Fred Savage will be busy behind and in front of the camera on the Happy Endings set next week: EW has learned that he is not only directing his second episode of the sophomore ABC comedy, this time he’ll be making a rare onscreen appearance, guest starring as himself. (We can’t give away too much, but let’s just say involves a bad date, Elisha Cuthbert’s Alex, and Savage providing live commentary for The Princess Bride.)

The former Wonder Years star reinvented himself as TV director years ago, helming episodes of such series as Modern Family, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Ugly Betty. Savage’s episode is slated to air sometime this fall, while season 2 of Happy Endings debuts Sept. 28.

        They met-via { мilliσпαirεlцv.сσм }
It is nice club for rich men or pretty girls mate.
You do not need to be wealthy or famous, but you can meet your true love, it’s worthy a try.

Commentary for The Princess Bride? This is why I love this show!

    • Tim @rural_juror

I’m in love with this episode already.

  • Mary

Happy Endings is a great show!!!!

  • Jeff

Wow, he sure grew up to be hot! I wish his guest spot would involve dating Max.

    • @ Jeff

Why would u want that? Fred isn’t gay!

      • Molly

I’m pretty sure Jeff means instead of playing himself, he could play a character who would date Max.

OR, do the NPH in Harold & Kumar thing and play a version of himself. In the credits NPH is listed as “NPH as NPH” not as “NPH as himself”.

Omg, how could I have almost forgotten that he was in The Princess Bride! So glad when he is in front of the camera. I know he has a lot of success directing, but not seeing much of him makes you think he has fallen by the wayside.

I love Happy Endings, here’s hoping it gets the viewers it deserves! And Wonder Years is one of my all-time favorite shows, so this is nothing but a win-win for me!

  • Dr. Linus

I really wish more people were watching this show. It’s great.

  • Eleanor

Ohhhh! I know it is all set by now, but I wish he would “date” Penny (my niece Casey Wilson). That would be a great twist on Happy Endings. She is great on this show, and we are so proud of her!

  • ERH

Fred could end up dating Penny. She needs a man in her life on the show!

  • Faisal

Sad to say but I was just reading about him on Wikipedia and it showed a death date as August 16, 2011 and years lived from 1976-2011. Then just now I refreshed my page and it says “Years lived: 1976-Present” LOL. That is messed up.

  • Tammy

    Um…oh yeah..right!!!!good show, …..”the wonder years”..right…um yeah..thats the ticket

  • Fred

    “I see.”

Rebecca, thank you so much for this illuminating post. Having seen and keowrd so much in recent years regarding social media and its effective use for the purposes of brand advocacy, this is an incredible demonstration of how social media can be used at a different, truly humanistic level of advocacy for LIFE. This is yet another demonstration of how social media trandscends the business and the personal worlds, and can serve to better both.

He’s even more handsome now. Yum.

  • Um …

So … this episode has aired now. Fred Savage directed it, but there was no on-screen appearance by him at all. And no Princess Bride mentions. What gives?? Alex’s bad date was courtesy of David Walton’s guest character. I was looking forward to Savage’s appearance, so I was very disappointed he wasn’t there.
