'CSI: NY' stages a 'Once and Again' reunion -- EXCLUSIVE

Jeffrey-Nordling

Once and Again fans, this news is for you: EW has learned exclusively that Jeffrey Nordling will reunite with Sela Ward for a two-episode arc airing in November.

Nordling will play a U.S. senator who is still miffed at the way Jo (Ward) handled a rape case involving his daughter, Serena (played by newcomer Jenn Proske). The senator comes to New York City when his daughter’s rapist is arrested on a new case and applies pressure to make sure things aren’t screwed up the second time around.

Nordling played Ward’s ex-husband Jake on Once and Again, which ran on ABC from 1999 to 2002. Other more recent credits for Nordling include Body of Proof and Desperate Housewives.

'Walking Dead' scoop: 'Rescue Me' star joins season 2 cast

Michael-Zegen

More potential fresh meat for the zombies: AMC’s The Walking Dead has just cast a new recurring character for its hotly anticipated season two.

Michael Zegen has signed on for the recurring role of Randall (nope, he’s not in the comic books, he’s a new addition to the storyline). Randall is described as a skinny Southern kid who finds himself in a rather unique set of post-apocalypse circumstances. Beyond that, producers are staying mum on the role.

Zegen played a firefighter on Rescue Me and also appeared in the film Adventureland. Walking Dead shambles back to the air on Oct. 16. And don’t you know, it’s season two poster got an “A” grade in our fall TV posters graded gallery.

Charlie Sheen roast ratings set network record (but it's a lot less than 'Men')

Have Comedy Central viewers ever been more ready and willing to see a celebrity roasted than Charlie Sheen?

Apparently not: Monday night’s telecast became the network’s most-watched roast ever, drawing 6.4 million viewers — roughly double the audience of previous roasts for the likes of David Hasselhoff and Donald Trump. The 90-minute telecast ripped Sheen’s drug use, relationships with women and losing his Two and a Half Men job. Of course, as big of a number as that is for Comedy Central, it’s still a lot less than the 28 million that tuned into his former sitcom. The roast aired shortly after CBS set ratings records without Sheen on its revamped Men starring Ashton Kutcher.

As harsh as the comics and celebrities were to Sheen, the roast wasn’t as rough as the original taping. Jokes that were cut from the Comedy Central show include a punchline that referenced the tragic 2003 nightclub fire during a Great White concert, and a joke about Casey Anthony’s deceased toddler.

'Parks and Recreation': Exec producer Mike Schur gives you a season 4 preview!

Scramble up some pre-birds, assemble a tray of zerts, and grab a couple of food rakes: It’s finally time to dig into the fourth season of Parks and Recreation. But before you reconnect with your favorite local government employees this Thursday at 8:30 p.m., check out what exec producer Mike Schur revealed to EW about the upcoming action.

• Leslie must choose between two loves.

“Leslie (Amy Poehler) and Ben (Adam Scott) realize that if she’s running for office and anyone in town finds out that she’s sleeping with Ben, who’s essentially her boss, that’s the kind of thing that can really sink a campaign. She attacks the problem from every angle and comes to the conclusion that there’s no way to have a relationship and to follow her dream of running for office. So, the premiere is about her trying to make a decision about which one she wants to do. The first half of the year is about her living with that decision and trying to imagine the road not taken…. The last scene in the premiere is the everything-comes-to-a-head scene with Ben and Leslie. It’s a very interesting, fraught scene. And it was Grade-A acting on both of their parts.  I’m really excited to see how people react.” READ FULL STORY »

'Sopranos' star coming to 'CSI: Miami' -- EXCLUSIVE

Drea-DeMatteo

CSI: Miami is about to get a little hotter with the addition of a fan-favorite Sopranos star.

Drea de Matteo is set to guest star on the CBS hit during November sweeps, and she has what sounds like a fun role on the show: de Matteo plays a sexy and smart poker player who’s the only woman competing in a dangerous, high-stakes illegal game. When the game is robbed and a man is murdered, we learn she’s actually a devoted mother out to avenge the attempted murder of her son in a similar robbery that left him disabled.

In other words: “It sounds like this poker player” [puts on sunglasses] “is trying to flush out a killer.” [YEAAAAHHH!]

“We’re thrilled to have an actress of Drea’s caliber on the show,” says Miami executive producer Barry O’Brien. “We all fell in love with her as Adriana on The Sopranos and watching her bring a complex and nuanced character to life is a revelation.” In recent years, de Matteo has arcs on Desperate Housewives and Sons of Anarchy. And though her role on Miami isn’t for a couple months, you can catch the crime drama when it returns on Sunday night at 10 p.m.

'Two and a Half Men' ratings huge! Ashton Kutcher debut delivers series high

Categories: TV Ratings

two-and-a-half-men-ashton

Two and a Half Men premiere ratings are in. And they’re jaw dropping. Stunningly huge.

The ninth season premiere, starring Ashton Kutcher taking over for Charlie Sheen, delivered 27.7 million viewers Monday night — that’s in the ballpark of an American Idol premiere.

Even more impressive: The sitcom scored a 10.3 rating among adults 18-49. That’s easily an all-time high for the show, and up 110 percent over last fall’s eighth-season debut with Sheen. Everybody expected the sitcom’s first new episode back would perform strong, but not like this (see Ken Tucker’s take here). Men had the highest-rated season premiere for a scripted series since Desperate Housewives premiered six years ago.

CBS’ entire comedy lineup was strong, with the night opening with back-to-back episodes of How I Met Your Mother (11.3 million, 4.7 and 12.2 million, 5.1, respectively) that were much higher than last fall’s premiere. Following Men, new comedy 2 Broke Girls did a giant 19.1 million viewers and a 7.0 rating — down, as one would expect, from its giant lead-in, but still likely to dwarf any other new scripted series debut this fall. The only CBS show that didn’t seem to benefit from the Men surge was Hawaii Five-0 (12 million, 3.4) at 10 p.m., which was down 13 percent from last fall, yet still won the 10 p.m. hour. David Arquette talks about 'Dancing with the Stars' and making TV shows with Courteney Cox

David Arquette’s ex Courteney Cox and their daughter Coco were in the house to celebrate the actor’s first performance Monday on Dancing with the Stars — a Viennese Waltz with Kym Johnson that earned him 18 points. Afterwards, Arquette said he’s always around the Cougar Town star since they are business partners on several projects, including a comedy about an ensemble of friends.

“We sold it to ABC. I’m not sure how much I’m supposed to tell because it’s not written yet,” Arquette told reporters afterwards. “We always pitch things. We are doing The Celebrity Name Game with Craig Ferguson hosting. We’re constantly pitching and
working together. It’s part of our life.”

Arquette dug the opportunity to dance for his daughter. “It was so sweet to see her there. It’s a dream for her to see all these amazing dancers and then for her dad to come out with Kym and do this routine. She loved it.” — With reporting from Carrie Borzillo

Chynna Phillips on 'Dancing with the Stars': 'Orphans were dancing around me.' Huh?

Chynna-Phillips

Chynna Phillips would like to thank all of the little people for her premiere performance on Dancing with the Stars.

She means that literally: When she broke into a solo during her Viennese Waltz with Tony Dovolani, the singer claims she “literally felt the angels of the orphanage that I work with” and how “all the little kids were dancing around with me.” When Phillips first joined the show, she said she wanted to raise awareness about the “40,000 orphans running the streets of Tijuana.”

“They were dancing around me. I could feel them. And I could feel their energy,” Phillips told reporters after her performance that helped her earn one of the highest scores of the night. (She earned a 22 and tied with JR Martinez). “We are on a mission to build a 60-room dorm for these kids!” READ FULL STORY »

Chaz Bono on 'Dancing with the Stars' debut: He'll stay away from the message boards!

DWTS

It’s pretty clear how Chaz Bono won’t be spending his evening now that he’s completed his first Cha Cha on Dancing with the Starsvisiting internet chat boards. Bono’s participation invited controversy since he’s the show’s first transgendered contestant.

“It’s a good idea for everyone to stay away from them,” Bono told reporters afterwards. “Message boards generally attract people who want to be mean-spirited.”

Bono and his partner Lacey Schwimmer — who danced at the end of the two-hour premiere – earned a 17 for their first spin under the mirror ball. ”I feel great. I was feeling pretty good when I was doing it,” Bono said. “I was trying to focus on the dance, do a good job, and have fun and I think I  did just that. This has been such a good experience. When I started I was like no matter what I’m going to try to enjoy every minute. Even with the nerves and everything, I just told myself to enjoy the moment.”

The famous child of Sonny and Cher, who was introduced as an author and an activist, said he “appreciated the nice things” the judges said about his footwork but admits it was kind of a blur. His knee injury was also mentioned during the show but Bono admits “nothing is really wrong with it.” (What?!? A reality show making a mountain out of a molehill?).

In fact, Bono appreciates all the intense activity, especially because of what it can do for his midsection.  (During his intro package, he said, “Look at my belly. Isn’t it round and beautiful?”) “I just want to have the best time I can and stay on as long as I can and entertain,” he said afterwards. “If I can lose weight, which I have been, by doing it, that’s awesome.” — With reporting from Carrie Borzillo

Charlie Sheen's Comedy Central Roast: Did it go too far?

It’s been an interesting year for Charlie Sheen. From getting fired from his gig on Two and a Half Men to flooding Twitter with non-sensical ramblings (#winning anyone?), and most recently, appearing on the Emmys to wish his old co-stars good luck, he’s had his share of ups and downs. And tonight, he got called out for them.

Comedians Seth MacFarlane, Jon Lovitz, Jeffrey Ross and Mike Tyson (?), among others, were all on-hand for Sheen’s sometimes brutal Comedy Central roast, which aired shortly after his character’s mock funeral on Two and a Half Men (poetic timing much?).
