Looks like it’s not so bad being the new girl.

Fox just announced it has ordered an additional 11 episodes of its freshman comedy, New Girl, bringing the full order to 24 episodes.

The Zooey Deschanel show, which premiered last week and was Fox’s highest-rated sitcom debut ever, held up this week in the ratings, retaining 92 percent of its premiere audience. It also earned an impressive 5.2 rating in the all-important 18-34 demographic.

'Real World San Diego' roommates sorta come to blows -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Categories: EW Exclusive, Reality TV

Jersey Shore‘s Mike and Ronnie may have perfected the art of a non-physical fight, but two of Real World‘s newest cast-members are about to take it to the next level.

Premiering tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV, the series heads to San Diego with a diverse set of roommates that include a self-described “stud lesbian,” and a professional football player who likes to chase cougars in his spare time. Of course, with all the different personalities in the house, it’s only a matter of time before things start getting real. (See what I did there?)

In an exclusive clip from the upcoming season, former frat boy Nate reluctantly confesses that seeing his roommate Frank hookup with a guy made him feel uncomfortable. Shirts are off, words are yelled (and subsequently bleeped out), glass is shattered on the floor, and tears are shed, as the ex-”besties” (Nate’s word, not mine) face some ugly truths about prejudices in the house.

Watch the almost brawl below and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments. READ FULL STORY »

Ashton Kutcher: Genius marketing man or annoying peddler?

two-and-a-half-men

Less than eight minutes into the second episode of Two and a Half Men, Ashton Kutcher — as the internet billionaire Walden Schmidt — is seen lounging on the couch with his laptop open, annoying the crap out of his ex on the phone. But it’s not the conversation that is significant (though his yuk about using baby shampoo is pretty funny). It’s his laptop: Stuck to the top of his computer are a series of bright-colored decals touting specific companies, including ones favored by the actor himself.

Turns out the stickers represent a bunch of companies that Kutcher has a financial stake in — including Foursquare, Hipmunk,  Flipboard and GroupMe, as reported by Variety. Another decal touts the company Chegg, which Kutcher isn’t personally invested in but receives social-media help from the actor’s production company, Katalyst. Look who’s winning now! 'New Girl' keeps her cool; 'NCIS' and Mark Harmon still hot on CBS

New-Girl

Fox’s youthful lineup of Glee, New Girl, and Raising Hope gave the network a win in the key demos like adults 18-49 on Tuesday, even though CBS’s ever-powerful NCIS continues to rule the 9 p.m. hour.

At 8, Glee posted a 3.6 rating/10 share and 8.3 million viewers — not enough to outrank Mark Harmon and Co. (4.2/12, 19.1 million viewers) but still super among 18-34 (3.9/12) and teens (3.9/15), according to early results. But the bragging rights go to New Girl (4.4/11, 9.2 million), which not only retained 92 percent of its series premiere ratings, but won its timeslot among 18-34 (5.2/15). Can we say officially that the kids are digging that Zooey Deschanel?

Geek goddess Sonya Walger is coming back to TV: The Lost and FlashForward star has landed a series regular role in USA’s upcoming Common Law.

In the buddy cop drama, Warren Kole and Michael Ealy play homicide detectives whose constant quarreling gets them sent to couples therapy. Their shrink? Walger, who will co-star as Dr. Emma Ryan, a smart, attractive psychiatrist with a keen sense of humor. She graduated at the top of her class and started a practice in Beverly Hills but started to feel like a pill dispenser to her rich clientele. To fill the void, Dr. Ryan started offering low-cost Alcoholics Anonymous and couples’ group therapy at the local community center where she applies her strong insight into the relationship between these two police partners.

Walger famously played Penny on Lost and has also been in In Treatment and Tell Me You Love Me. Common Law starts production from CBS TV Studios in New Orleans next month for a 2012 premiere on USA. Led by White Collar and Covert Affairs, the network just had its most-watched third quarter in the network’s history — averaging 3.5 million viewers and easily ranking as the most-watched cable network.

'American Horror Story': Watch the terrifying opening credits sequence -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

FX’s new series American Horror Story is without a doubt one of the scariest things ever produced for television. Usually you have to hit up a multiplex for the kind of jolts delivered by this thriller, but creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (Glee) have crafted a small-screen roller coaster ride. The series follows the Harmon Family — husband Ben (Dylan McDermott), wife Vivian (Connie Britton), daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) — as they move into an old Los Angeles home with a dark history. For example, the home’s basement not only is in need of dusting but also might be the resting place of a serious evil creature, seen in the Oct. 5 premiere. And then there’s the man in the rubber fetish suit…

Even scarier than all this? AHS’s opening credits sequence, which EW is exclusively premiering today. READ FULL STORY »

'Survivor: South Pacific': Exposed boobs and dead bunnies! The contestants share their most embarrassing moments ever

Being on national television can be a humiliating experience. So before Survivor: South Pacific commenced filming, I decided to get the contestants ready for the experience by having them share their most embarrassing stories ever, and boy did I get more than I bargained for. Who mistakenly flashed her upper half lady-parts in public? Who one-upped that by mistakenly flashing her lower half lady-parts? And which woman completed the titillating trifecta with an on-location pre-game incident that left her wishing she had done “more waxing”? That’s all just the tip of the mortifying iceberg, which also includes two of the most disgusting school-set stories I’ve ever heard — and I’ve heard plenty. Of course, their pain is our gain, so to enjoy this cringe-worthy collection of tales, just click on the video player below. And for more Survivor scoop all season long, follow me on Twitter @EWDaltonRoss. READ FULL STORY »

Fox and HBO lead the broadcast and cable networks, respectively, with the most lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender characters on television, according to the “Where We Are on TV” report released today by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The 16th annual survey shows that LGBT characters account for 2.9 percent of scripted series regulars on the broadcast networks, which is down from a high of 3.9 percent last fall. Cable, too, has fewer portrayals: There are 29 LGBT characters on mainstream cable networks this year, which is on par with last year but down from a high of 40 in 2008. Additionally, GLAAD notes that it counted 25 recurring characters on cable. READ FULL STORY »

Chaz Bono on his 'Dancing with the Stars' injuries: He's taking a pounding!

Two things could have taken Chaz Bono out of the Dancing with the Stars competition — his low scores and his aching knees and ankle. But not only did he escape elimination on Tuesday, he’s not going to let the pain get in his way going into week 3.

“We have a very simple style of dance this week,” Bono told reporters after the show. “We have the rumba, so it’s slow. It’s pretty easy, and we are going to try and work around it as much as we can.” READ FULL STORY »

'Dancing with the Stars' eliminated contestant: 'I'm going back to horseback riding'

With a bottom-of-the-leaderboard score of 17 and a sore knee to boot, Chaz Bono looked as if he was heading home on Tuesday. But fans ultimately had more love for the son of Cher and less so for another (far less famous) celebrity. For some parting words from the week 2 eliminated contestant, go to the jump.

Just because ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CW are rolling out all their finest, doesn’t mean all the cable networks have hung out the Gone Fishin’ signs. There are still plenty of good series to look forward to from the likes of Showtime, TLC, BBC America et al. (Well, except maybe Texas Multi Mamas on WE. What the heck is that?) READ FULL STORY »

'Happy Endings': Watch Dave's musical massacre in the season premiere -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Happy-Endings

If you don’t want to wait until Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. to get Happy, when the ABC comedy returns for a second season, simply direct your attention to the “below” part of your screen. In this clip from the episode — which is a half-hour spectacle featuring nasty jambalaya, frolf (frisbee golf), too many cats, and a Roaring Twenties party — an attempt by Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and altar-abandoned fiancé Dave (Zachary Knighton) to strengthen their friendship with more honesty has gone sour, which will result in partygoers being subjected to a performance of Dave’s awesomely terrible ballad “Love to the Power of Love.”  READ FULL STORY »
