'Raising Hope' season 2 opens with an adorable song recapping season 1 -- VIDEO

Didn’t watch the first season of Fox’s adorable family comedy Raising Hope? Wished you had? Wanting to catch up but don’t have time before the show premieres its second season Sept. 20? You’re in luck! The first two minutes of the show’s premiere this season function as a recap of the first season, with the scene-stealing Shelly (Kate Micucci) singing a song about Hope (played by 18-month-old twins Baylie and Rylie Cregut) as she’s baby-sitting her. Fox has shared a first look at the first couple minutes of season two with EW, and you can find that video below.

The intro to the premiere episode, titled “Prodigy,” opens with Shelly talking to her crazy day care crew, which includes senior citizens, dogs, and babies. “Welcome back!” Shelly says. “Did everyone have a great summer?” Then Shelly surveys the group and lands, of course, on baby Hope — the namesake of the Fox comedy — as the subject about whom she’s going to sing.

From there, the song delves into Hope’s entire family — which includes daddy Jimmy (Lucas Neff), grandma Virginia (Martha Plimpton), grandpa Burt (Garret Dillahunt), and grandma Maw Maw (Cloris Leachman) — and how they’re all connected, what they’ve got going on, etc. The whole thing is a pretty clever device, if you consider that it does seamlessly open the new season, recap the first season, and avoids alienating new viewers. Check it out!

I thought the Gilligan’s Island reference was cute, and a nice tribute to Sherwood Schwartz.

    Too, too precious!!!

This show needs to get some marketing time. This was the best new show of last year, and flew quietly under the radar while tons of awful crap got millions in marketing thrown at it.

    • Josh

It got swallowed up by the Glee machine-Fox’s cash cow.

      • Jenny

Doesn’t everything get overlooked because of Glee these days. Raising Hope got snubbed for Outstanding Comedy, and Glee got nominated. But Glee’s second season was really uneven and totally undeserving in my book.

Lol @ The Glee Machine. Even though I liked most of the first season of Glee everything about it just scream MONEY GRAB now and it makes the entire show really unenjoyable, like I can’t even watch commercials for it without feeling the pressure of capitalism bearing down on me.
