'Entourage' team committed to doing a movie

An Entourage movie seems even more inevitable now: The series finale on HBO Sunday featured an end-of-episode scene in which Jeremy Piven’s Ari Gold is offered the chance to assume the chairmanship of a major Hollywood studio. Will Ari renege on the deal he made with his wife to spend a year Italy and, instead, return to the fast line?

That’s definitely a question that can be answered on the big screen, and the team behind the series indicated this summer that it’s their next priority. “We’re going to do a movie,” said creator Doug Ellin at the TV critics press tour. “We’re going to do it. It’s a question of when and how quick. We’ll sit down and come up with an idea.”

Exec producer Mark Wahlberg was also bullish on the prospect: “Well, I said if I had to finance myself, I’d do it. I certainly hope it has a chance to become a feature film, everybody always says the episodes are too short. [Viewers] want to go on a journey. The Hangover to me is like Entourage.”

Agreed Jeremy Piven: “I think [the final season] is a gratifying way to finish, yet I also feel we could transition into a movie.”

'Kate Plus 8' series finale sneak peek -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Categories: Reality TV, Television

It is an end of an era, indeed. After seven years, Kate Plus 8, formerly called Jon & Kate Plus 8, finally signs off with its series finale tonight. Last month, TLC announced the cancellation of the series, which stars Kate Gosselin and her eight children with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, with this statement: “TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8. By the end of this season Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8); an exceptional milestone. TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future.”

The show concludes its run by looking back at some of the family’s favorite memories from birthday parties to family outings. Kate also discusses her very public divorce. “You can say the show did it, which I’ll always say it didn’t. I mean, all the signs were always there. If you turned on a camera and caught it, great. If not, it would have happened anyway.” READ FULL STORY »

NFL season opener biggest in 15 years

Categories:

America was definitely ready for some football: NBC’s opening telecast of Sunday Night Football featuring the Cowboys versus the Jets posted a 16.9 rating/27 share on overnights — the best showing for week 1 gridiron action since Sept. 2, 1996 (Cowboys/Bears, 20.2/33 on ABC).

These are early results based on metered markets; final, more detailed numbers will come later.

The game was up 3 percent over last year’s opener between the Cowboys and the Redskins and up 26 percent over the 2009 start featuring the Bears and the Packers. The game peaked from 11:30 to 11:45 p.m. ET when it generated an 18.2/34.

'Survivor: South Pacific': Ozzy on what went wrong with Amanda and whether there will be 'jungle love' this time around

Remember how cute and cuddly Ozzy and Amanda were on Survivor: Micronesia? They were the go-to showmance for that Fans vs. Favorites season, with cameras even catching Survivor‘s first and only hot and steamy make-out session. (If you ever wondered why more couples don’t hook up on the show — as opposed to the infamous pool orgies on Big Brother — just take a look at how dirty and smelly they are out in the elements and you’ll have your answer.) But it didn’t work once these two lovebirds made their way back to the big, bad city. In our chat the day before filming began on Survivor: South Pacific, Ozzy explains what exactly happened on the island (“I’m sure there is a lot of footage that would not be suitable for home viewers, if you know what I mean.”), what went wrong when they returned home, and how he worried producers would bring Amanda and him both back to play against each other this time around as some sort of sick joke. He also says that even though his case of “jungle love” may have cost him the game last time, that he’s not against hooking up with a hottie all over again. (Oh, Ozzy, you rascal, you!) To see Ozzy tell his tale of love and loss, grab a box of Kleenex and click on the video player below. Then make sure to check him out discussing his thoughts about possibly getting voted out of the tribe…on purpose. And for more Survivor news and views all season long, follow me on Twitter @EWDaltonRoss. Take it away, Ozzy… READ FULL STORY »

Last week, it was reported that Sam Poueu, a contestant from the ninth season of The Biggest Loser, was in critical condition at a San Francisco hospital after sustaining a pelvic injury, punctured lung, broken leg, and torn ligaments after a fall from a building on Sept. 3. (On Sept. 6 Biggest Loser host Ali Sweeney tweeted, “Right on!! RT @vicgrimes4life: @Ali_Sweeney Can I get a RT? For Sam Poueu (bl9) to continue to fight and for a complete recovery.”)

Since then, Poueu’s family, as well as his fiance and fellow Biggest Loser alum Stephanie Anderson, have explained to People what exactly happened to the reality star. READ FULL STORY »

Some new folks are headed to Cleveland: Comedienne Sandra Bernhard and talk-show maven Kathie Lee Gifford have recently signed on to guest star in the upcoming third season of TV Land’s original comedy Hot in Cleveland, EW can exclusively confirm, and we’ve got some details about their roles.

Both women will actually be appearing in roles with which they’re rather familiar. Bernhard is set to play the love interest of Melanie’s (Valerie Bertinelli) lesbian sister, which hearkens to the  role she played on Roseanne years ago. Her episode has yet to be scheduled.  READ FULL STORY »

CW eyes 'Sex and the City' prequel

As anticipated, the CW is serious about getting into the Carrie Bradshaw business.

The fifth network is about to close a deal for a script based on The Carrie Diaries, Candice Bushnell’s book about Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years. Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will shepherd the new version should it go to pilot and (if Carrie fans are lucky) to series next fall. Former Sex and the City scribe/co-producer Amy B. Harris will also join in on the fun.

The Carrie Diaries starts with Carrie’s senior year in high school in the 1980s and continues to her first internship in New York City. Samantha Jones is in the story, but the other SATC characters are not.

The project fares from HBO and its sister studio, Warner Bros. TV.

Not everyone is keen on a prequel. At last month’s Television Critics Tour, the longtime Sex and the City show runner Michael Patrick King all but pooh-poohed the idea. “My Carrie Bradshaw started at 33, and I took her to 43. I didn’t even want to know who Carrie Bradshaw’s parents were because I thought she only existed in Manhattan,” he reportedly said. “The idea of going backwards and making her less evolved … is something that I don’t imagine doing.”

Starz, Lucy Lawless on Andy Whitfield's death: He was 'a champion'

Starz released a statement Sunday reacting to the tragic news that former Spartacus star Andy Whitfield had succumbed to cancer.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Andy Whitfield,” said Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht. “We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in Spartacus and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life. Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and fans.”

Whitfield’s Spartacus co-star Lucy Lawless also paid tribute to him in a statement to EW: “Obviously, Andy Whitfield left an indelible mark on all of us in the Spartacus family. He was a gentle man who never said a bad word about anyone, a gifted photographer, engineer (no really!) and a brilliant actor. Andy’s incandescent film presence made men want to be him and women want to marry him. Andy’s  two babies will always know that their Daddy cherished them and their mother, Vashti, above all things. How lucky we were to have him grace all our lives. Godspeed, Andy!”

“No words to express the depth of such a loss. You will be deeply missed, my brother,” said Spartacus creator Steven DeKnight on Twitter. READ FULL STORY »
