Game of Thrones picked up an Emmy on Sunday night, with Peter Dinklage taking the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister.

One of the more eagerly anticipated acting races had the actor thanking his dogsitter, as well as his wife Erica Schmidt. “Wow, I followed Martin Scorsese,” Dinklage marveled, referring to the winner of the previous category. “I couldn’t do this without David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the producers, they were the first to call me and tell me about this part. HBO you’re quite simply the best place to work for you — you let artists create.”

Actual question asked of Dinklage backstage: “You just seem so perpetually cool, being badass, how do you do that?”

Dinklage had a rather humble answer: “[By] being terrified on the inside. It’s all a fake show. I feel terribly uncool.”

He was also asked about the YouTube video of him slapping another character on the show over and over again, what he thought about it. “It’s terrible,” he said. “It’s awful.”

Dinklage noted that he mentioned his dogsitter, but “not my manager or my lawyer. It might be funny or witty or not. It comes at a price.”

Stay tuned, Thrones is also up for Best Drama series (though is considered a long-shot). Full Emmy winners list.

Of course he won, he was the obvious (and deserving) winner. Still scratching my head that Ken Tucker didn’t even MENTION him in his should win/will win slideshow.

      • CIK

        Ken Tucker is anti-midget.

  • Kate

so awesome–he is perfect in GoT…his speech was pretty cute too–his wife looked so happy.

    • Markus

Why not a thread for all the other winners. Over compensating

      • Portia

Overcompensating would be having a thread for all the winners! lol! Do you really want a thread for each winner of the writer and producer categories and for all the mini-series…etc? Or do you just want to “overcompensate” for the actors and actresses that you actually know?

      • @ Potia

        OK

  • jul

Love him. Really happy that he won.

  • MWeyer

So wonderful to see this, he imbued the character perfectly.

  • Caitie F

Why did he not thank George R R Martin? Guess we know which character will die in the next book…

    • Ms. Chanandler Bong

Even if he does, who cares? There’s 4 more books of Dinklage!

    • Alice

His character is Martin’s favorite. I don’t think whether he lives or dies is going to be influenced by Peter’s speech. Especially as he’s the only cast member nominated.

    • Kevin

So he’s going to kill him off so Dinklage only gets to spend 6 years playing the most popular character on a hit TV show? That’ll show him.

      • Tara

Trust me, he’s not going anywhere…

      • Caitie F

Well it was a jerk move. He just won because of Martin and he doesn’t bother thanking him. MAkes him kinda an a$$

      • hmm

        Lighten up Francis.

      • Jason

I read another interview in which he said since he didn’t think he was going to win, he had no speak prepared. He also mentioned how nervous he was. I just think he forgot to mention specific people.

    • phoenixeyrie

You haven’t read the books, have you?

  • Lisa

Awesome job. Love him as tyrion.

  • Qing

He is so good as Tyrion. I wish he can slap some sense into Joffrey! Can’t Wait for season 2.

  • Shasta

I hope he was being sarcastic with the “it’s terrible” comment! Because come on, nobody deserves it more than Joffrey.

    • ks

I was thinking the same thing!

    • Carla Houston

Amen! I still laugh everytime I see it!

  • shdrew

I soooooo loved that he thanked his dog-sitter. How touching :)

  • sv

So happy for him. He deserves it.

  • Mike

So happy for Peter. His portrayed Tyrion EXACTLY the way he was in the book, which is a pretty daunting task considering how beloved his character is. Really excited to see him win, well deserved.

  • aleksa

I couldn’t be more happy for him!

  • Deb

Fabulous actor. Fabulous speech. He truly is The Imp, in all the finest ways. I want to be a Lannister!

    • chase

LOL!!!! Me 2 Deb.. “A Lannister always pays his debts”

    • Robb Stark

      Winter is coming Lannister!

      • Lannister

You’re going to die in the second book Robb. Enjoy the wedding!

      • Baratheon

Just remember you Starks and Lannisters
        “Ours is the Fury”
And without us, you got nothing! Well other then gold and direwolfs pfft

  • Scott123

All I could think was,”Tyrion’s best stuff is NEXT season!” Next year will be very interesting.

    • Herba

Tyrion is arguably the main character in season 2, so it would be funny if he gets nominated next year has “best actor in a drama series”.

    • Linda Burke

Yes, I want to know how they are going to address Tyrion not having half his nose, makeup-wise.

  • Martha76

So deserved. Absolutely loved his portrayal. So glad he won.
