of TS was near brilliant…watch the amazingness of an earlier episode like “Homer goes to college” (my favorite) and compare it to the awful episodes that air now. They are so far apart in clever humor, timing, and overall writing its amazing.

But, as long as it keeps raking in money, The Simpsons will never end. Thank God we have ‘rama back to fill in the void. My only complaint is that we haven’t got a whole lot of Zapp this season, other than that they really seem to have regained their form.

      • SilentBoy741

I know! Billy West is a voice-acting genius. Fry, Zoidberg, Farnsworth — it’s hard to believe they’re all the same guy. But Zapp is a masterpiece; even after 10 years, every time I hear Zapp say “sweet, sweet can-day… Bam!”, I still crack up.

      • MaxPgh

I HATE ZAPP BRANIGAN!! But he does have a nice butt.

    • Swathi

This design is irdcenible! You most certainly know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

  • Marshall1

Actually I am pleased that Rachel won, Jordan did not desrvee it, Porsche did not desrvee it, and Adam no way in HELL desrveed to even be final 3.I’m not bitter at all that Dani/Kalia didn’t win, I was over that when Jeff got the boot. Raspberry you should probably get off the internet and back to your english class!

Huge longtime fan of Futurama (from the start), thought the movies were meh but last season was great … this season has been iffy. There have been some really great moments (now that I think about it, last week’s may have been the best episode), but some of the plots feel tired and/or repetitive (how many times can Bender get modified this season?). That said, still a big fan, I just hope the writers do a good job of rejuvenating before next season.
PS: I really wish I’d stop missing the final ten seconds because of Plex’s lousy DVR technology.
