White powder found in letter addressed to 'Dancing With the Stars'

Los Angeles police determined that a white powder found Wednesday in a letter addressed to the television show Dancing With the Stars was harmless, authorities said.

The suspicious white powder was found around 2 p.m. in a mailroom at CBS Television City, a large studio complex, according to Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

A hazardous materials team was called in to gather the powder and test it before declaring it harmless. No one was exposed to the powder and no injury has been reported, French said. The envelope was addressed to the show, not a specific participant, he said.

“Outside of mail room operations being suspended for a few hours, no business operations or show productions were affected,” said CBS spokesman Chris Ender. He declined comment on what safety precautions CBS may take in the future.

White powder has repeatedly been discovered in the mail at CBS Television City. A similarly harmless envelope of white powder was sent to Dancing With the Stars in November 2010, days before the finale where Jennifer Grey, Kyle Massey and Bristol Palin faced off for the prize.

In August of this year, an envelope addressed to The Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson was packed with white powder and a threatening letter. That letter came from overseas, and the powder was also found to be harmless.

Television City houses production for many television shows, including ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, Fox’s American Idol and The Price is Right.

  • DEAR EW

Your AVENGERS cover is the worst photoshop job known to man!

    • UGH

Yeah, what the hell is Thor looking at? RDJ looks like he’s putting his head on a cardboard cutout.
Why did EW stop letting people comment on the upcoming covers?

      • Because lisa g sucks…

I wondered that same thing about Thor.

      • UGH

        Also,
I didn’t know Mark Ruffalo/Bruce Banner was supposed to be a vampire before changing into the Hulk.

      • Because lisa g sucks…

I actually thought Mark R was the annoying fire dude from “X-Men.”

      • KC

I’m sure the “mysterious white powder” was somebody’s cocaine.

      • KC

        So….Black Widow is a bobble-head?

      • ^

        So’s Iron Man.

      • nodnarb

They stopped letting us comment because we kept pointing out that their covers suck.

  • Because lisa g sucks…

Yeah—it’s not the best cover for even displaying who the characters ARE. I had no idea Mark R was the Hulk—why not put him in makeup?

Joss Whedon will single-handedly ruin this film. Look at how he @#$%ed up Cap’s uniform. The one he wore in his own movie this past Summer was fine. This one is too bright. I wonder how many corny one-liners RDJ will be forced to spew out?

      • Cris

Well, thanks. Now I don’t need to waste my time or money watching the movie, since you seem to know that Joss Whedon will ruin it based on photos on the cover of a magazine that comes out 9 months before the movie. Please continue to regale us with your brilliant clairvoyance whenever you have the opportunity.
And for the record, Joss Whedon will be the only reason this movie kicks ass.

        One of those Whedonerds.

      • Listenhere….

How lame is the name Joss…….

      • yupo

I hope it’s really bad…just to piss you off.

  • @UGH

I think EW was tired of having the majority of the comments directed at them having too many Twilight covers and crappy photography altogether.

  • DenverDean

DWTS has an “E List” cast, so they resort to these stunts. Sad, really.

  • Jenn

I have watched the show from the beginning and find that the “Stars” that are on the show, are really bad. I feel sorry for the pro dancers. Where do you get these “STARS”. Please get some that are pleasing to look at. Thanks
