'Enlightened' trailer: Laura Dern tries to change the world in the new HBO dramedy -- EXCLUSIVE

Interested in seeing Laura Dern as “an agent of change” — not to mention, a woman who can create a rather disturbing elevator scene? Empower yourself by watching the first trailer for the new HBO drama Enlightened. Dern plays Amy Jellicoe, a troubled corporate exec who suffers a nervous breakdown, receives treatment at a mental health facility in Hawaii, and then returns to work as a new person. The kind who peddles self-help mantras and asks a table full of suits, “Wouldn’t you be happier working for a place that’s, like, giving back to the world instead of some corporate parasite that’s raping land and people?” Enlightened – which also stars Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd, and exec producer Mike White — debuts Oct. 10. Check out the trailer below:

Hopefully there’ll be lots of scenes of Laura Dern riding naked on a dinosaur-oh wait, that’s “Jurassic Park”.

    i HEART LAURA DERN !

The second half of the trailer looked like the movie adaptation of Eat, Pray, Love, but it looks interesting. It looks funnier than The Big C (and yes, I watch the show). Glad to see Luke Wilson on television.

    • tim

yeah, the BIg C can be hit or miss and sometimes i feel it comes off forced. loved Laura Dern since Wild at Heart this show will be great hopefully.

  • Taylor

Omg, this show just jumped to the top of my list of new shows to watch! Very excited for this.

  • Kmb

Any show that has a Regina Spektor song in the trailer is worth taking a look at to me.

  • Tim Lade

Not sure how Laura Dern has gone untapped for so long but this looks very good.

    • Jimmy

I will agree with you that Laura Dern is a great actress, but this looks exceptionally boring.

  • Sara

nice use of regina. that’s my favorite part of that song too.

i’d definitely check this out. hbo rarely steers me wrong.

  • Katie

Laura Dern & Mike White? I’m in!

  • Flip

WTF, that’s the guy from The Amazing Race!!! What in the eff?!?!

    • Z

Mike White was an actor and screenwriter before doing The Amazing Race…

      • Flip

Wow, the Amazing Race sure didn’t promote that!! I only know him as the weird-looking guy from the Amazing Race (and for the longest time I thought his dad was actually his boyfriend).

    • eric

He’s a very accomplished screenwriter, actor and director, not a reality show contestant. He wrote School of Rock, The Good Girl, Dead Man on Campus, Year of the Dog, Orange County and more.

  • Liz

    Love that actress.

  • Eran

That song fitted perfectly to this brilliant new series. I love Regina Spektor!!

    • Strangela

Whats the name of Regina’s song used in the trailer?

      • machafrapp

It’s called Human of the Year.
(from the album Far – great album!)

  • Patrick

Can’t wait. I’ve been waiting for this one!!!!

  • jfms777

And once again–all the really really fine actresses are doing tv. Welcome, Laura Dern.

  • jane

what regina spektor song is playing in the preview?

    • Arty

      Human Of The Year :)

  • BL

Love this premise and Laura Dern. That little smile she had in the rehab scene showed that in an instant, she “got it.” Can’t wait for the show.
