It looks like Victoria and the Slutty Pumpkin aren’t the only blasts from How Met Your Mother‘s past that we’ll be seeing this season…

 EW has learned that Chris Elliott, Wayne Brady, Frances Conroy, and Bill Fagerbakke will be returning for the Oct. 24 episode, titled “Noretta.” Elliott will reprise his role as Lily’s estranged father, Mickey, while Conroy and Brady will reprise their roles as Barney’s mother and brother (just as I’d hoped!). Most interestingly, Marshall’s deceased father, played by Fagerbakke, is also scheduled to appear in the episode — although it is not immediately clear in what capacity he will return.
This sounds like quite the family affair, readers! Theories/guesses on what brings them all together?

Really? Hasn’t the life already been beaten out of the death of Marshall’s dad? Now we have to deal with recurring ghost dad?
@Karate Pants: Thank you. If I wanted to cry over a lame character and his dad week after week, I’d watch Party Of Five. Time to pull the plug on How I Met Your Mother.
With a show that constantly messes with timelines and shows flashbacks and flashforwards both large and small, it amazes me that people wouldn’t just expect Marshall’s father to return in the form of a flashback.
Shelf your amazement. I’m just in favor of letting Marshall’s dad rest undisturbed for awhile and getting back to the equally interesting and worthy personal story lines of the other characters.
THANK you. Lily’s dad returning? Barney’s family MINUS his dad? This show has always been surprisingly heavy on ‘daddy issues’, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Lily nad her father have an arguement and it causes Marshall to reminisce…it’s ridiculous how nagry people are getting about this.
I’m guessing Marvin will be back in a flashback, like Marshall remembering advice he’d given him. Nora will probably be meeting some of Barney’s family, and I’m guessing that Lily’s dad will be there in some way related to her pregnancy.
I’m sure it is a flash back, the show has had a ton of flashbacks that have dealt with his dad before. Lighten up people.
Yeah, I think it’s quite realistic that they keep revisiting that. I mean, Marshall and Marvin were very close, and now that Marshall’s to be a father himself, it’s only natural that he is thinking about his own dad a lot.

Isn’t Barney’s mom’s name Loretta? So I assume in this episode Nora is meeting the family? That’d be super serious… and it would explain the other parents- having flashbacks to when Marshall and Lily introduced each other to their families…

I heard the surprise ending of this show is that ted is talking to a bunch of cabbage patch kid dolls telling them how he met their `mommy`. then his friends come in with a new box of depends for him. the end.

The episode is about how much the gang’s significant others remind them of their parents, so Marvin will probably be seen in a flashback. I miss him! Can we please get to the Barney/Robin stuff again? Nora needs to go!
