'Luck' be a teaser trailer: Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte hit the races in dark horse drama

“It’s a beautiful day at the track.” That’s the first line uttered in the teaser trailer for HBO’s latest crime saga, the racetrack drama Luck, which debuted during last night’s second season premiere of Boardwalk Empire. Of course, despite some beautifully shot scenes of horses on a racetrack (the show, is, after all, at the hands of Heat‘s Michael Mann and Deadwood‘s David Milch), it appears what’s going on outside the arena is anything but. Dustin Hoffman stars as a crime boss who has recently been released from prison after three years and is not happy about his lost time. (Not sure if we’ve ever seen Hoffman flip over a table before this!) The teaser clip doesn’t give too much else away about the plot or the rest of the impressive cast (including Nick Nolte and Dennis Farina), but the show looks like it has the same winning pedigree as some of HBO’s other classics. (See: snippets of sex, greed, and violence.) Watch the full clip below. And they’re off…

Absolutely breathtaking. Golden Globes and Emmys for all involved.

    • Grubi

A bit premature, don’t ya think?

I agree with Bruce. I think at this point HBO are guaranteed multiple nominations for their programming. It happens every year with any freshman show or miniseries.

      • Grubi

Treme, Eastbound & Down, Bored to Death, Lucky Louie, John From Cincinnati, and most importantly, The Wire. All of these HBO shows have received very few or no Emmy nominations.

    • Lisa

Hmm as long as they don’t take any nominations or wins from Breaking Bad

Love Hoffman’s work and Nolte is OK, but I can do without Farina. I’ll give it a chance though.

but none of these shows star Nick Nolte and Dustin Hoffman….just saying…..they tend to get star-struck, the Emmy/Golden Globe members…..the one surprise was Laura Linney NOT getting her Emmy in the Big C. She deserved that one…..

      • Grubi

I disagree about Laura Linney deserving her Emmy (I think Poelher should have gotten it, but almost anyone would have been better than McCarthy), but you are right that they tend to get starstruck. Coincidentally, this is probably why McCarthy won in the first place (the Emmy’s were pretty much rewarding her for Bridesmaids, not Mike & Molly)

I’m in!. Tough luck, Cranston (punned on purpose). There’s NO way you get the EMMY next year. This is Hoffman’s to lose.

  • vivienne westwoods

Vivienne Westwood is an amazing woman that always manages to look unique ever since ditching the teaching day job and becoming part of a duo that changed British history with their punky outlook. Since her days of tartan, safety pins and porn slogan t-shirts Westwood has gone from strength to strength.
