Marisa Tomei meets the relatives in 'Who Do You Think You Are' -- EXCLUSIVE

Actress Marisa Tomei will join Martin Sheen and Blair Underwood as participants in NBC’s reality show Who Do You Think You Are, EW has learned exclusively. The third season is expected to premiere early next year.

The show will follow the three actors — like others before them — as they research their family tree and discover unknown relatives. The show is from Executive Producers Lisa Kudrow (Friends) and Dan Bucatinsky (Lipstick Jungle) and is an adaptation of a hit British television documentary series.

The celebrities featured in the second season were Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Rosie O’Donnell, Steve Buscemi, Kim Cattrall, Lionel Richie, Vanessa Williams and Ashley Judd.

More celebrities for season three will be announced at a later date.

    • Allison

        Vote for Paul Ryan!

      • @NOBAMA 2012

No thank you. Paul Ryan is a moron who is a tool for corporations & the extremely rich. He cares nothing about the average American.

BYU does a web series called “The Generations Project” that is basically this show for “normal” people and not celebrities. You can even send in a request to be on the show. It’s produced really well.

Not sure if I can post a link here, but search for “Generations Project” and it should be first at

LOVE this show. Can’t wait to see who else is doing it.

  • Shar

I stumbled upon this show earlier this year and LOVED it. I was surprised that the Lionel Richie season was the 2nd. Who was on the first? As a family history buff, this show is really interesting!!

    • Allie

All I remember from the first season were Sarah Jessica Parker and Spike Lee.

    • KCB

Brooke Shields, Matthew Broderick, and Susan Sarandon were also season 1…

    • kate middleton

And Lisa Kudrow (who produces it).

so they can find people asking them for money?

  • Misspriss_1

I truly enjoy this show also!! It is interesting to watch these people find out where they come from. My own family history is fairly well documented. But, some people really need to dig to find out about their ancestors. I have this show in my dvr, so it picks it up whenever there is a new episode. Good show….

My family really enjoys this show, and it has prompted us to do our own genealogy search.

Hi Stefanie,I’m inspired arealdy! I love your blog and can relate to your journey very well. It’s fabulous that you’re getting out there, performing and competing in competitions (something I get little/no opportunity to do) I can feel the excitement, the adrenaline and the euphoria just from reading your blogs. And I really admire your courage to share your weight-release journey with us all. You’re gorgeous, you obviously dance beautifully and I love how you write with so much soul. I’ll be following your journey and cheering you on from over here in my neck of the woods. You go, girl!

  • Kerri

I got hooked on this show after I caught the very end of Lisa Kudrow’s episode. It is fascinating, and it inspired me to do my own research as well. I’m so glad it’s coming back for another season.

  • Longshanks

The only problem with Scotland is that it’s full of Scots.

Do a segment on Mark Harmon. Classy guy with good roots I bet!

  • Tonia

I really enjoy this show. I have been doing genealogy research on mine and my husbands families for years. Unfortunately, I don’t have the means to fly all over the world to research them in different countries. These celebrities can afford to do this on their own time with their own money. It would be nice it they had a season just for the average american.

Got a mile swim race this weekend and dedceid to do a tempo mile before tabatas. Dumbest idea ever, since my 20 seconds were barely getting me 25 meters. WOD went better:GM’s 2x 95,115,135,135,135PC’s @ 115, rest as Rx’d. Time 8:37. Ring rows destroyed me after swim snafu this morning.

Even though I think that it would be cool for them to pick 1 random member from to be on the show. I wouldn’t reallycare about a whole season of it in the long run. Just look at the apprentice vs. the celebrity apprentice. The ratings for the celebrity one is far better then the regular one.

  • Sally

I want to see the show but I cannot figure our what station it is on in the DC metro area. We have Comcast on demand.
Can I view old episodes on demand? If so how and where?

  • Friendslookup

Wonderful beat ! I would like to apprentice at the same time as you amend your site, how could i subscribe for a blog web site? The account aided me a applicable deal. I were a little bit acquainted of this your broadcast provided vibrant transparent idea

Sarah August 27, 2011 Where did you stay in Costa Rica? It looks beautiful. Andrew and I did an all-inclusive for our hoyonmeon too and it was great. We stayed at Couples in Negril, Jamaica. We loved Jamaican food! Callaloo and jamaican patties and jerk chicken and curried goat and ackee and breadfruit it was all wonderful. We had lobster a couple of times at the resort, but the best lobster we had was when we wandered away down the beach and found these crazy old Jamaican fisherman cooking over a fire on the beach. They served lobster (caught just before cooking) with fresh lime and scotch bonnet peppers. It was amazing. They called it the Office of Nature and I don’t know why, but it worked!
