At least, that’s what fans of Live! With Regis and Kelly will be saying when the 80-year-old co-host tapes his last episode of the syndicated talk show on Friday, Nov. 18. Philbin made the announcement during today’s show. “Friday, Nov. 18 is my last day,” Philbin said, adding, “But don’t worry, the show goes on.”
Back in January, the television icon officially announced that he would be stepping down from Live! after co-hosting for nearly 28 years. Philbin said of his retirement from the show at the time, “There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people.” The Emmy-winner joked on Tuesday, “Last January I made the announcement that I’ll be moving on. But I never gave you an exact date. So I’m pushing it back five years. Just kidding.”
While no new co-host has yet been named for Philbin’s right-hand woman Kelly Ripa (we here at EW had some suggestions of our own, however), the two discussed finding a replacement. “Kelly will be trying out new co-hosts, just like we did 11 years ago when we found her,” Philbin said, kidding that Ripa would be looking for a “new young hot” male co-host. Ripa, who joined Philbin in 2001 after Kathie Lee Gifford exited, fired back by saying that she was just looking for someone, “Alive and breathing.”

I should have added that to my original comment, and you are bang on Kal! I remember recently they had on Robert Duvall, and neither Regis or Kelly knew the name of the film her was promoting…and there was one other time as well I forget which actor, but they both said they hadn’t seen his film….unacceptable! So, again I hope you’re right the new co-host is more knowledgeable then these two clowns…lol..

The sponsors were unhappy as the hosts were on vacation maore then they worked..Sports is happy as the “Philbin Jinx” will be gone seems everybody he picks goes down in flames. Poor Notre Dame, Pitt Pirates, his pickem record over the last 10 years is 90/10 the wrong way…

They should just can this show. Nothing of value comes from it. He adds only a slight amt of credibility from his experience. She brings nothing – go back to AMC – oh yeah not there anymore.
Can’t understand why someone who dislikes Regis would even read this article, let alonetake the time to post. There are 800 channels (if you can afford cable), pick one and shut up.
Regis has more hours on TV than anyone else and has been lucky enough to do what he likes for 60 years and make great money. Not many people can say that.
I think that people who dislike Regis Philbin read this article to find out when he is leaving “Live.” Perhaps to set their DVRs for the day after to start watching the show again?
