'Nine Lives of Chloe King' cancelled at ABC Family -- EXCLUSIVE

Categories: Cable, TV Biz

ABC Family is cancelling freshman series Nine Lives of Chloe King, sources say.

The show was based on the book series by Liz Braswell about a girl who discovers that she is a descendant of an ancient race with cat-like powers.

The news comes as ABC Family is expected to order a pilot from Gilmore Girls writer Amy Sherman-Palladino called Strut, about a Las Vegas showgirl (take that Pat Robertson!) who marries a Texan and becomes a instructor for a misfit high school drill team. Network also expected to order an action-drama pilot Intercept about college crime fighters.

'Psych': Lou Gossett Jr. and Sara Rue to play Lassiter's new neighbors!

Categories: Psych, Scoop, Television, TV Scoop

Lassie’s got a new home — and it comes with two super-fun guest stars.

In an upcoming episode of Psych‘s upcoming season (kicking off Oct. 12), Lou Gossett Jr. and Sara Rue will play two of Lassiter’s (Timothy Omundson) new neighbors after the detective moves into a new (seemingly CURSED!) condo.

Gossett plays Lloyd, the creepy manager at the Overlook Gardens Condominium, where Lassiter sets up new digs. And Rue will play quirky nurse Amy Alleris, an overly friendly neighbor.

The two join the lengthy list of already-announced season 6 guest stars, which includes William Shatner, Danny Glover, and Kristy Swanson. Their episode is scheduled to air sometime in the second half of the season.

'America's Got Talent' exec producer: 'To me, it really doesn't matter who wins' -- EXCLUSIVE

America’s Got Talent crowned jazz singer Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. its season 6 winner on Wednesday’s star-studded finale, prompting many fans to wonder why — aside from season 2′s Terry Fator, who also sang sometimes in his acts — the winner of AGT has consistently been a solo singer.

“I think it just depends on the voters’ criteria,” executive producer Jason Raff tells EW. “Is their criteria ‘a Vegas act’ or just ‘someone they think is amazing and the best act in America’? Some people just want to pick someone who they think is really talented. It may be easier for them to identify sometimes with a single person as opposed to a group. When you know a single person as ‘Landau’ as opposed to [fellow finalists] iLuminate or Silhouettes, which is just a bunch of people — you know, people might love it and think it’s an amazing act, but they just don’t get motivated to pick up the phone.”  READ FULL STORY »

Did you know 'Community' season 2 was really a moody psycho-sexual thriller? -- VIDEO

Categories: Community, First Look

Thought you were watching a fun, lighthearted romp last season on Community? Maybe you should re-think that drink. As you can see in this film trailer montage video below, courtesy of NBC.com, there are deep, dark tensions snaking through the Greendale campus, thanks to the three-headed serpent named Jeff-Annie-Britta. Was this Fatal Attraction-like video a hint about the psycho-sexual direction of the new season (which starts next Thursday, by the way)? Consider this: When Joel McHale was asked in last week’s issue of EW whom Jeff would romantically target next, he answered, “It’s going back to Annie. That said, because Jeff and Britta have had secret sex for a year, it’s not as simple as you think.” Press play and remember: People aren’t playthings.  READ FULL STORY »

'30 Rock' scoop: Who should play Liz Lemon's next lover?

30-rock

It would be pretty hard to top Jon Hamm and Matt Damon but 30 Rock is going to try: The NBC comedy just put out a casting call for a man ages 36-40 (talk about a very particular age window!) who can play Liz Lemon’s next love interest. Here’s the official description: “California-bred with liberal values and a youthful innocence. Easy-going but confident with a strong sense of self.” The role would definitely involve a multiple-episode commitment.

The comedy is asking for stars as well as lesser-known names, so just about any Hollywood hunk could get the chance to snuggle with Liz. Still, we prefer the idea of a big star to play opposite the great Tina Fey. Who says Armie Hammer couldn’t portray a California-bred babe? Or wouldn’t Channing Tatum pretty up the halls of TGS? (Okay, so maybe we’re not totally sticking to that 36-40 age window, but a girl can still dream, right?)

Help the good folks of 30 Rock and take our poll! Or suggest one of your own. Just remember: Patrick Wilson is booked on CBS’ A Gifted Man so that California babe is taken (for now). READ FULL STORY »

Rebecca Romijn proved she can kick major butt in the X-Men films and now, she’s bringing her lethal moves to Chuck‘s final season.

EW has learned exclusively that the actress will appear in the sixth episode of the upcoming season (which starts Oct. 21) as Robyn Cunnings, an elite Special Agent with the CIA who’s as cold and calculating as she is sexy, and is known for her barbaric (yet highly effective) interrogation techniques.

As expected, her appearance brings nothing but bad news for Chuck and Co. Her character is said to be a member of a rogue group within the CIA that is planning to frame Chuck for the crime of the century.

Romijn, who is currently appearing on the Adult Swim comedy series NTSF:SD:SUV, last graced network TV on ABC’s Eastwick and Ugly Betty.

'The Secret Circle': Five reasons to love Kevin Williamson's new show

Tonight, the CW follows the season 3 premiere of The Vampire Diaries with the series debut of The Secret Circle (9 p.m. ET), another twisty tale from TVD exec producer Kevin Williamson and Andrew Miller. The set-up: Newly orphaned Cassie (Britt Robertson) moves in with her grandmother in Chance Harbor, Wash., and learns that she’s a teen witch whose arrival in town completes a circle with five classmates. They’ll have to bind their heightened powers to control them and uncover what happened to their parents 16 years ago — when many of them, also witches, died — so they can protect themselves if it happens again. Here are five reasons we’re already loving The Secret Circle:

• The pace: There will be an open-and-shut problem of the week, but as with Vampire Diaries, there’s an overarching mythology that will unfold over the course of the season. It may not have the breakneck speed of TVD‘s second season, but it will have the satisfying flow of TVD‘s first season, Williamson says. “You can blame 24 for that,” he adds. “I watched every episode of 24 at least 2 times because I was in love with that show and Jack Bauer, and for some reason, that pace just stuck with me and this is my interpretation of that. While it’s no 24, it certainly has a rhythm that I hope is fun to watch.”  READ FULL STORY »

'Nightmare on Elm Street' star joins 'Hawaii 5-0' for Halloween -- EXCLUSIVE

Robert-Englund

Here’s a scary yet brilliant casting move by Hawaii 5-0 for its Halloween episode: The islanders are about to get a visit from Freddy Krueger!

EW has learned exclusively that Robert Englund, a cult favorite best known for his wildly successful run in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, will play a homeless desert storm veteran who hangs around an ancient burial site and becomes a suspect in a murder investigation.

Englund’s other recent TV appearances have included spots on Supernatural, Chuck and Bones. He last donned the razor-sharp knife hand and disfigured face in 2003.

5-0′s second season is shaping up to be a big one in terms of intriguing guest stars. Besides a multi-episode arc with Terry O’Quinn, the drama booked Tom Sizemore for an arc and just lured another Lost star to the mix. NCIS: LA‘s Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) will also appear in an upcoming episode of the show’s second season.

'Vampire Diaries': Ian Somerhalder talks nude practical joke played on Nina Dobrev; plus more season 3 teases

There are a lot of practical jokes on the set of The Vampire Diaries, but it’s tough to imagine anything topping the one Ian Somerhalder played on Nina Dobrev while shooting tonight’s season 3 premiere (The CW, 8 p.m. ET). Dobrev actually told EW about it first but insisted we ask Somerhalder for the full story.

It happened when they were filming the scene where a naked, sudsy Damon surprises Elena. “Well, you know, you open up the cover page of season 3, episode 1, and it’s, like, the first half a page, Damon’s already naked. So I’d spent almost two days on set completely naked, which is kinda awesome, because as if I wasn’t close enough to our crew members, I feel really close after that,” he laughs. “So our first AD Rudy, at like 8 o’clock in the morning, came up to me and says, ‘Hey listen, I have an idea.’ When Rudy has an idea, it’s usually pretty good. It was that I should go to the prop master, another genius part of our show, and have them make some elephant ears. The first thing we see is Nina’s reaction, so what if I was completely naked and we had elephant ears and double-stick tape, and I put them on each of my thighs, and ultimately, she would be staring at a very small, young elephant. The reaction that we got was f—ing amazing. I hope and pray that that is what we used in the edit because it was such a natural ‘Ohmygod!’ reaction.”
