'Dancing with the Stars' eliminated contestant: 'I'm going back to horseback riding'

With a bottom-of-the-leaderboard score of 17 and a sore knee to boot, Chaz Bono looked as if he was heading home on Tuesday. But fans ultimately had more love for the son of Cher and less so for another (far less famous) celebrity. For some parting words from the week 2 eliminated contestant, go to the jump.

Pro Val Chmerkovskiy wasn’t too happy but Elisabetta Canalis tried to put on a positive front, even though she became the second eliminated contestant Tuesday on Dancing with the Stars. Her English is still a little broken — hey, the Italian beauty hasn’t been in the states that long since she split from George Clooney — but she still managed to convey regret about leaving.

“I’m sad of course because for me, it was a good experience,” said Canalis. “I having fun. It was a good opportunity. I really cared about this competition, but it’s a competition so somebody has to go home and tonight we went home.”

Canalis’ elimination was somewhat of a surprise, considering she earned 21 out of a total 30 points during Monday’s performance show while other dancers like Bono, Hope Solo and Carson Kressley scored less. Then again, many viewers probably don’t recognize Canalis — especially if they avoid the celebrity tabloids that chronicle star makeups and breakups.

Her partner thinks their lack of celebrity was somewhat to blame. “The truth is I feel like yesterday the judges kind of dropped the ball on the marks,” Chermkovskiy said. “We did show improvement and I was really happy with our result. But then they gave that result to five other couples and that killed it. There was not enough space between us, you know when it comes down to David Arquette and Chaz Bono, as much as Elisabetta was amazing, the press that they get and the popularity and fan base that they have in America, we can’t compete with that.”

Chermkovskiy even asked his partner if Clooney voted, to which she replied, “I don’t know. No, I don’t know. I think, I don’t think anything.”

Canalis doesn’t know she’ll do next, though she hopes her DWTS run — however brief it was — will count for something. “If Dancing With The Stars will bring me new opportunities, I’ll be happy.” As for lessons learned, Canalis says, “that I have to be more diplomatic sometimes, especially when I’m learning.” That doesn’t make much sense, but okay. What else, lovely? Will you ever dance again?

“Right now I’m going back to horseback riding,” she said, laughing. — With reporting from Carrie Borzillo

      • Me

I don’t know how lisa g. can live with herself being such an ignorant piece of shhh.

      • lisa g.

        Sh it I love chasity!

      • Because lisa g

has so many other things to think about—like the fact that she’ll never be anything better than what she is right now. It all goes downhill from here, darling.

      • baba booey

lisa glasburg takes sh its at work

      • Ashamed for you

Lisa g. Your intolerance sickens me. We are failing as a nation if members of our society are so bigoted and ignorant. There is no excuse for what you said

      • etm

Lisa G, you’re why Steve Langford left.

  • Court

Probably good she left… How humiliating to be famous just for dating your ex boyfriend

    • Acaseofgeo

Not only that, some of the other lesser-known female contestants are riding the coattails of their male dancing partner’s previous popularity on this show. I forget which ladies are with Mark and Maks but certainly most viewers who vote are voting more for the man than the “celebrity”.

      • J.Norman

On that last point, There should really be no doubt. In fact, it is the pros who have become the stars. That will (or should) lead to this shows slow decline and eventual downfall.

      • Zach

It is the pros who are the stars now, I agree. But Hope Solo is a popular soccer player. She may not be one of the more widely known contestants this year, but she may also have one of the larger fanbases. As for Mark and Kristin, though, I definitely agree. Audrina was probably a better dancer and had no fanbase. Kristin probably won’t last as long as she should.

      • RaRa

There are advantages and disadvantages to the pros “becoming the stars” of the show. There are a lot of people who tune in because they have a favorite pro. The producers would be idiotic to alienate that segment of the fan base simply to make the voting “more about the stars’ dancing and less about the pros’ popularity”. I think it adds an element to the competition. Some of the pros with the biggest egos (such as Mark) will have to change their ways (such as showcasing his partner and not acting so self-centered) if they want to compete with the likes of Macs, who iseems to be loved by a majority of the viewers.

    • Cathy

ummm people didn’t like her, she acted like a snob and a b-tch

    • elle

Exactly, being known for dating a famous actor us the only rational reason she was asked to be on the show. If she had a winning personalilty, didn’t gripe about learning the steps to a dance and could joke about her weaknesses maybe someone else would have gone home.

      • Deiine

Not to sound lazy but can someone plaese tell me who Reilly the Bengal cat is ? I take it from the poem he was a rescue bengal cat that just recently died or was put down because of issues that he could not help. I can’t find him on the blogand I don’t follow twitter to well. Also awesome poem, human kind should not keep wild animals. Their is a reason why they are wild, and creating hybrids is something no breeder who truly loves cats really should do, because they so many of the early generations do suffer. I love bengals as I do with several other breeds, but their are too many animals of all kinds be they cat, dog, rabbit, or even chicken to go out their and breed them so you can have a designer animal. So many are put down, that I rather adopt from a shelter and save two lives. If you think on how screwed up breeding designer dogs and cats are. Breeding chickens…..oh boy. You create real frankenstein’s that way that can out do any dog or cat deformity a human loves in them. Kit

  • takwethat

These shows suck. It is supposed to be about the dancing not about being more famous or who the parents of the person is. Chaz looks like chris christie jello roll bouncing. That gives me nightmares.

    • RaRa

I just fast-forward through the Chaz segments.

  • serendipity

She is gorgeous, and she has a lot of potential as a dancer – her routine was very strong last night. Unfortunately she came off as a bit of a sulky bitch because she could barely hide her dislike for her partner. I think that cost her in the voting. Still, Chaz Bono should have gone home. I don’t care that he’s transgender, but he’s so FAT that he can’t really do the routines.

  • Barack Palin

O can’t believe America would rather watch the androgynous he/she/it/whatever blob rather than a young, stunning Guidette. My only theory is that Lacey has a lot of fans. Still, its good Chaz didn’t go to quick on yesterdays quicksteps-the faultlines might have been disrupted. Just wondering who Bruno is sadder to see eventually leave-Elisabetta his fellow countrywoman or CXarson his fellow friend of Dorothy. Oh well, hopefully the freak show known as Chaz Bono will soon be gone. I wonder what song he/she/it/whatever will be dancing to next week-”Man, I Feel Like a Woman” might be a good choice. Chaz is one scary looking creature.

    • Leah

time to crawl back into your cave.

    • Brett

Do you feel all high and mighty now after that disgusting comment? get over it.

    • Rowzie

You are disgusting and you are a scary creature!!!!!!!

    • CS

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it!

    • Theresa

I like Chaz, but he is not great to watch and this is a TV dance show! Appearance counts and also he does a really bad job of dancing I’m sure in part due to his physical problems. He was the one to be sent home last night. Give him and us a break!

    • amy

Barick Palin, my 6 yr old nephew is more mature and intelligent than you!!!

    • Tony

The good looking women always go early.

    • robert

      Bitter betty party of 1

  • kim

she was so great and did a complete 180 and gave one of the best dances of the night. It’s all about fan base and likeability. It’s too bad, because she would have been a force to be reckoned with — i loved her quickstep. Hope solo or carson should have gone.

  • sam

i’m happy that chaz is on but when it comes down to it — it should be chynna, david and ricki and rj in the semi finals. I don’t want to see another bristol palin.

    • Kim

David is terrible. Why would he possibly be in the semi finals?

  • grayland

Exactly what has this woman done to be considered a “star” anyway, except by, um, injection?

    • mjh

She spread her legs for Clooney. Isn’t that enough?

    • Theresa

And, who is George Clooney? He made good from the hard work done by his aunt and to some extent, his father, so, in the end, we all benefit from someone else’s celebrity!

      • Zach

Yeah, but Clooney has talent and actually does something with it.

      • AltDave

Wrong, Theresa. Clooney got his foot in the door because of his aunt and father. He has achieved his fame and success due to his own talent and labors.

      • candacetx

most people only remember George and do not connect him to his Aunt or his Father. That’s how you know he is a celebrity in his own right.

      • Nettie

Who is George Clooney? Where have you been, hiding under a rock? Get yourself educated before you comment on things you pretty much know nothing about.

      • cregis

I am so glad to read that there are some other people who aren’t crazy about George Clooney. I did love Rosemary but to me George is just average. I’ve been mad for years that George is such a big star when a really sexy guy like Adrian Paul gets stuck in straight to DVD, but this is just my opinion.

    • Tony

What has Chaz Bono done to be a star? This show is never going to have real stars. They aren’t going to practice 25+ hours per week so Len can tell them they need to point their toes.

    • RaRa

Heather Mills had no real fame other than being the ex of Paul McCartney. The show has a precedent for spouses or children of stars being on the show.

      • A

Right, look at Rob Kardashian. If you ever watch the Kardashian shows you’ll see he does nothing

  • Saunders

Elisabetta Canalis is an amazing dancer. It is a shame that she was eliminated. It was an exceptional performance, just wonderful.
I didn’t notice her until she ditched everything that concealed her incredible physique for the latest anti-fur ads for PETA and I was overwhelmed by her sexiness. She has an excellent body overall. This amazingly curvaceous and sensual woman is pure Italian perfection.

    • Zach

She looked nice in that photo spread you’re talking about…but “curvaceous”? She certainly didn’t have curves on DWTS. I think half the people watching took one look at her and said, “What did George Clooney ever see in HER?”

    • Barb

I think she is too skinny, not curvaceous at all. And her rotten attitude sort of cancelled out her dancing ability.

      • Carla

and, I felt her movement was not graceful but stiff and uninspired. I do think in all fairness Chaz should have gone home though.

  • Holland

Why do people still call Chaz a “man”? She still has her female plumbing intact.

    • BH

Let’s just hope he/she doesn’t do Playboy. I wouldn’t want to see what’s under those clothes.

    • Jaded

Why do you care what people call Chaz? Does it affect your life in some way if Chaz is a man?

    • RaRa

They call Chaz a man because she has asked us to! It doesn’t hurt anyone, so I don’t really have a problem with others who choose to call her “him”. It doesn’t make a difference to my life either way.

  • Tyna

Truth is that we are not such a land of Freedom as we prentend to be. I was born American, I’m proud of being an American woman…on the other side I had the chance to travel the world and to live abroad and I realized how at times Americans think we are the best country and people, but it’s not always true (just think that the majority of Americans don’t even have a passport, and some of them never travel out their own State). We miss a lot of opportunities when we close doors to other cultures, without letting them to express themselves.
I didn’t know Canalis but I thought she was brave to be in a foreign country trying to find a place for herself, speaking a language that was not hers.
What Freedom do we show America has if we “kill” someone’s opportunity just because they are “diferent” from us? Love

    • Sandy

What?? She was not eliminated because she was Italian – it was because she was nasty to her pro partner & that put off viewers – so they didn’t vote for her. Giles made it all the way to the final & came in 2nd by less than 1% over an all american gold medal gymnast – he was French. Get a clue. America is the best country to live in & I’m proud to be an American – you can always use your passport to relocate if we are so awful.

      • Zach

Foreign nationality DOES hurt you in this competition. Mel B. was bottom 2 once because her American fanbase wasn’t as strong. She and Gilles ultimately stayed in a long time because the judges always kept them at or near the top of the leaderboard, and deservedly so. Elisabetta wasn’t a good enough dancer, had no built-in fanbase for any reason, and wasn’t appealing on the show. She had a lot going against her.

      • Tony

I thought her pro partner was nasty to her.

    • RaRa

I don’t think it’s xenophobia as much as the fact that we aren’t as familiar with some of the foreign entertainers. If we haven’t seen them on one of our favorite TV shows, we probably won’t be voting for them. That’s just human nature, no matter what nationality you are.

    • Mellissa

PLEASE! Many of the most popular pros are not American–Maks, Dmitry, Anna, Kym, Tony, Louie…

      • A

        Louie?

  • Cheryl

Can’t say I’m too upset about Elisabetta going. She’s only famous for sleeping with Clooney ( nice claim to fame) anyway. She really came off as a petulant, spolied child. Boo Hoo. Pretty girl, but get a real job. I am glad to see Chaz hanging in there. He has spirit and personality! And for the dumbass who posted earlier, Chaz is famous for his work as an activist fighting discrimination based on a person’s sexual identity. What have you done that is worthwhile lately? The judges decide the dancing expertise. The public decides how appealing the dancer is for whatever reason. I’d vote for character over “abs” any day in males or females.

  • Sara

Canalis’ bad-tempered treatment of her pro partner Val sunk her. She was so rude and patronizing when things didn’t go her way. America doesn’t vote for that.

    • Theresa

Her comments to Val were totally acceptable given his rude and obnoxious treatment of her. She reacted in a normal way. The show’s producers should have had a long talk with Val the Superior to remind him that he is not the Star, but rather the one to help the Star perform well and talking to EC that way was not the way to achieve that end.!

      • Zach

I agree with you that Val was really the one who was being rude and hard to work with. But ultimately, viewers are voting for the couple, not just the celebrity, especially when it’s a celebrity like Elisabetta who doesn’t have a built-in fanbase or is famous for any appealing reason. Bottom line, Elisabetta’s short-lived tenure on DWTS was marred by too much negativity for her to last long unless the judges were to have scored her significantly higher than most if not everyone else.

    • RaRa

Sounds like the posters are split on who was most rude and obnoxious – Elizabetta or Val. Either way, there’s your answer on why she was eliminated! Between the two of them, people just didn’t want to see more of them.

      • Mellissa

See, I’m curious if they didn’t have an accent, if their tone may have sounded different. I’ve notice with people who speak English as a second language that sometimes the tone isn’t exactly right.

  • Meg

She really doesn’t think anything. Too many injectables.

  • BH

It is and always be a popularity contest. If they want to avoid that, the judges need to be the deciding factor.

    • Cheryl

BH, maybe you haven’t competed where judges are used- but there is NO guarantee the judges won’t be as biased or more biased than anyone else. That actually makes it WORSE for the contestants because one or two judges hold ALL the power! Check out how the ratings work on this show on their website. It’s actually quite fair and done through percentages.

    • Zach

I have to say the judges DID score pretty fairly this week as far as Elisabetta was concerned (though Ricki and Rob were overscored and J.R. and Hope underscored). Elisabetta was much better this week, but still not great, and she was still the worst entertainer. They made it harder for her to leave, but she still did. With her personality, dance skills, and lack of fanbase, it was inevitable.
