'Up All Night' scoop: Maya Rudolph will date...

Maya Rudolph’s character is about to get herself a good guy on NBC’s Up All Night.

EW has learned exclusively that Ava — the self-absorbed boss of new mom Reagan (Christina Applegate) will begin dating a man who’s been described as ” a sweet, single dad who is clean cut and attractive.” And the new love interest will be played by …

Jason Lee!

The former star of My Name is Earl will play Kevin on the single-camera comedy that airs Wednesdays on NBC. He’ll first appear in November.

Lee, meanwhile, is awaiting word from TNT to see if his drama Memphis Beat, in which he plays a quirky police detective named Dwight Hendricks, will be picked up for a third season.

    O I thought for sure it’d be Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs!

This is bound to be hilarious!

I thought Ava already had a Stedman-esque guy? I probably missed an episode, but I thought the name was even similar.

I love Jason Lee in Memphis Beat. It’s lightyears better than my name is Earl. I truly hope Memphis Beats get’s a Green light. Only twinty episodes over two season are just to little for the lovers. I have not watched Up all night.. a bit overfull on the comedy side of watching television.

I still miss My Name is Earl, although reruns are nice. Memphis Beat is a great show with interesting stories and a wonderful cast, I hope it’s renewed.

It should be hilarious to have Lee on Up All Night. But I agree, Memphis Beat is a great show, I hope it’s renewed. But I am tired of what seems to have become a stereotype of cop shows — they seem to have to have a black, female boss.

I have never heard of Memphis Beat. I read this site almost everyday.

EW tends to usually ignore crime procedurals. It is one of the better ‘cop’ shows on TV. One of the few I actually watch.

I was never that big a fan of “My Name is Earl”, though it did have its moments, but I love Jason Lee in Memphis Beat. I really hope that show comes back. As for Up All Night, so far it hasn’t impressed me, but will tune in again and give it a chance because Cristina Applegate is one of my favorites.
