'Hey Dude' returns to TeenNick, '90s block moves to primetime -- EXCLUSIVE

TeenNick’s ’90s block is just too crazy popular to air at midnight, so the cable net has decided to move it where even more 20-somethings can appreciate a good rerun when they see one. Beginning this Friday, The ’90s Are All That will move up two hours to 10 p.m., where the rotating block of beloved Nick shows will now air seven days a week.

That’s not all: Hey Dude will now have a much-coveted spot in the lineup, alongside All That, Kenan & Kel and Doug. And Stick Stickly — aka the famous popsicle stick from the ’90s — will make a triumphant return to host a new interactive segment called “UPick with Stick.” Every Friday night, Stick (voiced by Paul Christie, who first originated the role for Nick) will highlight ’90s Nickelodeon episodes chosen by viewers via Facebook and www.90sAreAllThat.com.

Still like the idea of watching Kenan and Co. at midnight? Have no fear: TeenNick still plans to replay the block from 12 to 2 a.m.  (At 10, the block will replace back-to-back repeats of Malcolm in the Middle and What I Like About You).

For those who forgot about the goofy conceit behind Hey Dude, here’s a quick reminder: The live-action series was one of Nickelodeon’s first that aired from 1989 to 1991. Shot on location in Tucson, Ariz., the laugher centered on a wacky group of teenagers working at the Bar None western dude ranch and starred David Brisbin (Mr. Ernst), David Lascher (Ted), Christine Taylor (Melody), Kelly Brown (Brad), and Joe Torres (Danny).

TeenNick says The ‘90s Are All That has scored huge gains for the net, posting double-digit increases over last year (50%) among adults 18-34 in the time period. The reruns are a throwback to Nick’s roots in 1991, when it first expanded into original programming with Ren & Stimpy, Doug and Rugrats.

What about “Hey Arnold” :( my favorite!

  • Amanda

It’s kinda sad how happy this made me. “Hippy-ti-yi-ya!”

    • dave

      Hippy-ti-yi-what?

      • eggy

        Like the cowboys say!

      • Michael KM

      • cousin jake

Its a little wild and a little strange

    • Cygnus

Would love to see Alex Mack, Clarissa, Amanda Show added to the lineup. Also would love to see the old You Can’t Do That On Television.

      • Nicole

i have been askin for you can’t do that on television forever! I need to rally some troops to get this awesome show back on TV!!!!!

      • Courtney

I thought Clarissa was supposed to be in the lineup, and Pete & Pete too! What’s up with that? I loved Hey Dude when I was little, it’s the first thing that pops into my head whenever I see Christine Taylor in anything. I watched All That but I’m really not interested in it in my 20s, and I never watched the Amanda Show. Really wish they’d rerun Clarissa though.

      • Jenna

We need to get them to put back on Pete and Pete and Salute Your Shorts as well!!!

      • District 12

Clarissa was in the line up, it has been on for a while

      • Mike

Clarissa was pulled, then it came back this week (they are running the 5th season now in episode order) and then is getting pulled again. What I don’t get is if you watch the credits, they don’t list the guest stars (James Van Der Beek was on earlier this week). That surprises me.

  • Lindsey

Makes me wish I had TeenNick, especially now that it’s primetime!

  • Lia

I wasn’t a big ‘Hey Dude’ fan (though I liked the theme song). I’d prefer Salute Your Shorts and Alex Mack. Hopefully they’ll turn up soon!

    • Louise

      And “Space Cases!!!”

      • Carly

LOVE Space Cases! I second this!

      • Jenny

        Space Cases FTW!!!!

    • Jen

I’m ready for Are You Afraid of the Dark?!!!!

      • ray

They need show some classic episodes of You Cant Do That on Television.

      • Courtney

Seriously, this! I loved Salute Your Shorts, especially camp counselor Ug Lee. Really miss that guy and his sun screen.

      • Carly

I thought for sure Are You afraid of The Dark? would return by October–just in time for Halloween!

    • Ryan

Oh man, how I would love to watch “Salute Your Shorts” again after all these years! Yes please!

  • Laura

Is this Nick thing on like a special channel?!?!?! I can NEVER find it on nickelodeon :( am I looking in all the wrong places?

  • bfett

Was it on this show or “Salute Your Shorts” where the girls fight over who should be cabin head and they wind up in a big pie fight? I can’t remember but I remember seeing it as a kid and I thought it was hilarious. I’ve always wanted to be in a pie fight.

    • Eddy

      Yeah, it was SYS.

    • Jacob

Salute Your Shorts. That particular episode is available on iTunes and is one of choices for shows you can vote for for Friday’s lineup.

    • Steph

Now Salute Your Shorts I could rewatch.

And: Roundhouse! I so loved Roundhouse!

      • SS

        YES!! Roundhouse please!

      • Allison

I always liked “Roundhouse” more than “All That.” And I freakin’ loved, LOVED “Hey Dude.”

  • Heather

I think I need to call my cable company and get this channel asap.

    • D

Since when is Nickelodeon not a standard cable channel? You do realize that “TeenNick”, “Nick at Nite” and all the other things they’ve called it over the years are one and the same, right?

      • Leigha

No, D, they are not. Teen Nick is a completely separate channel from Nickelodeon. There are actually several channels–Nick, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Noggin, and Teen Nick. They took Nick GAS off, sadly.
Nickelodeon is standard cable, but the others usually are not.

  • Mia

AWESOME NEWS!! I’m loving the 90′s are back on Teen Nick!!

  • F

Out of all the Nickcoms, they went with the lamest one? Really?

  • Josh

Oh that’s right! Christine Taylor was in Hey Dude!

  • S.O.

When are they going to add “Ren & Stimpy” back?

  • dusty

Seeing as it is October, I would have expected some Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

  • Amy

I love that the old nick shows being shown on tv but when are they going to put on reruns of Are You Afraid of the Dark???

  • charm

yayy I loved hey dude! I hope they add Double Dare the original from the 80′s never missed a episode as a kid.

  • Q

    Bring back Salute Your Shorts!!!!!

    • aconrad
