It never seemed possible and it turns out it wasn’t: Despite fears that Melody Thomas Scott — aka Nikki Newman – was leaving Young and the Restless for good, the actress has confirmed to EW that she signed a new deal to stay with the CBS sudser.

Like previous years, she was required to take a pay cut. (Hey, soap finances are not like they used to, something the actress freely acknowledges). But the upbeat Scott is only focusing on the positive: She secured a three-year deal to resume the beloved role of Victor’s on-and-off-again wife. READ FULL STORY »

Fred Savage will be busy behind and in front of the camera on the Happy Endings set next week: EW has learned that he is not only directing his second episode of the sophomore ABC comedy, this time he’ll be making a rare onscreen appearance, guest starring as himself. (We can’t give away too much, but let’s just say involves a bad date, Elisha Cuthbert’s Alex, and Savage providing live commentary for The Princess Bride.)

The former Wonder Years star reinvented himself as TV director years ago, helming episodes of such series as Modern Family, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Ugly Betty. Savage’s episode is slated to air sometime this fall, while season 2 of Happy Endings debuts Sept. 28.

'Fringe' Friday: New promo features flashes of Peter and meaty teases of premiere -- FIRST LOOK

One week away from the return of Fringe Friday, Fox has released a significant peek at the sci-fi saga’s season 4 premiere. The tease comes in the form of the fifth and final installment in a series of promos that began in July called “Where Is Peter Bishop?” — a reference to the season 3 cliffhanger that saw Joshua Jackson’s challenger of the unknown disappearing from existence after a trip through time. (Note how Peter’s quantum leaping is evoked in the graphic featured in all of “WIPB?” spots of the numeral 4, toppled over. The icon suggests both looping and branching theories of time travel.)  READ FULL STORY »

Charlie Sheen says he'd guest star on 'Men': Wait, what?

Charlie Sheen’s seemingly cold-sober, warlock-free round of humble media interviews continues this morning with his appearance on NBC’s Today show, where he told Matt Lauer he’d be up for a guest appearance on Two and a Half Men.

Wait. What? You mean the show in which his character dies in the upcoming season premiere?

Prompted by Lauer that he should do an “amazing guest appearance” on the comedy hit, Sheen said: READ FULL STORY »

'Vampire Diaries' premiere dips; 'Secret Circle' solid

Categories: Television, TV Ratings

How did The CW’s new Thursday block pairing returning hit The Vampire Diaries and newcomer The Secret Circle do in the ratings?

Not too shabby. Though Vampire Diaries (3 million viewers, 1.4 adults 18-49 rating) dipped from its premiere last year, The Secret Circle (3 million, 1.3) retained nearly all of its lead in from the network’s top-rated show. VD was down a pretty standard annual dip of 13 percent from last year’s debut. Secret Circle was down a tenth from Nikita‘s debut in the slot last year in the adult demo, but tied Nikita in the network’s 18-34 target demo (and with its stronger lead-in, the witchcraft drama managed to pull a higher number than Ringer‘s premiere on Tuesday). Welcome to Spoiler Room: Jen’s Edition. Kidding. But also not really. After wrapping up today’s column, I realized I chose four questions from people named Jen. I promise you, this is not an act of favoritism. But now I’m really curious how many of you are out there.

Regardless, if you ask, I’ll answer. So get askin’! Send your questions, ponderings, new show scoop requests, and post-premiere reactions to spoilerroom@ew.com. And if many of your names happen to be Jen, fantastic. (Your move, Sarahs.)

‘GREY’S ANATOMY’: FINALLY SOME MER/DER FOR YOU

I can’t tell you how often I get harassed lovingly asked for Meredith and Derek scoop, and after sitting through next week’s two-hour premiere with my mouth hanging open for 80 minutes (two hours, minus commercials), here’s what you’re going to get out of me on Mer/Der, Crowen, and Alex (who is sans nickname because he’s all alone. Poor Alex). READ FULL STORY »

'The Voice' winner Javier Colon to guest as Ray Charles on 'The Playboy Club'

Javier Colon‘s unique sound helped propel him to win the first season of The Voice, but now the singer will have to channel one of the most iconic voices of all-time: Ray Charles. NBC confirmed to EW that Colon will portray Ray Charles in an upcoming episode of The Playboy Club, in which he’ll sing “Let the Good Times Roll.”

But, Colon isn’t the only star stepping back in time — to the ’60s, to be precise — to portray a legend. Colbie Caillat will appear on the show as Lesley Gore, and will sing her classic “It’s My Party,” while Raphael Saadiq will portray Sam Cooke and croon “We’re Having a Party.” Perhaps taking a cue from American Dreams, The Playboy Club will continue to cast popular singers to play icons and perform on the show. (Billboard reports NBC is currently looking to cast singers to appear as James Brown, Roy Orbison, and possibly Frank Sinatra.)

The Playboy Club premieres on NBC on Monday, Sept. 19, at 10 p.m.

'The Sing-Off': Preview the new season with Digital Correspondent Sam Tsui -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Categories: Music, The Sing-Off

We’re less than a week away from the season 3 premiere of the glorious a cappellooza known as The Sing-Off, and as your faithful pun-counting, cardigan-complimenting recapper, I can barely contain my excitement!

EW has obtained an exclusive look behind the scenes of the show’s new season, which looks to be bigger and better than ever before now that it’s anchoring NBC’s Monday nights this fall. In the video below, The Sing-Off‘s new Digital Correspondent, Sam Tsui (whom I’ve watched on YouTube for years — I’m not just saying that, see?), takes us onto the Sony sound stage, and introduces us to some of the new contestants.

Who’s exciting me? Well, The Yellow Jackets look like they might be an early personal favorite — they seem goofy-and-proud like the criminally underrated On The Rocks were last year. Also, I’m excited about quintet The Cat’s Pajamas. They’ve got years of experience, and oftentimes, the groups with the fewest members create some of the best harmonies on the show. If they’re anything like Nashville crooners Street Corner Symphony (I still say they were robbed last year!), I’m looking forward to them.

Check out Mr. Tsui showing off his commendable a cappellaptitude (yet worrisome lack of pun usage) below! READ FULL STORY »

Charlie Sheen to Leno: 'I would have fired my ass too'

A surprisingly contrite Charlie Sheen took to NBC’s Tonight Show on Thursday night to talk about some of his outrageous behavior during the past several months.

Despite his lawsuit pending against Two and a Half Men studio Warner Bros. alleging that he was unfairly dismissed from the CBS hit, Sheen told host Jay Leno that his employers had good cause to let him go.

Leno asked the actor if he’s still angry at Men producers and CBS.

“No, no. I would have fired my ass too,” Sheen said, then added: “Well, maybe not like they did.”

Sheen said his rants spawned a media frenzy that was like “a runaway train that I was the reluctant conductor of — and it just kept going.” READ FULL STORY »
